Sagamore Conference 2019

I'll bite.... Frankfort and Lebanon-- Never won it outright...   North Montgomery has never shared it.

Complete guesses on my part.

Frankfort is right.  I show them having 4 shared titles but none outright.  Lebanon has actually won the title outright 4 times and shared it another 2 times.  The other half of this answer is a perennial state power that was part of the conference originally but has not been in many decades.  They left with only 1 share of the title which technically makes them the least successful Sagamore Conference football team ever haha.

The team that has never shared the title is a current member and has won it exactly 3 times.

No idea on the first question...

Southmont has never shared it.

This is correct.  The last member of the conference to win a football title in 2009, they ended up winning it outright in 3 consecutive years (2009-2011).

Yep.  I bet most people under the age of 50 didn't know the Sagamore Conference originally included Carmel, Noblesville, and Brownsburg (along with Crawfordsville, Lebanon, and Frankfort).  I know I didn't.  Carmel only shared the Sagamore title once before leaving which makes them the least decorated Sagamore Conference football program of all time.  I'm sure that really stings!

Anyway, I looked all this stuff up because I didn't know which team(s) historically had the most football championship.  I could have miscounted but here's how the teams stack up all time (through 2018):

1.  Danville (1999-present, 20 seasons) - 8 championships.  5 outright and 3 shared.

2.  Noblesville (1967-1980, 14 seasons) - 7 championships.  6 outright and 1 shared.

2 (t). Crawfordsville (1967-present, 52 seasons) - 7 championships.  6 outright and 1 shared.

2 (t). Tri-West (1999-present, 20 seasons) - 7 championships.  5 outright and 2 shared.

2 (t). Western Boone (1982-present, 37 seasons) - 7 championships.  5 outright and 2 shared.

3.  North Montgomery (1975-present, 44 seasons) - 6 championships.  4 outright and 2 shared.

3 (t). Lebanon (1967-present, 52 seasons) - 6 championships.  4 outright and 2 shared.

4.  Brownsburg (1967-1985, 19 seasons) - 5 championships.  4 outright and 1 shared.

5.  Frankfort (1967-present, 52 seasons) - 4 championships.  4 shared.

6.  Southmont (1985-present, 34 seasons) - 3 championships.  3 outright.

7.  Carmel (1967-1974, 8 seasons) - 1 championship.  1 shared.

Webo actually has 8.

Zionsville was in the Rangeline for years.  Can't remember the teams, but I think it was.  Zionsville, Sheridan, Westfield, Hamilton Hts.  Plus a few others that were in and out.  Scecina, Yorktown, New Pal, Triton Central, HSE.  Not sure just looked at some old football schedules.

Congrats to the Webo Stars who have claimed at least a share of the Sagamore Conference title and can win it out right at home on Friday against Lebanon

How did Danville and Tri-West escape 28 while Crawfordsville and North Montgomery were included?  Don't you almost literally drive through Tri-West if you're traveling from Indy to Crawfordsville?

It's like the Webo girls track team driving past the Zionsville sectional on their way to the sectional at HSE which is twice the distance from Webo.

Lizton is technically South of Crawfordsville

Congratulations to Western Boone on a 2nd straight undefeated Sagamore Conference season in a row and being the first program to win the conference 9 times.  Not bad for being the smallest school in it.

Now my 3 questions for the postseason.

1.  Can Western Boone make another deep run in 2A?  I think losing some of their depth from last season has certainly weakened the defense a little bit and the wide receivers are not as sure-handed as last year's group.  But they are solid on both lines and if Spencer Wright plays well they are going to be a tough out for anyone.

2.  How far can the winner of the Danville/Tri-West game go?  Indian Creek and Ritter could also have something to say about the winner of Sectional 29 but whoever gets out of that sectional looks to be a solid favorite against whoever gets out of Sectional 30.  They could find themselves in the semi-state championship and an upset away from the state finals.

3.  Can Lebanon beat Western?  Western Boone fans have a unique perspective on this game having played both teams and having their only loss to Western.  Western probably exposed a couple of weaknesses in that week 2 win and caught WeBo off guard but they've done little since then to impress.  If the Tigers come to play, I think they can take this one and play for a sectional title.

-Saw Webo play this year and last year. I thought last years team was significantly stronger so I'd bet against another championship. But the Stars are still very good.

-Saragin likes both IC and Ritter more than the two Sag schools, so we'll see. Regardless its probably just an effort to see who gets to be plastered by HH.

-No.

I don't think Webo is the same team from week 2 (when Western beat them) to now.

I don't think anyone would argue that Webo was deeper last year.... But I think they are a different team this year, Spencer doesn't have the numbers, but he hasn't had to either.  They have been running the ball down people's throats, but with Spencer back there (along with Hole, Garrity, and others) the threat of him throwing is still there.  So what do you stop?  Do you stack the box and make Spencer throw?  I like our chances... Do you play Nickel/Dime and take Spencer throwing the balll away?  I like our chances with Wethington/Taylor/Irion running the ball.

They have many more guys going both ways, but other than the 1 point loss to Western they have beat everyone pretty handily (the Danville game wasn't as close as the score).  The Defense has been solid since the Western game and even with giving up 42 to them, they are still averaging less than 12 points a game.
