And you would be wrong.  But go ahead, keep believing that if it makes you feel better about yourself.

However I will celebrate when government gets out of the education business entirely.

Education and business don't belong in the same sentence.

You and DT have sure fooled me, with your hundreds of combined posts chronicling the potential demise of youth athletic programs, all in the name of your own entertainment.

Frankly you are a fool if you don't believe education is a business, and should be able to respond to market forces like virtually every other business.

And the GID is primarily entertainment, would't you agree?

I don't believe this is an "if" anymore my friend.

Maybe not, I just hope there will be football.  The governor of Virginia had ordered a stay at home decree until June 10, could we be far behind?

2 things.

I say not an "if" anymore because I believe 8 man is happening.

A longer stay at home order for Indiana probably won't happen until both Ohio and Illinois do it...It seems we've been more reactive instead of proactive....but that's a different topic for a different forum. I hope we get a season too!

8 man wont fly in Indiana.  Its a game played by and for hard core football fanatics in Oklahoma and Texas and in the mountain-desert west where there are no population centers.

Practical Indiana decision makers would rather spend money on reinforcing popular pastimes like basketball and soccer than to try and build an audience for 8 man.

I can see CV killing off up to 10% of current Indiana High School football programs.

You will start to see these localized decisions being made this spring as we approach summer camps and workout season.

I read a report yesterday that college ADs and admins are now in the decision making process relative to the upcoming season.

The Olympics, which were to run mid July to end July have been cancelled for a month now.

Some major decisions coming soon.

Interesting that Indiana and KY both have zero 8 man.  Clearly the overriding influence of basketball.  They both look at football as a cost consuming nuisance sport and wouldn't even bother with a watered down version like 8 man.

Ohio, another border state, does not want to diminish its football product by offering an 8man option.

Agreed.  And it's an inferior product compared to traditional 11-man tackle football.  The same with 9-man and 6-man (?!?!) versions.

Play the game the way it was intended to be played at a competitive level or don't play it at all.  All these watered down versions scream of desperation and the "everybody gets a trophy" mentality that so many here on the GID purport to abhor.

Spot on.  Football was once so popular that ADs could not even fathom the idea of eliminating the sport from the athletic extra curricular menu.

Those days are over.

Contraction will now be viewed as a practical choice based on a multitude of factors, and will not be viewed as punishment for on field failure or forced elimination of opportunities for student athletes.

There was an ESPN documentary about a 6 man team in Texas.  That made me think.  Football has a place regardless of how many players are on each side of the ball.

6 or 8 man would be followed.

Just play flag football and make it a non varsity club sport.  Its basically the same as 7 on 7.  No pads are needed

Folks who are in that Texas region will tell you ... they take their football seriously down there.  There's room for both 11-man and 6-man down there and it doesn't diminish the 11-man fervor.

This aint Texas!!!    Not even close.

6 man or 8 man will fail miserably in Indiana.  It will never get off the ground

Except that youth football in Indiana has already started seeing leagues with 7-man and 9-man full-pad/full-tackle teams playing in them.  Included in schools playing this type of ball is a 2018 and 2019 sectional winner 5A school and a 2018 state champion 3A school.

I don't know if I buy completely buy that.....growing up in the 812, I remember many high schools too small to have high school football.  My siblings all graduated from schools that didn't have football. And the schools that did have football, would easily have more fans in the stands for basketball games.  It was all about basketball....single class basketball.  I get in the 219 it was different.  We even used to talk about football was a northern Indiana thing.  I moved into town and went to a bigger school and played the sport...it was becoming more popular at that time....my mom loved to go to the games...she'd tell me I don't understand a thing, but its fun to watch you play.

The Colts arrived and that began to change....and change it did.  And then football powers started forming outside of the 219....

I get it was different in 812 communities such as Evansville....not sure about Terre Haute.

Just to be clear....I did not wear a leather helmet....and I had a facemask....pretty cool one at that.

Are you in the 1979 photo?
