Lest we never forget the very politically correct Wabash Apaches!  With that, other PC losers have to go out to the Anderson,Lake Central, Missisnewa, Portage, South Bend St. Joseph's Indians, and no, you're not immune Brebeuf Braves and Calumet Warriors...or even you, South Newton Rebels...

Clay City Eels.

We can’t forget that school consolidation robbed us of the Mecca Arabs!

My Alma Mater Madison Grant Argylls. Before consolidation it was the Summitville Goblins, and the Fairmount Quakers. Always thought about the irony of the fighting Quakers

Hobart Brickies

Jimtown Jimmies

Warren Central was originally called the Owls before changing over to the Warriors.

Not a football school, but Borden used to be called the Berries, because of all the strawberry farms in the area.

Sometime in the 60's, they changed to the Braves.   PC concerns might have them go back to the Berrries.

And don't forget....the Dubois Jeeps.

Clay City Eels.

South Spencer Rebels with Confederate Gray, Blue, Red, and White. Yes, I believe a few Confederate battles or skirmishes occurred in Spencer (then Warrick I believe) County.

Vincennes Alices is also a good one.

Bedford Stonecutters was great before consolidating into the BNL Stars.

Shawswick Farmers also consolidated into BNL as did the Needmore Hilltoppers

Bedford & Shawswick Middle Schools still carry on those nicknames as does Needmore Elementary

Yep.  Maconaquah Braves as well....

Please explain how my high school Alma Mater is a 'PC loser'.  The moniker "Braves" is about a generic a term as you can get, it doesn't indicate a specific Indian tribe or region.

Guess it would be better to use a super-generic mascot name like Tigers, Bulldogs, Panthers, etc.   *yawn*

Also I bet few here on the GID actually know what the word Maconaquah refers to, but I'm sure the internet search engine warriors will fill us in.

Does it mean Government School built due to a large Government prescence located on a large tract of Government-owned land?

Yes, among others.  Much like the generic "Hamilton Heights" government school corporation.

Not at all like Hamilton Heights. No large government installations existed nor exist today in the Hamilton Heights district, and no new school was constructed as a result of the consolidation. It used existing buildings. The ones leftover that weren't used were sold on the free market to individuals.

It was partially a joke, don’t be so sensitive.  Sorry I hurt your feelings...

Your socialist jealousy is showing again, Gonzo.   Go talk to the DoD about that.

So are stating that their have been zero additions, renovations, etc. to what was originally the Jackson Central H.S. building,  and that this building was also the original Arcadia High School building?

I’m not jealous, I’m a public school supporter. I’m not the one coming to the defense of 1 public school while calling for the demise of all public schools.

Meaning:  you have no rational response.  I get it.

Moreover, I just don't care about your thoughts as this was meant as fun and you took it to another level.  The only rational thing I can do is take the ball and go home.

I can come to the defense of a PC argument regarding my alma mater.  Unlike you my views on government have evolved and changed since I matriculated from said institution.

And you never answered my questions concerning the current HH high school building.  Telling................

The current HH high school building was built more than 30 years after the Jackson Central/Walnut Grove consolidation, and more than 50 years after Jackson Central was formed from Cicero, Arcadia, and Atlanta.

I don’t remember a controversy over the naming of either school nor any controversy over their nicknames. Who can complain about the nickname Eagles? It’s very patriotic.

Any SW Indiana fans know the meaning behind Alices for Vincennes? I'm a big fan of nicknames that hold meaning to an area.

Speedway Sparkplugs (Pretty Obvious)

Whiting Oilers (massive Oil Refinery on Lake Michigan in Whiting)

Hobart Brickies (I've heard there used to be a large brickyard in Hobart)

Floyd Central Highlanders (I'm guessing it has to do with being on high ground overlooking the Ohio River and Kentucky

Noblesville Millers (Old Mill plant in Noblesville)

LaPorte Slicers (Meat Slicing Manufacturer)

We at Whiting do have a large oil refinery but that is not the source of our mascot.  Our mascot actually came from the railroad.  Railroad tracks surround Whiting and apparently large dudes called "Oilers" used to oil up the wheels of trains as they were stopped in Whiting.  That's why our mascot is an oil can.

The more you know... 😄

How was the generic name "Huskies" chosen?
