Let's try it again. How about we agree any posts not tied to the topic get deleted?

That said......one step closer, but it appears the NCAA is one step closer to contracts, but likely knows they cannot call them contracts because they want to avoid many of the rights a contracted employee is entitled to under the law.

Just an intermediate step in the evolution to college players as salaried employees of the institution.

Not a fan of the free for all transfer portal and going to the highest bidder.  Not upset kids cashing in.

Irritates me when the announcers say this player played at school x then transferred here.  Why?   Don’t recall them saying where kids played hs ball and didn’t bloviate when it wasn’t as common just a few years back before covid.

If these athletes are cashing in this big, free up that scholarship money to others and let them pay their own way.

One thing I would LOVE to see is some of these highest earners and their academic course load they are taking on.

Agree on the idea of if you make more money in a year than the value of the scholarship you have been granted, that there should be some sort of recalibration

Isn't there a hard 85 rule now?

I know some of the lower revenue earning sports that cannot award full scholarships for their entire teams (ie, track, swimming, etc) base the amount of scholarship based on athletic performance.  (i.e., points earned by the athlete)  I know this doesn't work for football, as the highest performers get the most NIL $$.  But would love to see some type of performance indicators used...perhaps academics could be tied into that equation.

Concur

And supposedly that's what I was reading about these billionaires who want to start buying into 51% of college teams to run it and invest their money that they make as a 50% shareholder into improving other facets of the University in their programs

Because most of these places are got different tax codes based on how they are. You know state funded or other universities they sell off 51% of let's say IU football to Mark Cuban. Then he could then take his profits and then reinvest it into the university how he seems fit with different text codes

Carson Beck, late of Georgia, and coming off serious elbow surgery, decides not to try the NFL, as he had previously declared. Instead, he’s headed for the transfer portal. Miami (FL) appears to be a front runner for him.

Might as well.   get paid.....perhaps more than a 2nd or 3rd or even 4th round pick where he may have fallen......

no brainer, get healthy, get a great year in, back to top 15 in 2026 perhaps

Wonder if that was a job he truly wanted...or if he was pushed out of Penn State?

Fair question. He did say his daughters live in the Carolinas, so it seems like a solid reason.

NFL? Go out on a high note and not deal with pressure at OSU anymore? That seems to be a popular take. Herbstreit broke down in tears talking about how much crap Day and his family have taken this year in Columbus.

Retiring or going to the nfl to be a “leader of men”?

A grown man cried about this?

Good Lord.  It’s a kids game that is getting out of hand.

Yeah.  His family has gone through hell...and (though I am biased), the OSU fanbase is among the most toxic/delusional in the country.

They have him on a pedestal now but just imagine if he loses his 5th in a row to Michigan next November.  It'll start all over.

Gotta strike while the iron is hot and right now its as hot as its gonna be.

Jags ?

Oakland ?

Dallas?

New Orleans?

Out of those.....I would rank likely of Day being a candidate to :

Jags

Saints

thats it

do not see Dallas nor Oakland going that route personally

Who is worse,  OSU football or IU basketball in that regard of toxic/delusional ?

That 2nd line is the selling point for me. Why go back to the that life if you can walkaway with a National Title and get an NFL gig?

Hmmmm...interesting question. I will say no chance OSU fans/alums ever let the football program fall anywhere close to where IU BBall has fallen. Could you imagine even 2 seasons of OSU football being unranked?

Perhaps its a price one pays when they blast their opinions and they spar on social media calling people names.  I see he is staying off social media for the most part and that is a wise move.  But I don't see him as near the victim he makes himself to be.....much of the crap he receives is due to the bed he's made.
