Let's start this 2025 thread with the current big question, who will the next HC be?

https://bearswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/bears/2025/01/16/nfl-insider-claims-bears-head-coach-job-is-down-to-2-candidates/77755968007/

Quote

The Chicago Bears have searched far and wide for their next head coach, requesting interviews for at least 20 candidates since the regular season ended. Could they finally be narrowing down their search to just a couple of people? That's what one NFL insider believes.

FOX Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz appeared on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" on Thursday and claimed the Bears job is down to just two candidates: Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy. "It's been made clear to me that for all intents and purposes, the Chicago job—and I haven't said this publicly—it is a two-horse race between Mike McCarthy and Ben Johnson," Schultz told Cowherd. He also said Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores could be in the mix if he interviews well but maintained that Johnson and McCarthy are the leading candidates.

..

Tough choice for me.   But McCarthy was a long time coach of the hated Packers. So I'll pick Mr. Johnson.

They will screw it up anyways.  Bears fans can be delusional.  I’m hearing in order to get Johnson, Poles is out the door.

It’s gonna be Big Mac.  Who cares if he coached the packers?

Real Bears Fans.   Don't take the evil empire's discards if you can help it.

The same real bears fans that are delusional?  If he can coach, he can coach. Which he can.

Face it dude, Aaron Rodgers was right, they (Packers) own you (Bears).

Can’t even put the two organizations in the same sentence in terms of well run organizations.

But always remember, it’s just a child’s game being played by millionaire adults.

Yes, I am.   I worked in a field dominated by logic, concentration,  and precision.  I can afford to be delusional about my NFL team.  It balances me out.

Whatever helps you sleep at night. It’s a kids game.

Big Mac is a leader of men.  Isn’t that what your fearless gm says he’s looking for?

Yes, he is.  I just don't want a (former) leader of Green Bay Packers.

SB ring and ass kicking of the bears scare you?  Go take a little hike to clear your head and come back once your senses return

@Sparty  do you assume everything you see or hear on the internet and AM radio is rooted in truth?    Because I don't and this is AGENT season time and they are having a field day once again creating choas for websites and podcasts and social media clicks.   Rinse Repeat each and every year.    Bottom line, NO ONE KNOWS what is going on in Hallas Hall besides the folks behind the walls led by Ryan Poles.

McCarthy is safe choice

I will be watching what Joe Brady and Monken look like tonight, been a fan of Brady and I think if I had to pick between him or Johnson, it would be Brady on 2 fronts, scheming with success in cold weather city and more traditional approach, the more I have watched the Lions and Johnson, the more I am getting too much of the Nagy vibes of getting too cute with schemes and the razzle dazzle.

I don't mind Eddie George interview,  I believe Matt Campbell will be a great NFL head Coach.

What makes Kliff Kingbury so HOT now, when he was fired by Arizona not 2 years ago?   From I can tell at least with Daniels vs Murray is he is not relying as much down field verticals shots, maybe personal based, at least that shows some flexibility in scheme

Dare I saw Kingsbury has a lot of Wade Phillip in him? i.e. Great as a Coordinator. Not great as a HC. I am definately intrigued by Brady and Monken. Monken is a "Chicago" guy as well. He's from Wheaton.

Yay, another wunderkind offensive coordinator as head coach.  Like Matt Nagy.

Well, in fairness to Johnson, Nagy didn't actually call plays in Kansas City.

So I assume whoever Mr. Johnson hires as his OC actually won't calls plays either.

Matt Nagy finished with a winning record and 2 playoff appeareances.....

He was too SCHTICKY for me, too CUTE at times, I hope Coach Johnson is selectively aggressive with some of thos gadget things

Muda, you didn't want McCarthy, and now tone of disappointment for Johnson hire, so who was your horse?

Key to this was Johnson PICKED POLES and Bears over Brady and Raiders with his own GM all in together and Jags....

If poles doesn’t address the o line IMMEDIATELY, buddy’s gonna be working at Wendy’s and Johnson will be picking his own GM next year.

No kidding

I have been talking about this for 10 months plus,  this was the year, the bandaid stop gaps he tried didn't work out for various reasons,  Bates, Davis, Shelton

They have 4 picks in the top 72

around 70 million in cap space

SOunds like Coach Johnson is bringing OL coach from Lions with him, that is exciting (can they sneak Sewell in a suitcase out of Detroit? )

the OL will be addressed heavily so will the DL and LB corp imo

Short of Mike Ditka having de-aging treatments my horse would have been Marcus Freeman.  Other front runners were Mike Singletary and Brian Urlacher.
