    Yep ... tackle.

I don't know if a team can compete post-season in both under IHSAA.  For the most part, it almost seems like it would create a major imbalance of teams between 1A/2A size and 5A/6A as 8-man almost seems to be a classification in and off itself ... i.e., small 1A or sub-1A.  So far, the teams in 8-man are all 1A-sized schools and there's only a single class of 8-man.  It would almost seem that a team that could afford to have both 11-man and 8-man teams would be in a resource-rich environment with bodies and that's likely to be 4A/5A/6A size schools.  I guess you could potentially see a 1A/2A/3A school that might opt for 11-man varsity and turn their JV into an 8-man, but I think that would be less advantageous in the long-run.

This has been discussed a lot in our area and makes a ton of sense given the way roster sizes have gone in recent years.  I struggle to see anyone above 1A doing this, but I suppose they could if they had to.  11 man JV would definitely be preferable, but 8 man JV is better than no JV; you are still giving those athletes a chance to develop against competition that is similar to themselves rather than throwing them "into the fire" as a sophomore with no intermediate experience between Jr. high and Varsity ball.

Wondering about Chris Creighton at Eastern Michigan?  Before he took the program over, EMU was a doormat in the MAC. Being a former Wabash coach, he may have some ties to the Hoosier State.

Another possibility?? Curt Cignetti has built a super strong program at James Madison, moving them from FCS to FBS.

There would be a bit of irony here in that Allen coached under Creighton for one season years ago when Creighton was at Wabash.  I believe Allen was the DBs Coach/ST Coordinator during the 2007 season.  Both great guys; I hate that it hasn't worked out for Tom, but would love to see CC get an opportunity at a P5 school.

Not to hijack this thread - but the title of it reminded me that we are almost to my "favorite" (SARCASM) part of the football season - the PLAY TO THUD/QUICK WHISTLE portion of the summer with these 11X11 scrimmages or whatever you want to call them

Some annoyances to try and avoid for you new coaches - or advice for coaches that just don't get it:

    1. This is NOT the Super Bowl

    2. Your actions (Coaches) a lot of times will "fuel" the problems that will arise in the scrimmage. (Hooting/hollering, chest-bumping, etc...)

    3. Football is already a combative and emotional sport, don't egg it on by inappropriate actions - AND, if you have a player taking it over the edge, remove him/her until they understand no trophies are handed out in June/July

    4. As you can probably tell, I DESPISE these things cause I don't really think football can be played at THUD level...someone (either an RB lowering his shoulder) or a safety running full speed downhill will start it...then the next play someone else has to get it back, and on and on.

    - That said, I know they are not going away - so here is to hoping everyone stays healthy and understands the purpose of these things.

    Amen brother.

They have plenty of members to stay pat if they like for sure.  cant remember what happened before, but maybe they go back for South Vermillion again???

I would struggle to see SV wanting to go back to that well. My understanding "through the grapevine" so to speak was that they regretted leaving the WRC in the first place and it was a bit of a struggle to get back in (the Parke Heritage consolidation helped that along immensely). Maybe they would want to go back at this point, but it would suprise me.

  5. Reading the NP post again, I think I misread it initially.  I initially had read it as they (NP) were joining the 5 former SAC schools at the high school level and that because of that the youth leagues were joining together.  On second read, that does not appear to be the case.  Still, it seems interesting that the post is apparently no longer posted on whichever account it originated from.  Still, my apologies.  The only excuse I can offer is that I had not yet had my coffee when I made that initial post so my brain was not operating at peak efficiency.

Speculation on the 6th team - where do they go to find someone else?

Greencastle?  North and/or South Putnam?  Seeger?  It would be interesting to know who is on their radar.

Seeger would make no sense geographically, if that even matters. It's almost an hours drive to the closest of the five former SAC schools. The three Putnam County schools make the most sense for an eventual eight team conference down the road, so coupled with the quoted post below, I would definitely say one of those three, though I don't know as much about the WIC.

