PAC 2020 a new beginning

Recommended Posts

It's official. The Pocket Athletic Conference is going to divisions in football.

The PAC board of directors voted on Tuesday to adopt several conference guidelines starting in the fall of 2020. This comes after the conference approved in June the addition of new members Boonville, Mount Vernon and Princeton and Washington starting next year.

The real change will come in football. It has been widely speculated previously that the Pocket would choose divisions based on enrollment when it moves to 12 teams. Following Tuesday's vote, that will be the case.

Using current school enrollment numbers, here are the following divisions.

Large Enrollment Division: Boonville, Gibson Southern, Washington, Princeton, Heritage Hills and Mount Vernon

Small Enrollment Division: Pike Central, Southridge, Tell City, South Spencer, North Posey, Forest Park.

Tecumseh will remain an independent in football. The divisions will be reclassified every four years (2019, 2023, 2027, etc.) based on the enrollment figures at the time. Each division will have a champion based on division wins and losses.

The following sports will play all conference schools with a conference champion being determined by conference wins/losses: boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls tennis, softball, baseball and volleyball.

The following sports will host conference tournaments to determine a champion: boys and girls cross country, boys and girls golf, boys and girls swimming, boys and girls track and wrestling.

I do not want to turn this into a "contraction watch" thread, but I have heard from family members that Pike Central and Washington are really struggling to get numbers.  Have you heard similar rumblings?  I would hate for that to happen.

The PAC is already down one member from the conference I remember in Wood Memorial.  (I know they went to the SW7 prior to the incident that caused them to disband the team.)

I could see the new alignment helping PC.  Not sure that schedule would appealing to Washington, and throw in a coach TBD it would worry me.

I think this change could help to turn the tide at Pike Central.  More of the same at Washington I am afraid...they have plenty of kids...hopefully they can get it turned around.  Basketball is so popular there but I can remember some very good Washington football teams.

Devils advocate here....I know the kid has had a questionable couple of seasons transferring....but in all honesty....moving out of Evansville is probably a family decision.

I myself was looking at moving back to Indiana this summer but when I got to looking....the prospective jobs did not outweigh the standard of living change. This isn’t to say there are nice areas of Evansville...just that....if I’m trying to start a family/already have a family...Evansville Is far from ideal.

just giving the benefit of the doubt here though. I personally have absolutely 0 issues with a family simply wanting to live in a better area...their children’s success in athletics doesn’t matter provided that it’s not the reason for the transfer.

kicked off basketball team because of behavior and moved from QB to DL/DB because of poor leadership/attitude. I’m guessing this has zero to do with living in a better area. This one will  be up to IHSAA. Central is recommending  zero participation for 365.

I disagree with your assessment of Evansville.  It's a great place to work and raise a family.

 LOL.  That is pretty hypocritical...

With one school not "signing off" there is probably 0 chance of full eligibility.

there is no way this is a move to get away from Evansville. Wants to be a QB, will not be at Central witn the sophmore they have already penciled in. Central will not release him to go elsewhere in Eville. The only other closer move to a winning program would be GS and we all know they dont need a QB. So put 2 and 2 together

North Posey seems like the prefered spot for wayward X Central athletes...perhaps they are looking for a QB?

@tango

im sorry but Evansville really isn’t ideal.

One simply cannot overlook the insane amount of violent crime in the area on top of a nasty drug epidemic.

im probably going to upset some people with this next comment....but only in Evansville Indiana can you be declared the “fattest city in America” as well as the “meth capital”. Those two things don’t go together.

it’s something like 1 in 19 are victims of violent crime.

there are a lot and I mean a lot of houses that are not being kept up well by the owners

then I can get into it being in a state with desperate need for education reform...I can also talk about how it’s stationed near mega polluting power plants...cancer + SIDS are high for the area.....

like man.  I can probably go on and on.  It is absolutely not ideal at all.

there are nice pockets but everyone in the area knows living just outside of Evansville is 100% more ideal. There is no argument to this. Evansville is really bad. It’s  not Gary bad but it’s enough.  If you say otherwise you probably haven’t lived in many other places or are just in denial.

sorry not sorry

Actually I have that backwards LOL.  But hey...there is a pathway right!

I was trying to figure out who was the last Central athlete to come to NP.... Castle, Mater Dei, Gibson, Mt Vernon, Day School... all of those I can think of a kid but not Central.

I’m not saying the whole place is rotten lol

just saying. Just firmly disagree that Evansville is this cute little city that is great for raising a family.

Sure, many have probably done a fantastic job and have found a nice little neighborhood with little issue....but come on.  Everyone in SW Indiana and the surrounding area knows what Evansville is really like

You need to leave Coal Mine Road.... occasionally! It’s not all bad out here. 3 things we always do in the Ville....Keep windows up, doors locked , and revolver ready. If you get assaulted I know a really good lawyer.

Almost forgot...always travel in pairs.

I was trying to figure out who was the last Central athlete to come to NP.... Castle, Mater Dei, Gibson, Mt Vernon, Day School... all of those I can think of a kid but not Central.

As I age my fingers are much faster than my brain....it really is a sad state of affairs.  LOL

My wife and I are both professionals working in Evansville since 1993.  It's a nice place to work.

I don’t even live in southern Indiana anymore lol.

I currently live in De Pere, Wisconsin.  Up until a month ago I was planning on moving back to that area. But then I started actually looking at homes and looking for potential jobs.  I looked from princeton to Evansville.

im saying this as someone who spent nearly a decade in the area...I moved away.  Now looking to move back and actually looking into things....huge red flags. so now I’m staying in Wisconsin and buying a home here... opting to just travel to see family.

Btw...I absolutely do not think Gibson county is much better.  It’s got its own mess...especially with the whole refusing to zone thing because people prefer to back yard bob all construction projects and don’t like the idea that they would need permits and have to have their work inspected.  Absolute shame really. Many residents including some of my own family are too cheap and prideful to go through the proper channels to build something/fix something on their home. God forbid it’s actually inspected and up to code...  Owensville/Montgomery township (where I’m from) is especially becoming a joke and looks worse and worse every time I come back to visit. (besides the nice new fire station lol) Let’s not even get into how the residents threw an absolute  fit when it was proposed to put windmills out in the middle of nowhere in Gibson county.

I’ve been to like 28 states and have lived in 6 states man.  I’m not the one who needs to get out more 😂
