Between the stadium drama, the Combine, the upcoming draft & free agency, there’s plenty going on to keep Bears’ fans occupied as we head toward the new League year. So, might as well start a new thread.

Saw that the 49ers and Trent Williams are nearing impasse. How would that guy look in Navy & Orange? What say you @Coach Nowlin?

He’d be a great addition to any team on field.  It’s the off the field stuff.  Not sure the Bears want that in their locker room.

Luxury addition for sure:  However, already over the CAP, I think they like OZZY, BUT... how he comes back will be unknown for some time.

Based on what I have listened to POLES and CBJ say:

1.  They LOVE combo on RIGHT with Jackson and Wright:  So Darnell stays RT

2.  They are NOT moving Thueny to LT

3.  Trent Williams is 38 yrs old:  He is due to make $22 Million BASE:   https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/6513/trent-williams   NO CHANCE

4.  DJ Moore is getting traded:  My guess they will settle for Moore for a 4th at best 6th round at worse.

5.  Best Available will be the mind set as seen last year when they took Loveland and Burden

6.  Swift Walks:  Monangai takes lead role:  Draft late RB again

7.   Brisker walks:  Resign Byard 2 year deal

8.  Cut Tremaine Edmonds, doubt you have any sort of Trade leverage with cap situation

9.  What players contracts can be converted to signing bonuses to free cap space ?

??   What off field stuff?

2011?   and 2017?   He got suspended for Weed..... cmon man, now NFL doesn't even test for it

Nope.  His wife, pregnant even maybe, and taking his girlfriend to some public show.  Complete distraction.  Don’t think the bears would welcome that into their new locker room.

MEH:   That's a nothing burger in the landscape of NFL locker rooms.      Perhaps they have a Poly style marriage,   to each their own, but his wife seems to be not upset about it publicly, and my guess is that if this was an issue, why would he just show up at NFL honors with his GF ??

But my reasons to say no to him has everything to do with 22 million and 38 years old

Bears just rated a B+ locker room. Thinking they would like to be rated higher and don’t think that would help the cause.  Just my opinion.

Fair enough

I saw the headline on OWNERSHIP and saw A -

Didn't read the article yet, not sure if I will, but curious if you read the article, did it say what went into the criteria of "locker room"?

Indiana citizens share frustration over state paying $1 billion for Chicago Bears stadium: https://www.hitc.com/indiana-citizens-share-frustration-over-state-paying-1-billion-for-chicago-bears-stadium/

Quote

Indiana’s effort to bring the Chicago Bears across state lines has prompted visible frustration from some of the taxpayers expected to help finance the move.

Lawmakers advanced legislation supporting the construction of a new stadium in Hammond and promoted it as an economic opportunity.

For many residents in northwest Indiana, the proposal instead signals added financial pressure. The central concern is the scale of public funding tied to the project.

Tax package sparks backlash in northwest Indiana

Under the proposal, the Bears would contribute $2 billion toward the stadium while the state would provide up to $1 billion through a 1% food and beverage tax in Lake and Porter counties, a 5% hotel tax increase in Lake County, and a 12% admissions tax.

Chuck Pullen, an Indiana radio personality on WJOB-AM, shared his frustration when speaking to Robert McCoppin of the Chicago Tribune.

“A lot of blue-collar people in the area are struggling to get by. They’re asking, where’s our local and state government to help us? And why do the Bears get this special treatment?”

Americans for Prosperity in Indiana moved from a neutral position to opposing the measure after the tax details emerged. The group encouraged lawmakers to reject what it characterized as a risky public subsidy.

Decades of economic research show stadium subsidies fail to generate net growth, and this proposal repeats the same mistakes granting broad powers, open-ended liabilities, and special treatment for a private sports franchise at taxpayer expense.”

The legislation passed with bipartisan backing. Opponents argued the tax structure would weigh heavily on communities already facing economic strain.

Economic concerns extend beyond stadium construction

Hammond has a poverty rate of 19%, while nearby Gary and East Chicago approach 30%, based on census data referenced during the debate.

In Lake County, nearly one-third of seniors reported choosing between food and medical care in a recent community study.

Critics say those figures complicate the case for new taxes. They also cite long-term debt associated with comparable projects as a warning.

Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis still carries about $463 million in debt more than two decades after construction began. Illinois continues to owe roughly $467 million from the 2003 renovation of Soldier Field.

The Bears have not finalized an agreement in Indiana, and discussions in Illinois remain active. Until a decision is made, debate over whether taxpayers should fund up to $1 billion of the project is expected to continue.

Cities and counties with high poverty rates shouldn't be subsidizing billionaire sports franchise owners.

Still blame Andrew Luck

Bears reportedly making a “strong offer” to the Eagles for AJ Brown. Sorry, but I have to disagree with that one. Don’t need him in the locker room.

Mr. Moore traded to the Bills for a 2nd round draft pick.  Not bad.

The Bills landed a new top target for quarterback Josh Allen, agreeing to a trade with the Chicago Bears to acquire wide receiver DJ Moore, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Thursday.

Buffalo is sending a 2026 second-round draft pick to Chicago in exchange for Moore and a 2026 fifth-round selection, sources told Schefter.

The Bills will be guaranteeing $15.5 million of Moore's $23.5 million base salary in 2028, agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey told Schefter. Moore's $23.5 million base salary in 2026 is fully guaranteed, and his 2027 base salary, also $23.5 million, becomes fully guaranteed next week.

The trade cannot officially be processed until the new league year begins next Wednesday.

Haven't dug in yet on that guy Washington cut.

To have cleared and got under the Cap by the retirement of Dalman and trading and not having to eat any money on DJ Moore is an INCREDIBLE start to the off season

Currently, the Bears have $32M in cap space, and 4 picks in the first 2 rounds. Mr. Poles, it’s right there in front of you. Given the strides they made last year, if Poles hits a homer this off season, they will be in as good a position as anyone to win a championship.
