New Prairie 21- Penn 17 Is this Russ Radtke's biggest win ever?

Little New Prairie jumps up to the Big School division in The NIC and knocks off Mighty Penn 21-7 after losing to the Kingsmen 35-7 last year in their first ever meeting.

Is this win bigger for Radtke than his state championship at Griffith in 1997?

The Cougars are 7-0 and rolling towards a conference championship and a potential deep run in the 4A playoffs.

Penn is 3-4 with tough conference games remaining with Elkhart Central and rival Mishawaka.

Let's see....a 4 point win at home against a rebuilding team...nope.

Appears as if the Penn program has lost all respect here on The Forum.

A loss to a 4A school with 2000 fewer students is taken as a normal event.

Surprising

Thinks there's a wide gap between "normal event" and "biggest win ever" considering Radtke has won 300+ games and been to multiple state finals. It doesn't have to be one or the other in this scenario.

It was a great game and a teriffic atmosphere.  The place was packed for senior night at New Prairie High School.  NP was something like 7 for 7 on fourth down conversions.  Coach Radtke is just 5 wins away from becoming #2 all time in wins and he will get before the season is 74-18 (.804 winning percentage) at  New Prairie and has established a culture of winning everywhere he has been.

North Judson over Jimtown in 1986 was a big deal.  Griffith over Lowell or Hobart in some of those matchups in the 90's.  Beating Penn is a big deal any time it happens.

Beating Penn regardless of the current state of their program is always a big deal.

Is it the biggest win of Russ Radtke's career? Not a chance.

Wonder what the Coach himself would have to say about that.

Not to put words in Coach Radtke's mouth, but I'd have to imagine beating a 3-4 team in a rebuilding/injury-filled year doesn't rank anywhere near winning a state title or the numerous sectional and regional finals he has collected over the years.

Since 1994, Penn's NIC record is 144-3.  Id say the NP win was quite monumental, regardless of the Penn rebuild situation.

It can still be a monumental win and still not be the biggest win of Radtke's career. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Why can't we acknowledge that NP's win over Penn as a legacy win while also acknowledging that it isn't Radtke's "biggest win" of his career? It isn't. Not by a mile.

How do you know that with 100% certainty?

What are you asking? You asked if this was Radtke's biggest win? I don't believe so, that's my opinion. The only person who can say with 100% certainty is Radtke himself, anything else is just speculation either way. I'm of the opinion that somebody who has won 300+ football games, including a state title, a semi-state title, and multiple and sectional/regional titles is going to tell you beating a 3-4 team in the regular season doesn't pale in comparison to any of those championship accolades. Again, my opinion.

Think you have to break up post season and regular season when talking about this kind of topic.

Biggest win in the regular season for him? Probably in the top 5 for his coaching legacy. (He has played and won a lot of meaningful games throughout his career). A thrilling win that gives you at least a share of a conference title that only 2 other teams have claimed in the last 40 years? That’s pretty powerful.

You can probably come up with a lot of “fun facts” from this game. But at the end of the day, this was just another chapter in the coaching career of Russ Radtke that folks will be talking about long after he retires.

Hes won multiple semi state games

1984 and 1986 at Judson. 97 at griffith and 14 at new prairie.

He's 1-4 in state games (0-3 at Judson, 1-0 Griffith 0-1 at new prairie)

Id prob also say the 97 win against hobart is up there.

Only coach in the state to lead 3 different programs to the state finals.
