CIC Football New Season 2019

Recommended Posts

I dont see anyone competing with these two. Only question with Eastbrook is can they replace all that they lost, and with Mississinewa the big question is who will play QB. Mississinewa has been really good at that position over the last 5-6 years i believe. Did the McCoin kid go to play anywhere after HS, also what did the Skeens kid do? Did either of them get many looks for Football? They were both great HS players i thought.

That is the question that gets asked at the beginning of every season.  I believe that their record indicates that in the past they usually don't have a problem reloading.  With the feeder system they have in place and the top notch coaching staff, they seem to know what they are doing.

Hope to see participation on this site come back.

  • will Eastbrook and Mississnewa continue to dominate?
  • who starts with good numbers? Class Numbers?

I guess the better question these days is will anyone OTHER THAN Eastbrook or Ole Miss ever win the CIC again?  Blackford might have a shot at finishing in 2nd soon though.  I wouldn't be surprised if the CIC has a few new arrivals and departures in the next 3 years with the widening gaps in size and talent between the top 4 and the bottom 4, at least on the football side of the house.

I'm trying to get some info on 1st day at Blackford. I assume we have a good group of seniors  but I'm very concerned about numbers at the other 3 grade levels.

feeder system having big numbers problems. A couple of lowers classes were barely able to field a team.

Blackford becomes a Jr./Sr. High School for the 1st time as the 7th and 8th graders move into the building. A nice new Jr. High gym and a weight room has been added onto the Southside of the building. I assume the change of culture will have some effect on the athletic program.

i agree that Eastbrook and Mississnewa are likely to dominate again. Eastbrook is now in the same sectional as the Bruins so they may face each other twice this year.

Agreed, if it was just football it would have already happened. would not be surprised if Ole Miss would be the first one to jump ship.

Skeens is going to play football at Wabash College.  Not sure if he is going to be moving to wideout or to DB.  He did play as a wideout in the North/South All Star game.  McCoin was recruited to play football but chose to play baseball at Indiana Tech.  He will be a sophomore at Indiana Tech this fall.

Eastbrook has the philosophy of "we don't rebuild we reload" and it has worked very well.  They lost a lot yes, but they return a lot as well.  Some will change position or even play more at one of the positions they played last year.  They will still be strong and fast.  May not be as big as last year up front but will still have some size.

Mississinewa will be huge up front this year compared to the last couple of years.  They may be as big up front as the 2017 team when 3 or 4 the lineman were right at or over 300lbs.  They return both Campbell boys that have speed.  The QB position will be the tough spot to fill and may be QB by situation and opponent.  They may be more of a running team this year than the last two again depending on the QB.  Funk returns at LB where he was underclassman All State last year.  Cade Campbell and Funk both have the potential to be All State this year.  Ole Miss has around 13 or 14 Seniors and many of them this will be their 3rd year of Varsity playing time.  Mississinewa also is getting into the philosophy "reload not rebuild."

Oak Hill returns some players but also will have some new faces in the lineup.  They have holes to fill and may be the sleeper in the conference.

Blackford will be the team in the CIC that will challenge both Mississinewa and Eastbrook for the CIC title.  With the Mississinewa/Eastbrook game being early in the season Blackford could be playing for at least a share CIC Championship when they play Mississinewa the final game of the season.  Coach Sehy is showing what he can do.  He started MG in the right direction and left for Marion but the Marion politics didn't agree with the way he was doing things.  The kids are buying into his system and it shows.  Blackford will not be the "pushover easy win" like Mississinewa and Eastbrook have been used to.  Blackford may take both teams to the wire to decide the winner.

Madison Grant hopefully the numbers are up from last year so players can get a break during the game.  Being the lone 1A team in the conference they will struggle against everybody purely because of the depth of the other teams in the CIC.  However, because of the CIC play they will be prepared for the post-season so they will probably finish towards the bottom of the conference but should experience post-season success.

Elwood has another new coach.  This makes their 3rd coach in less than 4 years.  They will struggle again this year and may not win a game as they rebuild under the new coach that was recently hired.  Just have to wonder what type of summer program they had this year?

Alexandria could be another spoiler in the conference and surprise some teams.  They have had talent that hasn't produced consistently but when they do produce they have been a dangerous team to play.

Frankton will be there with MG and Elwood.   They are still trying to figure things out.  The days of the Statue of Liberty 20 times a game are gone and the younger kids are slowly forgetting about it.  Once they get things in line they could be a team that will give the top teams a run for part of the game.  They are still a few years out from competing an entire game with Mississinewa, Blackford, and Eastbrook.

Real question is should be with MG dropping to 1A how much longer will they stay in the CIC?  Blackford almost left the CIC a couple of years ago and joined another conference with Jay County and Southern Wells until Jay County backed out.  Is Blackford still looking to leave the CIC?  Mississinewa being the lone 4A and still growing how much longer will they stay in the CIC seeing how they are having success in the CIC in all sports.  Eastbrook wants to keep Mississinewa on the schedule no matter what so if Mississinewa leaves will they follow with them?  If a school leaves the CIC who would be the replacement school?  Lapel? Marion? Western? Eastern? Kokomo-Taylor?

