One of the state's top high school basketball programs has been placed on probation.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced penalties related to Culver Academies' boys basketball team on Monday.

Culver's program will remain on probation for the entire 2019-20 school year. Coach Mark Galloway will be suspended for four varsity games (and all other basketball contests at any level during that time period).

The infractions are unspecified.

Galloway, a former Carmel coach from 2002-10, is entering his 10th year at Culver. His son, Trey, is a senior and committed to Indiana.

Culver is a combined 47-10 the past two seasons with back-to-back trips to the Class 3A state finals, winning in 2018 and falling to Silver Creek last season. Because of the tournament success factor, Culver is in Class 4A this season.

Culver must also provide the IHSAA "a written plan of education for the athletic department staff respective of IHSAA by-laws, policies and procedures" by Nov. 30 and document face-to-face meetings with coaches covering those topics and by-laws.

Failure to meet all provisions set forth by the IHSAA will result in Culver being disqualified from participation in the 2019-20 state tournament. Any further by-law violation will also result in disqualification from the state tournament.

Things that make you go "hmmmmm".

Probation is nice way of saying, you got caught, do some side education and prove you were educated and next time something like this happens you are in deeper trouble.

For Instance:  Bowman Academy, had to sit out all IHSAA tournaments for 2 years.

I find it interesting that NO PLAYER was excluded from any games either.

Essentially this is nothing more than a slap on the wrist and some bad PR for a moment.

Thank you, sir!

Reason give in article has been updated.

Culver Head of Schools Dr. Doug Bird told IndyStar via email the infractions resulted from a violation ofRule 15-2.5, when the ”boys basketball program conducted an open workout outside the prescribed period for limited contact which also included alumni participation. This event occurred during Culver’s Reunion Weekend and was intended to engage alumni with our coaching staff and student-athletes."
