Big 8 will be down to 6 teams.

Outside of a forced rotation through the smaller PAC schools, I can’t imagine the Big 8 not being somewhat flexible to work this out.

Jasper, VL, Boonville will desire a stronger conference schedule for sure. MV feels they are on the upswing after a 5-5 season last year. Princeton and Washington are the only unknowns, but Princeton already plays GS and, in my mind, would like a stronger schedule after adding Ev. North in 2018.

Unless, of course, the SIAC comes into play for 2 or 3 of the Big 8 schools...can’t rule that out.

I think adding Ev North makes for a weaker schedule. Bigger isn’t always better 😂

Is was much more than a week ago and frankly I am still shocked that some of the PAC schools would buy in.  That said once I received the additional information, I had to go with the facts...my “opinion” was simply wrong.  In terms of SR preferring the small division...I have heard this from multiple sources I believe to be reliable.  I could give two squats if you perceive me as credible or not.  If you have any ties to your own administration...I would encourage you do some investigation of your own.  We should much more in less than two weeks.

I was also told that Southridge requested the small school division, and that Southridge Superintendent is completely on board with this move.

You are correct. But North is a much bigger step up than Princeton’s previous opponent, Wood Memorial.

Whether that was by choice or not....

My point is that I don’t see Princeton being afraid of an increase in SOS.

Agree...they are not afraid of an azz whoopin.

Yes. But will there be as many azz whoopins handed out by GS with VL and Jasper on the schedule?

Based on calpreps data below covering the Nick Hart era at GS, and (as a middle school coach) the intimate knowledge I have regarding what Vincennes and Jasper have in the pipeline, I would expect GS to have significantly fewer azz woopins as compared to Forest Park and Tell City and some real entertaining battles that should aid in preparation for post season.  That said, I feel really good about our chances regarding Ws vs Ls.

IMO if those 3 end up together Jasper will be the more dominant team over the long haul. Hard to argue with the success they’ve had over several decades.  GS would be my 2nd pick based on the success Hart had from 2012 to 2015. Based on last couple seasons it looks like Levi is doing it the right way.  I still give GS a slight edge over VL.  It would be nice to see HH and SR play in 32 just because of the rivalry in sports.

I have heard Princeton is trying to pick up another SIAC school for week 2 instead of TH North. Not sure if a PAC/B8 merger would affect that.

I hope not. Playing non-conference in Weeks 1 and 2 just makes so much sense.

IMHO, GS will continue to dominate the new group just as they would most likely have over the past seven seasons. The consistency of play has been unparalleled locally during coach Hart’s tenure and that includes ‘16-‘18.  Remember it took the SIAC team of a generation to slow the post season success part.  You can expect that to pick back up.  Arguably, no other team in 3A was going to slow GS in 2017..so again..amazing consistency of product over the 7 year span.  Again, knowing what I know from personal observation of VL, JHS and VL (all solid groups), I fully expect HS to be the team to beat 2020 and beyond.

Seal 63. Not very familiar with VL football. What does the future look like?

The future is bright. The numbers are way up again. The freshmen class was large enough to field their own team, but from my understanding it would’ve hurt the JV numbers, as many underclassmen played varsity in 2018. That JV team, with the two middle school teams lost a total of 2 games combined (middle school plays GS, Jasper, and Castle). So the hope is that there will be a freshman team this fall.

I believe the varsity will have the same expectations in 2019 as the previous year, if not higher. They lost some key players to graduation (Corrona, Lane, Malone, Combs),  but it was a relatively small senior class overall. Quite a bit of experience returns at all positions other than QB and WR. Sophomore Colten Pfoff, in all likelihood, will take over under center. His development will carry a lot of weight in determining how the season goes. I expect a beast of a defensive front for the Alices.

The team to beat, yes. But I don’t see any one team “dominating” on an annual basis.

You’re basing this belief on the past, which is understandable. The Big 8 has been mediocre over the past decade, save for a few exceptional teams. Meanwhile, over that same time period, GS has been the model for consistent excellence on the gridiron. So it’s easy to assume that this trend will continue. But based on what I’ve watched over the past two seasons, in particular with VL and Boonville winning conference championships,  I expect the Big 8 to return to its 2000’s form in the near future. We’re already seeing the escalation with the aforementioned teams forcing Jasper to move on from Tony Ahrens. The Cats won’t be down for long, I promise you. And with the VL/GS youth programs seemingly an even match, I expect some damn good battles down the road.

A couple of valid points in there.  Should be an interesting next few years!

I think GS will be great through the 2022 season...essentially all of Allen’s high school career and then another year after that because I think the class under Allen’s (current 8th graders) are tough as nails and show lots of promise.

After that, I have no clue lol

After that current 7th grade outright PAC champs with no one in the conference even close.

6th grade....work in progress.

5th grade....get your popcorn..potentially 2015/2017 type group.

I've been doing this a LONG time.  I get a pretty good idea VERY VERY early.  Feel free to PM me for more detail.
