Yes. Coach Orkis is next to coach radtke. Haha..i asked who the other guy next to coach white was. The guy didn't respond.

I think, just from the far picture, is Russ’ longtime assistant, Julio. I forgot his last name. Real good guy.

Going to be quite a commute every day.  Without going into much detail, coach Radtke and his wife if 48 years Jane reside on the eastern outskirts of Valpo in Washington Township.

It is very sad and depressing that Portage can’t retain a good football coach anymore.

KNOX
REDSKINS
Coach: Russ Radtke, 0-0 in 1st year at school, 368-140 in 44th year overall

Coach Radtke may have other objectives in mind relative to this move to Knox

I believe Russ is motivated to become the all time winningest coach in Indiana High School Football history.

He is within striking distance of all time leader Larry Bud Wright, who sits at 423 all time wins.  Radtke is at 368, and in great health where a 10 yer run at Knox is not out of the question.  The Knox schedule is very soft.  I could see Russ averaging 10 to 12 wins a season over the next decade and moving into the top spot.  A couple of deep state runs will also likely be in the mix

Since the HNAC started

Winamac has won a sectional

LaVille has won a sectional

Triton has won a sectional

Knox has won a sectional

North Judson has won a sectional

Pioneer has went to state 3 times.. Winning twice.

Our conference is a nice 1a/2a conference. Knox will eventually drop to 2a.

Also. Im not doubting Coach Radtke as a coach.. Hell have his work cut out for him when these 7th through 9th grades come.

North Judson, LaVille, Triton and Winamac have some good classes coming up. Pioneer has a good junior class, a sophomore class that has potential. Their 9th graders have a couple players and 1 is a stud but he's a tad bit older than his teammates and kids hes going against.

So you’re saying sports are cyclical?  Interesting...

Also not many 1a/2a conferences have 3 head coaches combined for 4 state titles and 6 runner ups.

HHC has that beat though! Bud and Coach Gilbert from CLC!

WRC isn't too far off with Crabtree (NV), and Moore (PH)

As a head coach.. Has coach Moore been more than 2? Crabtree has 2 as a head coach, herb king has 1 ring as a head coach and Barrett has 1 as a head coach.

I thought Gilbert is retired?

How many coaches have state titles in the mwc?

This part is irrelevant. No one brought them up. Stop trying to stir the pot.

I am really struggling with what Russ did to Portage.  I had a little respect for him before now none.    What does Portage do now???   I really feel for the young men in program.

Jumping to conclusions, or do you have access to some non-public information?

Just saying that leaving the players now during these times leaves alot to be desired.   The players are the ones who are hurting now.   Bob I have as much non-public information as you do, and we all know how knowledgeable you are.

I agree.  Its not a good look for Coach Radtke.  It looks somewhat selfish to me.  He had plenty of time to fully and completely vet the Portage opportunity. The community had hope for the first time in a very long time for a competitive Duneland Conference football team.  And he up and bails out of nowhere at the last minute for a more "convenient" opportunity.

I've done the same, so I wont cast aspersions.

But it doesn't look good.

It is more "convenient". Don't they have a farm near Knox??

Isn't one of his sons an administrator at knox schools?

Didnt he graduate from a school in the county?

Didnt he use to coach at said school he graduated from?

Isnt one of his coaches a teacher at judson?

Knox isn't open. I bet Radtke is still at Portage but the fact this job opened up, it allowed a man whose career is probably almost done to come close to home.