I agree with everyone's assessment of the CIC this year.  My spoiler team would be Oak Hill.  Coach O always seems to find a way to compete.

On the Frankton home front they had 54 at day one practice.  Some new faces are coming out.  Most they have had out in over 12 years.  I just hope they have the fire to compete.

Hopefully with these types of numbers Frankton might be able to go 2 platoon, something that Mississinewa hasn't been able to do.  Being able to give kids breaks during the games reduces injuries and pays off in the end.

Blackford has about 40 players. Early practice is going well from what I'm hearing. It helps when you have a nice 12tg grade class.

it will be interesting if younger kids step up when Jr. High starts next Monday.

Bruins scrimmage South Adams. 1st game is now Monroe Central as we are not playing Jay Co. this year.

The Starfires have a very solid 1A program, that should help test the Bruins in the scrimmage and Monroe Central is probably a tougher game than Jay County would be.  Jay Co and Blackford are by far the best teams in their respective counties : )

Win or lose, Eastbrook will be better off for challenging themselves against a good 4A program early in the season.  It might be baptism by fire for some of the younger talent stepping up to varsity level for their first game but they'll know immediately where they stack up against a top team and what areas they need to improve in.  Looking forward to seeing them compete in this game.

With the new Sectional alignment, I will be even more interested in the CIC. My Blue Devils open with Madison-Grant and Elwood per usual but we also now in the same Sectional with Eastbrook, Blackford, Alexandria and Frankton.

Weak opening two games will not do anything to help Tipton later an in the year. It will be a good test for MG to see what if any improvements have been made sense last year. If I were Tipton I would look to strengthen those early games before conference play. Could we be looking at a future return to the CIC for the Blue Devils?

Tipton and Lapel added, MG and Ole Miss subtracted from the CIC?  That makes sense to me but only if Tipton would ever consider leaving the HC.  I could also see where the 4 Madison County CIC schools (Frankton, Elwood, Alexandria and MG ((although MG is technically located in Grant County)) team up with Lapel and possibly a few other schools to make a whole new conference.

HH at Eastbrook will be a quality scrimmage for both teams.

New Haven was not good last year. i think Marion is the real deal and will beat Eastbrook by at least 2 TDs.

Marion graduated almost all of their defensive starters.  They will be good and have a high power offense.  Will be a good test for Eastbrook.  Next year Marion opens against Eastbrook and then plays Mississinewa in week 2.

Preseason IFCA poll has Marion as #1 in 4A and Mississinewa as #9 in 4A.  It is interesting that both teams received 1 vote each for #1.  Eastbrook is #2 in 2A.

Tipton will probably never drop Elwood since they are our oldest rivalry. I have always said that I wish we played Kokomo as our other non conference game and it was talked about for a few years but never happened. I don’t mind playing MG though.  The Hoosier conference is really tough so no need to load up your non conference schedule. This year will be good playing MG and Elwood with such a young, inexperienced team. We will be starting mostly Sophomores and Juniors. Next year with an experienced team, it would be nice to play someone such as Kokomo right off the bat. Also Tipton will not be going back to the CIC. If they ever leave the Hoosier, it will be to create another conference along with the Hoosier East teams(Cass, Western, Northwestern and Hamilton Heights).

I don't see the Madison County schools (+MG) in the CIC ever splitting...I don't see other schools wanting to join them either.  They seem to be the weak link in the CIC.  Hope their fortunes change this upcoming season...

Everyone thinks that there is something wrong with the CIC and it needs all of this restructuring around football season.  I guess the fact that Alexandria just won a state title in baseball or the success of the other sports, along with all of the girls sports means nothing.  The CIC is very competitive as a conference across the board!!  Not to mention that my Tigers might just surprise some people on the gridiron this year.  In the future, I could see MG closing and splitting students between Alexandria, Elwood, Ole Miss, and Oak Hill.  Crazy that Madison Grant is the biggest school district in the state (area wise) and it only has 1A numbers.  It’s possible!

1a. Ole miss

Between them and Eastbrook who wins? I believe it comes down to coaching. Teams are equal in talent! Will be the weakest t eww am they have had in awhile.

1b. Eastbrook

Same as above. Same talent will come down to coaching! Will be interesting to see what coach uses for talent.

3a. Alexandria

Team has underachieved for the last 3 years. To much talent to have a 4-7 season last year. Time to shit or get off the pot! I believe alex has more talent than blackford.  Time will tell!

3b. Blackford

Blackford and Alexandria both have major potential! I feel Alexandria has the edge due to Blackford running a gimmick offense we will see. But blackford has edge in coaching!

5. Oak hill

Don't let the #5 fool you they have lost alot but are well coached! Also have a chance at #3 although i believe a tad weaker than Alek and Blackford.

6. Frankton

Same coach but lost their best talent last year. Team has redone their offense will take a year to get it right. Not much following this class. Stole a win or 2 last year!

7. Elwood

Unless things outside of football controlled decision coach should of not been fired. This school is in disarray! Pay your assistants and bring in talent and not buddies. Not enough talent in senior or junior class! Will be a 4-5 year process!

8. Madison grant

2 best players are gone and played above their skill level last year. Seniors are not very good and juniors are not very good. Time will tell if coach can motivate and find more players!