Not sure if this is reading into something but here is this

FROM THE NORTH PUTNAM YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE:

Good Afternoon Cougar Nation!!!! Just wanted to drop in with some very important and exciting news about our upcoming youth football season! Our board recently has sat down with each other several times, along with board members from NorthMont, SouthMont, Crawfordsville, and Western Boone, and our North Putnam board has voted to leave the West Central league. With that being said the new league being formed has voted and APPROVED us to join with them! So we will now officially be joining with Northmont, Southmont, Crawfordsville, and Western Boone beginning this upcoming FALL 2023!!! This is going to be so much easier and better for our community and our youth players and parents. We will adapt to the new league and their new age groups as well, starting now with our ROOKIES team now being a FLAG ONLY K-1st grade team, our Minors will now be 2-3rd graders and tackle, and our Majors 4-5th graders and tackle, and now our 6th grade boys and girls will be a solo team and tackle as well. We will need your help COUGAR NATION  spreading the word as we try to venture into flag again, and  to get as many as we can to sign up at all ages. We also will be doing online sign-ups again, that will begin here very soon, and I will update on here with all that information. I will have flyers going out to all the schools to let you know more information and also more important dates, and I will be getting those out before the end of the school year. Feel free to let us know any questions you may have, and we will respond as soon as we can. Thank you and we look forward to this huge step in our program and our community!! GO COUGARS!!!!!!

Is this from Facebook? And if it is, is it still posted? I ask because this statement reads as if written by someone who is in the know but taken with the corresponding silence from North Putnam maybe wasn't supposed to let the cat out of the bag yet.

Regardless, North Putnam does make the most sense as the sixth team and with the new league not starting until 2026-2027, that g8ves plenty of time to bring the other two Putnam County schools on board. The question remains: what do Lebanon, Tri-West, and Danville do? There are plenty of  options I think for each, but what I can't figure out is why would they want to keep the Sagamore Conference name intact? If those three were each targeting separate or a joint move to other existing conferences, why are the othere five leaving of their own accord? Seems like this is simple one of many dominoes in West Central Indiana.

  7. Everyone is going to focus on the call at the end of the game, which is fine (though it was the correct call), but I have a different bone entirely to pick.  @Bobref and our other fine official friends, is the so called "Double Cheek" QB sneak play not illegal in that it appears that the entire Philly offensive line is well into the neutral zone?  I admittedly like the concept, and if pushing the QB forward is now perfectly legal am all for it, but the alignment of the interior OL makes my head explode.

Today Chris Ballard confessed that the Colts problems are "all on him."  And I agree wholeheartedly!  He shouldn't be around for it to be on him any longer!

Count me in the camp that honestly thinks the biggest issue with the Colts right now is that Irsay is way too involved and should let Ballard do his job.  The QB issues over the past two seasons (getting rid of Wentz, which I think was a mistake, and benching Ryan, which was definitely a mistake) were direct Irsay decisions.  Neither was the long term solution, but Irsay stepping definitely made things worse.  Ballard may not be the guy, but Irsay's meddling has made it impossible to definitively say that.

Edit: and for the record, I really like Irsay generally as an owner, I just really hate how he has handled this situation.

Honestly, I could get behind Harbaugh as the HC, but I look forward to the day where we go more than one season without some kind of Andrew Luck related rumor.

Can listen but can't watch. This sucks

I actually do not mind that they are charging for the streaming, in this day and age that makes all the sense. What I can't quite figure out is that somehow I was able to watch all of last week's games for free. If you are going to charge, charge for the whole tournament, if you're not, then don't. Just not sure why the line is the Regional = free, Semi-state = pay, that's all...

At this point, there are only two conceivable outcomes: either A) Saturday provides a fresh voice and sparks some life into this roster or B) Saturday's hire causes toxic division within the coaching staff and locker room and the season tailspins into a death spiral leading to a complete reconfiguration of the front office, coaching staff, and roster.  I am hoping against hope for option A, but my gut says we are looking at option B.

I'm not ready to completely get my heart broken, but today sure didn't look like outcome B.
