So those us us who cannot afford private school or are able to stay home with our kids because of a job supposed to do? That is why  those option you give are not actually possible for an over whelming majority of people. Public school is the only realistic option for thousands of kids in Indiana.

Personally, I like public schools.  Say what you want to say, but they do a pretty good job, other than pay teachers properly😄

Public schools actually pay much better than private schools.

Not surprised.  As for the Catholic schools, nuns do take a vow of poverty.

You don't see many nuns in the Catholic schools anymore.  The church has a lot of money, you'd think they'd do better.  I know the church has a rich tradition and lots of rules, but I was turned down for a job because of something someone else did.  That's crazy!!!!  Just opinions.

Right you are!  Back in my day, however, Sister Ratchet instilled a deep seated fear in all of us!

Yet they are a de-facto government monopoly.   You want better pay as a 5th grade teacher?  Get the government and unions out of the system so you can adequately advertise and sell your skills/experience on the open market.

As a person who has taught in 3 different countries, my perspective is if you remove the government, the poor will suffer even more than they do now.  I do think schools should be governed, but as locally as possible.

Im watching CNBC this morning, and I cant help but think that a MASSIVE wave of needed contraction is on the near horizon.

How many coffee shops do we need?

How many tattoo parlors?

How many vaping shops?

How many sub shops?

How many hair cutting chains?

Did we really need all the grocery stores to get into the gasoline business?

How many bad high school football programs do we really need to provide the IHSAA with the competitive balance it so desires?

I look forward to a massive  RIGHT SIZING of all institutions across the country as this virus weeds out the bottom level performers, across all facets of life.

Our economy has flipped too heavily to a service economy over a manufacturing economy.  You will note that all of the businesses I have identified for contraction are service businesses.  We simply dont need this many options.  I also look forward to consolidations and mergers-buyouts n the oil sector, where companies like Exxon Mobil will receive the proper valuation they deserve for the products and services they provide to society.

Pure capitalism.  Survival of the fittest.  Trimming of the fat.

As a consumer, I consume.  The overwhelming variety is a very groovy thing...

Next week you will see a massive spike in unemployment.  There will then follow a huge migration of workers in the over supplied unnecessary services sector moving into open jobs at stalwarts like Walmart,  Kroger,  Lowes and Home Depot, all of whom are looking for additional labor.

Amazon needs 100000 workers.  Papa John needs 10000 delivery drivers.  LOL

I like it.  Most of these younger people have never had a rel job anyway.  This will build character and responsibility.

Only because we now have 3rd-4th generations of the "poor" sucking on the government teat.  They have learned to accept it and live with it.

The lack of social mobility has a lot to do with it, but you can look at it how you'd like.  You can see this, positively and negatively, in societies the world over.    Survival of the fittest, more like learning to be the best, or at least better than the next person.

The "lack of social mobility" has a lot do with a lack of desire.  "Just getting by" is now the accepted norm for entire swaths of the population, thanks primarily to the "War on Poverty" started by the LBJ administration.  But you can look at how you'd like, that it's the fault of capitalism.

I'm not sold on too much of that.  The fault often lies on the fact that a few families accumulate wealth and make it difficult for the rest of us.  Evolution isn't as exact as you two are making it out, but you'd have to explore that more.  As usual, we're all human and investigate and buy into what pleases us at whatever place in life we happen to be.

Just like Bud Fox in Wall Street, I’m staking my own claim...

lol,  you truly believe that?  Stop playing the victim card.  What is stopping you from being one of those "few families"?   Have you every stopped to think that maybe, just maybe,  these "few families" had the desire, the work ethic,  the idea to build businesses that allowed them accumulate that wealth?  That, in fact, they earned most of it through blood, sweat, and tears?  And what right do you have to demand they share their success with you and your ilk?

The free market decides how many we need.

Nope, not you!  I need to make sure I get my quotes in correctly.  The science is fairly clear.  You can be what you want to be.

Nope, I've studied it extensively.  They often inherited it or were in the right place at the right time.   I'm not demanding they share anything with me.  I'm telling you that very few families, and even churches,  have controlled the world for a long time.  It's changing slowly, but surely.  As the white population shrinks across the world, things will change tremendously.  I'm not asking you to believe me, but you can certainly research it from good, sound institutions, not places with an agenda.  I suppose I'm thinking power/wealth together.
