if you get up my way early enough, tremendous food opportunities throughout the city, but especially downtown area

Live in CP since 2004, but been teaching and coaching in Rensselaer for 21 years

Got some great suggestions on the game thread here and been doing some searching. Really enjoy Big Frank’s Sausage in East Chicago, but don’t think I’ll drive the extra 45 minutes this time. Excited to have some time to check out more of CP for a day. Hearing game is expected to sell out per Westfield Twitter.

They simply cannot compete annually with the other six HCC schools due to the gap in socioeconomics.

You name the sport.  Avon and FC are in the bottom half of the conference if not 7th-8th in EVERYTHING.

Avon places it’s priorities in the arts, FC has joined the athletics arm race but is too far behind.

Westfield grad. Out of curiosity, is there that much of a socioeconomic gap between Avon and Brownsburg? Just find it interesting to compare FC and Avon rather than Avon to its county rival. Used to do some work in Avon and found the area as far as restaurants and stores, etc. just as nice as Brownsburg.

Always a great couple days of football regardless of who is playing.

Funny they would come out with this when up until today their site had said “schedule to be determined following semi states”. Guess they’ll never do the geography based state finals scheduling like had been previously discussed? Would have been cool if GS, MD and Memorial all got to play same day to make it even more worth the drive for Evansville area fans. On the other hand it does make crowds filing in and out of their section easier when it is, for example 4A giving way to 6A fans in terms of numbers, as opposed to Westfield fans potentially waiting on Zionsville fans to all clear out.

A few days before the game, I remember listening to 1070 The Fan and hearing it discussed that it would probably be the quickest state title game ever with the way both teams liked to run the ball. Lol.

I went into that game thinking we’d probably lose based on what I’d seen of Westfield. That miracle play we made at the end of the first half made the score closer than it should’ve been. You guys had the stronger team. I never like losing but I didn’t mind losing to your Shamrocks.

When we went to the 4A state title game in 2013, I was pulling for Westfield to beat Cathedral in the 5A title game. The result was all too similar to our first four match-ups with Cathedral so I sympathized for you that you weren’t able to get your first state title. So when Westfield beat us in 2016, I remembered 2013 and was happy for you. No shame in losing to a deserving team, especially when it was their first state football title.

Haha definitely not the prettiest game for quarterbacks! But always liked East as well, my uncle is good friends with Coach Chitty. 2013 was great to see East take down Dwenger, that was my senior year (wasn’t a football player, played lacrosse and soccer) but went in with now looking back blind ignorance and hope of hanging with McLaurin and Cathedral. But Coach Gilbert followed through on telling that senior class they’d be at LOS their final season; and look what he’s built now. Had him as my Government teacher, absolutely great guy. Hope they name the field after him when he decides to hang it up.

  5. 2016 Semistate- Thunderstorms and rain delayed games all over state that night, Westfield gets down 10-0 to defending state champ Snider, but scored right before half to tie it up (perfectly thrown ball somehow with how wet it was all night, and only completion of the whole game) and wins 23-17 mainly due to special teams, Will Harrison hit a 53 yarder that would have been good from 60, and a 60+ yard punt if my math is right to put Snider at their own 9 to start final drive.

2016 5A State Finals- Westfield finally gets a football state title, beating Columbus East 16-13, seemed like 80% of the town was at LOS that night. Defense and reliable kicker that carried Westfield all year come through and shut out Columbus East second half.

4 years of college / living in Cincy and never developed a taste for it , id eat ANY chain or frozen pizza before touching LaRosa's . Same goes for Skyline in the Chili department . The Pit is an amazing place to watch a FB game on Friday if your going to the St. X game better take a half day from work to get in line in time to get a ticket and be prepared for standing room only.

Just moved to cincy this fall but been to the Pit multiple times with a college buddy who went to Elder. Skyline is either or love it or hate it, I’m hooked on it but what’s really better is the local ma and pa chili parlors around the city. If you ever get back to Elder, check out Price Hill Chili! The St. X game is one reason why I don’t fully hate online presale, game is at X this year so I am glad to be able to buy online.

  7. Definitely have to go with Linton ribeyes, or if you ever get to Sheridan, you’ll smell the Bud Burgers on the grill from the parking lot. Best high school concession stand I’ve seen period is at Cincinnati Elder, The Pit, they’ve got goetta dogs and hot metts cooking up, and also a LaRosa’s pizza truck parked selling by the slice. Not to mention the coolest high school stadium I’ve ever seen; highly recommend making the drive when one of the Indy Catholics is playing there, or against one of their GCL South rivals (St. X, Moeller, La Salle).

Strongly urge the admin to take down this thread.

Bad precedent to set on opening night.

We should never reinforce any potential link between high school sports and gambling.  Its just plain wrong.

Hypothetical spreads ain’t hurting any high school kids.  I would bet big money Coach Peebles and Eric Moore don’t go into team meetings warning their players off this site.
Hell the books in Vegas put a line on Massillon Washington-Canton McKinley every year and there’s not many bigger rivalries than that.  Nothing is ruined in that game from a simple point spread.

Didn’t mean 2 replies, bad reception. All in fun though with these lines. Interesting to see someone else’s perception of Region games.

As far as links of gambling you might want to raise issues with Vegas books as they put a line on the Massillon Washington-Canton McKinley game every year and no controversy from that ruining their rivalry in NE Ohio.

I have my early season schedule set but have a problem on one date that I could use some help with.   Here is my current schedule with associated dining options:

August 20 - Dublin (OH) Coffman @ Warsaw      (Noa Noa)

    August 27 - Detroit (MI) M.L. King @ Carmel

September 3 - Chicago (IL) St. Rita @ Louisville (KY) Trinity      (Momma's Mustard, Pickles and BBQ)

September 10 - Cincinnati (OH) St. Xavier @ Mishawaka Penn      (The Chubby Trout)

September 17 - Lafayette Jeff @ Kokomo     (Poulard's Cajun Cusine)

The problem is that usually we hit Mudbugs in Carmel for a game there but they have closed.    I need some ideas for somewhere in the Carmel area that is inexpensive, good and fast.    All suggestions are appreciated.

Fat Dan’s has a Carmel location 4 minutes from the school. Smoked dry rub wings and cold beer. Can’t go wrong.
