Referee shortage

Recommended Posts

Having coached in many 1a games we, love the work done by all the officials that have worked these games and put in time in to help better our sport!

We have started a class this school year "Advanced Team Sports" that is going to focus on helping seniors work to become licensed in sports that they play. By doing the sport in class we will work some of the mechanics of the specific sport, help the students with rules and interpretations, and how to handle issues with fans.  We have had contact through the IHSAA who has been very helpful and has helped pass along some materials to help in teach the class.  We are planning to have the students do some youth games in the area to get first hand experience. Goal is to have them graduate and be able to officiate next year in the sports that they have chosen.

Lots of people bemoan the shortage of officials. Some people do something about it. Thanks. 👍

If 1A football has to go then so should you.

If we could make that trade I would happily disappear, mission accomplished

I gave a reason in this very thread, until you removed it.

I am well aware that this is a troll situation.  However, just because there are not a high number of students in your school, doesn't mean you should not have the opportunity to learn the endless amounts of life lessons taught through the greatest game ever created.  If you're learning the important life lessons such as accountability, responsibility, work-ethic, teamwork, and discipline, the brand of football you're putting on the field is secondary to these ever so important lessons.  If these lessons are taught and followed through with, the wins and losses take care of themselves and society is better because of it because many of these young men are not taught these lessons anywhere else.  Just one man's humble opinion.

Glad to know you are such a basketball fan, a true Hoosier.

No you provided what you called a solution to a ref shortage

So go ahead, start a brand new thread and spell out all the reasons why 1a football should be eliminated from 64 schools and their student athletes they service and community they live in.

Good Luck

Maybe I shall

It would help the numbers on the soccer, tennis, and cross country teams?

Not to mention these events are important to the community, ESPECIALLY at the 1A level.  By and large rural communities where the school provides a common meeting place, and athletic events (especially football games) can bring people together, and even help drive local commerce.  So let's not kill football in the Rockvilles, Atticas, and Kentlands of the state.

And it isnt a dumb crusade, there are plenty of legitimate reasons to get rid of 1a

Feel free to show up at one of those 1A games and grab the PA Mic and explain this to those 1A folks?  I would have welcomed you to Linton any time...

This idea seems a tad bit excessive
