What happened to Caston? I thought they would give SCUM a little bit more than that! But 470 rushing yards for Culver! Wow. A little disappointed in their defense though.
Should be a couple of pretty good games next week.
Culver’s defense still struggles against pass but is improving. SN figured out early they could not run up the middle against Culver’s line and unleashed the quarterback to scramble and wing the ball around. He was impressive at times, but had 3 turnovers (2 picks and a fumble)

South Newton would probably have 1 win if they played Culver's full schedule.
MWC is bad. Caston would have won it this year and maybe even last year.
You were right. Culver ran the ball at will on SN. Their quarterback was impressive with his scrambling and threw a nice ball, But the Rebels defense couldn’t get off the field. Was a running clock for most of 2nd half

So saddened to hear of this. My condolences to the Fairchild family and Triton Community

No time like the present to start talking about the season getting started.
Here is the Week #1 Schedule
There are two HNAC games to open the season while everyone else is playing non-conference opposition:
So, Who Ya Got?
Friday Aug. 20
LaVille at Bremen
Lewis Cass at Pioneer
NJSP at Culver Community
South Central (UM) at Triton
West Central at Caston
Winamac at Knox* (HNAC)
As always, the game is better
from_the_sidelines007
Laville over Bremen - should be a good game. Laville has some good young athletes who are starting to come of age so will give them the edge
Lewis Cass over Pioneer - Will likely take a game or two for Panthers to adjust to loss of Lewellens and linebacker (forgot name). Don’t know much about Cass though, so could be off here?
NJSP over Culver - I expect this to be a physical game. NJSP has won the last 4 over Culver, all in pretty close games. NJSPs speed gives them a slight edge here, but hope I am wrong
Triton over South Central - Satellites lost a lot and Triton returns a solid nucleus of talent. Like Trojans pretty comfortably here
Caston over West Central - Comets have some strong athletes and their numbers are improving
Winamac over Knox - Winamac didn’t lose a lot on either side of the ball. Their defense is strong and gives them an edge here
-
Pioneer should be favored until they lose a conference game. I expect it will happen next season though. Hard to replace the speed the twins brought

FINAL: Knox-14 NJSP-0
Nice win for Knox. I didn’t see them shutting down the Jays offense with all the weapons they have

Pioneer is damn good. I could see Knox losing 2 conference games 🙂
Don’t count NJSP out. Culver has played both, so have seen them and think Jays will get by Knox tonight

Cavs vs Blue Jays in HNAC sectional. Should be a good one!

There’s a lot of noise on here, I t can’t be the play calling that’s holding them back! Ha. I just know that with this freshman group they have, they better get it straightened out. To much potential there to mess up 3 more years!
Culver played the current freshman the last year as 8th graders. At the end of the game, they threw a big picnic party and asked the Culver team to join them. When we asked why, they said it was celebrating that no one scored a point on them the whole season. Definitely a lot of potential there for the Lancers and would expect them to flip the standings on Pioneer in next 2 yrs. if not, it is hard to argue they are not underachieving

@AubbeenaubeeCav anything going on Friday at the Culver/Pioneer game? Senior night or homecoming? Curious as to if there will be any food options other than concession stand food lol.
It is Senior night. Wouldn’t be wise to play the Panthers for homecoming! That was Triton.
I am not aware of any food being served at game this week. Good food choices in town are Lakehouse, Papas, or Cafe Max. Also have a New Mexican restaurant (Freidas) on St Rd 10 that is good and a little easier on the wallet

Great opportunity to recognize this young man. From the Culver side, I have seen him on the Caston sideline for 4 yrs now with a Caston flag flying from his wheelchair. I’m sure he has been a great inspiration to them and worthy of recognition as part of the team as they have struggled for wins

First time I can remember Culver having more on roster than Winamac.

What were they being called out on exactly? You don't want the score run up? Play better defense. You don't want shutout, play better offense. It's not Pioneer's coaches job to worry about your feelings. Their job is to put their people into the best possible position to be successful, both in life and on the field. Part of that is setting goals. If their players have goals that you don't want them to achieve, then try and stop them. It's really that simple.
I really have a hard time understanding how their attempting to set records is so offensive. Why do they keep the records for if not to give teams something to shoot for?
I agree teams need to come prepared to play. I do think part of the high school gig involves teaching the kids good sportsmanship though. I’m not familiar with the situation Warrior is referring to with Pioneer football, but do know their baseball coach put up over 50 runs vs West Central a few years back. From what I heard, the AD did the right thing in that instance and it didn’t end well for the coach

Challenge accepted. Maybe not, but it's always good to see new blood down there...
Triton lost 60-0 to Pioneer this weekend in a game stopped at half. Not looking good for state title chances

Winamac played hard, but had a lot of costly penalties. They actually stopped Culver’s offense as well as anyone has this year. Culver stopped themselves against Knox with turnovers

Culver at Winamac postponed to 1 pm Saturday. Cavs up 14-6

According to Hudl. Culver through 5 games actually gives up more passing yards per game this year then last.
Im sure their pass defense has improved a lot but Judson, SC and WC aren't really threats to throw. Knox threw for almost 180 and Triton threw for over 200.
It'll be interesting to see! Weather is gonna play a factor for both teams!
Weather should favor Culver’s ground and pound if they can hold onto ball. Doesn’t sound like it will be conducive to a lot of passing but we’ll see.
Culver has 6 picks over last 3 games, so while Knox And Triton moved the ball through the air some, Culver secondary was more successful in stopping them from scoring than in the past
-
North White - 21-14
Culver 35-28
Laville 28-24
Pioneer - 56 - 0
NKSP - 49 - 14

I like Winamac's chances if they pass early on. Culver will dominate offensively, but Culver's pass D is horrendous. It seems Winamac is starting to click in their passing game. Should be an interesting game.
While I can’t disagree Culver’s secondary has struggled, they have shown big improvement in the Knox and Triton games. Hopefully your criticism is just the chalkboard material they need to keep improving down the stretch

I wasn't at the game. Doesn't appear that it went very well. 3 picks I think. Couldn't stop the wishbone. Our line is definitely a work in process with a couple of freshmen starting. Hot much experience there across the front.
Triton QB made some good throws, he was off at times and had 3 picks. One of these was at goal line when the were trying to capitalize on a Culver fumble. Culver secondary has come along way on pass defense since opening game

I don't see Triton stopping Culver's run game but im not so sure Culver can stop Triton's pass game.
North Judson scored twice on Culver via Air and capitalized on some turnovers...Triton does that. They got a shot. I dont think theres much of a diff 4-7 in the HNAC.
If Culver has Lautt back, I see their line and big backs controlling the game. Culver has moved the ball consistently against everyone, but self destructed at times with turnovers. Their pass defense is improving with Sullivan’s return, but still vulnerable. In the end, I see them pulling this one out on Homecoming night
-
Bremen - this one could go either way as both teams are down from last year
Culver - WC has some speedy backs if they can ever get the ball from the Cavs. Culver’s physicality wins a close one
Knox - won’t be as close as most on here think
Pioneer - credit to the Caston kids for keeping the program going, but this one will be lopsided
Laville - Lancers will take out some frustration from last week on the Warriors.

Congrats to the Jays. Didn’t see them winning against the Warriors, especially by such a large margin.
Culver executed their game plan to control the ball against SC in sloppy conditions. Rained pretty hard the whole game, which made it tough to do much but run up the middle. Defense stepped up with big games from Reno and Alex Zehner, and Ben Lee. They will need to continue to improve to stop a strong Bluejays team next week.
