Completely agree!!!  Too many kids think they HAVE to commit to one sport instead of be competitive in two or three, and football is always the sport dropped "because it's too dangerous"!  I can tell you right now there a several, and I mean several kids that could, and should be playing football at HH and are not!!

We've had some former "specialists" give football a try at the MS/frosh level this year and they are having a lot of success.  IMO it is (in large part) due to the fact that we had some high profile football stars also lead the basketball and baseball teams to sectional titles.  It continually amazes me that 99% of the sports world agrees that specialization is not good, yet parents still think their kid is "different".  smh....

Colson Montgomery - Southridge:

Arguably one of the best athletes/quarterbacks in the state. Lost him to Baseball and Basketball. One of the few athletes that is almost "Too Good" to play Football.

I don't have an issue with Colson dropping football with whats at stake for him.  He has top tier NCAA baseball coaches drooling over him wanting him to come play baseball and most colleges have said we will let him play basketball too.  Heck, he may never go to college because he may end up being drafted so high it makes sense to go straight to the pros(Minors).  He is still a multi-sport athlete.  I just dont like seeing kids only play one sport to specialize.

Loosing records but still in the SIAC and are not supposed to loose to the dismal PAC or Big 8. Memotial is in their last year of relivance just as Reitz was last year.

Had to read this twice...thought you coined a new word "Memotional".  😂😂😂😂

SR was bumped to 3A for 2 years due to enrollment and now two years for Success factor.  I do believe SR would have taken care of business against MD the two years we were up.  Just IMO.

MD would have won the years we were up in 3A (2003, 2004, and 2005). So what's your point? I would wipe the floor with Southridge and every other team in Indiana on tecmo super bowl.  Just IMO.

Gimme the Bears and lets tango on Tecmo Bowl.  Run 1, Run 2, Pass 1, Pass 2.  That playbook was a killer!

The more this season goes along, the more I am thinking Memorial is the 4A team representing the South come Thanksgiving.  The team most likely team standing in their way is East Central.

A lot of games to be played.  I expect Reitz to get things turned around before sectional.  Central is a very good team.  Jasper seems to be improving.    Sectional 24 will be tough.  Depth and health will be an issue for us.  We have a very small junior class, so a lot of younglings are getting significant time.

Tango - It’s always reassuring to me when I realize I am not the only Lou Holtz on the GID.

I can think of a few that gave up other sports but it does seem like football is dropped the most. The Buse kid that transferred to Tecumseh was really good at Football, Basketball and Baseball as a freshman but decided after his freshman season to give up basketball and concentrate on Football and Baseball.

I would imagine   AAU is as much to blame as football being dangerous...At HH we have kids that go from basketball season to spring AAU to summer basketball then back to AAU  when the IHSAA moratorium kicks in and then play in the Pocket City fall league and right back to basketball season.

Can you imagine if we still had Scherry playing football ?? 6'2" good jumper, good hands , speed and can even kick, booted a 34-yard field goal as time was running out his freshman season to beat Gibson Southern in a JV game. I would guess he would be the top receiver on the team and one of if not top defensive back.

As much as I would love to see him playing football I can understand why he gave it up 2 time all-conference in both basketball and baseball and verbally committed to Evansville baseball but still getting college looks in basketball.
