This thread needs locked or eliminated.  We have moved on.  It has nothing to do with high school football!

It has everything to with high school football. People like Tyler Bruce, and the administrators that enabled him, make life difficult for male teachers everywhere. An example needs to be made of people like him.

People will pick and choose what pertains.  I think it pertains, but I'm a male teacher and I have to keep doors open, watch for people's perceptions, and make wise choices because of things administrators do...although I've been called out on here that administrators making the wrong decisions are rare.  I've had enough administrators to know that they many do what they can get away with.

Tri-West students walk out in protest over fired school employee: https://www.theindychannel.com/news/working-for-you/tri-west-students-walk-out-in-protest-over-fired-school-employee

Quote

Students at Tri-West High School in Hendricks County staged a walk-out protest Thursday morning following a Call 6 Investigates report that led to the firing of an attendance secretary at the school.

The former attendance secretary, David Pyatt, told Call 6 the school failed to protect students from a teacher who is charged with child seduction.

Several dozen students walked out and told RTV6 it was in support of Pyatt. Students and parents alike said they are upset about how the whole situation has been handled by school leaders.

"He got fired for doing the right thing and trying to keep us safe, and it's not fair," a student said.

The student walkout was planned for 10:25 a.m. Thursday, however students said the fire alarm was pulled at 10:23 a.m. North West Hendricks County School Corporation interim superintendent Scott Syverson wrote in a message to parents that Tri-West High School had a planned fire drill that occurred before the students walked out. Syverson wrote:

We had a planned fire drill today at the high school that has gotten some social media attention because it happened prior to the “walk out” by some of our students. This was a planned fire drill for the month as required by law and all protocols for a drill were followed. Students did an excellent job of exiting the building in a timely, safe manner and returning to class. To be clear, no students were blocked from leaving or reentering the building.

We also had about 48 students walk out after the fire drill as part of a protest to the recent termination of an employee at the high school. Those students were also allowed to leave and a few of them returned to class for the afternoon - many did not. Any student who missed class due to participation in the walk out was counted as unexcused for any class missed. No students were suspended or expelled for participating in the walk out.

Once students were back inside, a group got their bags and walked out, planning to stand outside door 5 in support of Pyatt, the door he often monitored.

Students said there were teachers blocking exits in an effort to stop the walkout. The students also said once they left they were not allowed back inside. One student said she forgot her car keys inside and she was not allowed to go inside to get them.

"We really respect Mr. Pyatt and we don't think he should have gotten fired," one student said. "I kind of think our school has not been the same and we want it to go back to normal. It's just kind of sad walking into a classroom and feeling like you can't learn because teachers and administrators are so focused on one problem."

A communications consultant paid by the district told RTV6 that, "Students need to be in school and can return. All absences are considered unexcused."

Students outside the school said they don't know what else to do and the situation has started to impact their day-to-day life at school and their ability to learn.

"It's just been really disturbing to see how it has changed our school and changes peoples' lives entirely," a student said.

Another student said her message to the school district's leaders is to be more transparent.

"You have to stop sweeping things under the rug," she said. "You have to start doing things that are better for students and this community."

Sounds like the citizens of Eel River, Middle, and Union townships and the towns of North Salem, Pittsboro and Lizton need to vote out the current school board, replace the administration, and basically start over.

No issue at all with the attendance secretary reporting this.  By law, he has a duty to do so (which is why all the others are professionally hanged).  Copying the surveillance video, which he probably downloaded to a personal device without school permission, and then distributing it to the media (even with permission from the victim’s parents) is not a good way to ensure job security.

That being said, the clip of the AD walking in on the coach and the student, then walking out smiling is disgusting.  This is on a similar level to the Park Tudor situation with Kyle Cox.  A scumbag coach with an invincibility complex that bit him.

A recent update on this tragedy:  https://www.indystar.com/story/news/crime/2020/08/04/two-tri-west-administrators-face-failure-report-charges/5562061002/

Two Tri-West High School administrators are facing criminal charges after being accused of failing to report sexual misconduct allegations involving a then-teacher and coach, Tyler Bruce, and a then-student. Hendricks County prosecutors filed the criminal charges Friday against dean of students Stacey Begle and athletic director Nathan Begle.

The Indiana Department of Education moved to suspend the Begles' teaching licenses in February of this year. Both Stacey and Nathan Begle were placed on paid administrative leave, a district spokesperson told the IndyStar in February.

The district received multiple tips in February 2019 suggesting Bruce would work out alone with the student, who was 16 years old at the time, and alleging an inappropriate sexual relationship between the two, according to court documents.

Court documents suggest Stacey Begle, Nathan Begle and then-principal Adam Benner had a meeting during which Benner told the Begles that any further information should be brought directly to him. Benner said he and Nathan Begle spoke to Bruce about no longer working out alone with the student, but no information was reported to the Department of Child Services at that time.

Benner resigned from his position as the school's principal in June 2019 and has since been charged with a misdemeanor of failing to report the allegations.

Documents say an attendance assistant saw the student alone in Bruce's office with the lights off and then reviewed surveillance footage that showed the student and Bruce alone together in Bruce's office with the lights off on multiple occasions.

In May 2019, the attendance assistant allegedly told Stacey Begle about his observations and urged her to report what she knew to DCS. According to interviews with police, Stacey Begle said she did not consider the attendance assistant's observations to be new information and said she would bring the information to Benner.

Around this time, the Hendricks County Sheriff's Department began investigating the sexual misconduct allegations.

An attorney for the student filed a tort claim last year against the school district, claiming officials failed to protect her from the abuse. Bruce, who faces felony charges of child seduction, denied the allegations in August 2019.

Bruce was fired earlier this year, according to an announcement by the North West Hendricks School Corporation. He faces allegations that he asked the girl to send him pictures of herself and that he touched her inappropriately multiple times at school, including reaching under her shirt and touching her stomach.

That was the second time the school corporation had made a decision regarding Bruce's termination. Last summer, the board unanimously voted against firing Bruce, who had at the time been placed on administrative leave after the attorney representing the girl came forward with allegations.
