They saw Texas, Arizona, Florida and Georgia re opening and wanted to as well... Now look. AZ has more covid cases then some countries.

If it continues to rise.. We can't play sports period.

AZ will blame it on the Indigenous.

Face masks to be mandatory in Marion County beginning July 9

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett and Marion County Public Health Department officials said Thursday that they’re mandating that face masks be worn in public in Marion County.

Beginning July 9, face coverings will be required to be worn in indoor places where the public gathers, such as in office buildings and retail stores. They’ll also be required outdoors when it’s not possible to socially distance.

The mandate comes as Marion County prepares to enter Stage 4.5 of the state’s Back on Track plan, announced by Gov. Eric Holcomb on Wednesday. The state is strongly recommending — but not mandating — Hoosiers wear masks and has launched a marketing campaign aimed at encouraging face coverings.

As part of the new public health order, events larger than 1,000 people will be required to submit a health and safety plan to the Marion County Public Health Department for approval.

Nursing homes and assisted living facilities will remain closed to visitors, and overnight camps will not be allowed.

“This isn’t complicated. It’s a piece of cloth. It’s a piece of cloth that could save your life and the lives of those around you, and it’s the right thing to do,” Hogsett said.

How wishy-washy is stage 4.5?  Sounds ridiculous.  Save face.    Roll eyes.

I think your point would have more weight ... if our society weren’t so mobile. The absence of any borders except lines on a map cries out for more uniformity than individuality in any solution. The virus doesn’t read maps.

I’m speaking specifically to the “rules” in place in specific locales that impact how folks interpret the “danger” associated with the the virus.

I went to the region/southwest Michigan recently.  Crossed the state line multiple times.  Was like two different planets.

I thought the myth of protecting/saving MY OWN life by wearing a mask had been debunked already?  Are we back tracking on that now too?

Particles get in through non-medical masks yet my particles can’t escape.  Not the other way around.

At the same time, I saw a post online that the Indy 11 soccer team is hosting a game July 11th with fans in stands.

The plans were for coaches and players to be masked when feasible at workouts so it shouldn’t change much.

Holcomb should have no problem with the opponent sadly... So "election year" doesn't really matter in his case.

You wearing a mask helps others. Them wearing a mask helps you. So if we all collectively do it we reduce the spread. It will never eliminate it, but greatly reducing isn't a bad thing. And in most instances it's really easy to do. A football game isn't one of them though. While eating or drinking isn't one of them. But if you aren't doing activities like that why not? The science clearly states it helps in a significant enough way.

If that's the only person you care about, then do what you want anyway. Just stay away from me and my kids.

Thought this was interesting. Major business. You would have to think they spent mega money on this ad. Read the message. Then read it again. See if you pick it up. It’s called CYA. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Unless you are over 65, I’d most likely be doing you a favor by transmitting the disease your way.  That way you could get it over with and sleep at night.

Look at the data.

Transmitting a virus is "doing someone a favor"? That's the attitude that can keep fall sports from occurring. Please stay away from Hamilton County.

You think that Ed Orgeron and Dabo Swinney are disappointed that so many of their players tested positive when reporting to campus?  Do you think that’s a coincidence?  Look how much higher their numbers are than other programs.

Get it, miss 14 days of conditioning, quarantine on an empty campus, be ready for fall camp.

Your kids will be fine.

I’ll look at the data, you continue to watch CNN with your voodoo dolls.

I don't watch CNN nor do I have voodoo dolls. I care about my family and others I may interact with.

It is now a virtual lock that we will have high school football this Fall. Post your comments, observations, hopes, fears, etc., as we try to find the “new normal.”

Observation: there is no possible way the high school football season can proceed safely. The pros and NCAA make a better case for the return to competition, since the cornerstone of their guidance is frequent and thorough testing of even asymptomatic individuals coupled with isolation protocols. Yet several colleges have already suspended their summer programs because of large numbers of positives. There won’t be any such testing at the high school level.  If you doubt it, read this article by former Munster High School Trainer John Doherty. https://www.nwitimes.com/sports/sports-medicine-even-athletes-must-be-vigilant-to-ravages-of-covid-19/article_1c678744-361d-5ce9-8baa-e37e76a39f63.html He quotes Dan Slotar, a fellowship-trained infectious disease specialist, as follows:

“I’ve been an advocate for reentry and reopening of society in general but with certain caveats,” he said. “Some sports are easier to contemplate restarting without the need for as aggressive testing as professional athletes have the luxury of access to. So there is obviously going to be a spectrum. Cross country and golf are one extreme and wrestling would be the other extreme. I would be hesitant about contact sports like football or even basketball without testing. I don’t how that can be addressed on the high school level.” (emphasis supplied)

Comment: the return to competition is driven almost wholly by economics. The IHSAA got no revenue from the boy’s basketball tournament. They miss the boy’s football tournament and they’re going to be bankrupt. Schools are in the same boat. Without that revenue, athletic departments are simply unable to function. So, I hope we have a great season. But don’t kid yourself. People are going to die who would not have died otherwise. I hope it’s worth it.

Virtually everyone will get this virus regardless of the precautions we take. It’s just a matter of weather or not you have symptoms or not.  The higher the % of the population that gets it, the less dangerous it becomes.   It’s how a virus likes this works.  Have you ever considered this?  Since this is the case,  why do anything different at all?   I suppose in November that will likely be the case.

The science?   Show me the science that states this.   I have seen the same people stating it helps say the exact opposite on a separate day.   If I say, “the science clearly states masks don’t protect you”.  Does that make it true?
Do you know what the Science does clearly state?  We will all likely be infected and the higher the %, the less dangerous it becomes.

How many references do you want?

I can list as many more as you need to get it through your head that masking works.

Now, in return, how about a list of scientific references from you supporting the notion that the best way to address the threat posed by SARS-CoV-2 is just to make sure everyone gets the disease? I’ll sit down and wait for your answer.

Those are this week’s links.  Fauci is the only doctor that gives his own second opinion.  If you don’t like his first one, you don’t have to seek out another doctor, you simply have to wait a couple of days and he’ll give you another one.

LOVE IT OSFB. LOVE IT. Honestly. Check out the picture I posted on page 5 here from Bank of America. Masks “CAN” help, not “WILL” help. YUGE difference.
