Football Guru 25
If schools keep pushing start dates and/ or are not sure when school is gonna start for multiple reasons, how does the IHSAA still feel and insist moving forward with sports is proper thing to do. Is this even possible without having full week in classrooms??
LaSalle Lions 1976
According to Mr. Nadig...They are going to wait until 8/3 until they make any more decisions. The issue could be whether players who are online are allowed to practice and play. Some schools are ok and others not so much.
Gipper
The last time I checked we’re not doctors, elected public officials, etc. Those that are will make their decision regardless of how we feel about it when the time is right. Football Guru 25
Seems to me like there is to much doubt and un answered questions to continue this year... plus with numbers going up requiring us all to mask up across the state why would we continue
Gipper
There is a lot of doubt. I still feel uneasy about sending my kids back to school.

Football Guru 25
so lets go another week as numbers rise to just see??? Numbers will just go up again this week so how is July 27th when masks are mandatory across the state versus August 3 any different. Are we making the kids tread in water as the hurricane is approaching sort of speak....if so i hope they can make it to shore before sinking...... IHSAA is making absolutely no sense other than greed!!!!!!!!!!! To be honest i think coaches feel they wont be playing this season..just my opinion!!! from_the_sidelines007
So at one time, I read a graphic that had our various sports placed in different categories of risk. The highest risk were sports like football, wrestling, and basketball because of contact. In the moderate category were sports like soccer and volleyball, once again due to contact. In the lower risk category were sports like golf, tennis, cross country, once again due to contact. Obviously I did not name all sports . . . no offense to the other sports. Please don't take my point wrong. Would the state tell the student-athletes in the higher risk categories they can't have a season, but tell those student-athletes in the lower risk category they are allowed to have a season? Not trying to be a smart guy here . . . . just asking. My thought would be that if the IHSAA shuts down, they shut all fall sports down. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007

How full will the stands be allowed to be if there is a season? Half full? Family only? Family and students? FBS Scouts? Many parameters... Did you think “numbers” were going to go down after our reopen? Case numbers are fearporn and a simplistic view of a complex issue. Going back to school and sports isn’t going to make things worse in Indiana in terms of “numbers” that matter. Remember, crude case counts are only newsworthy when they are RISING. I think in regards to fans, i bet it will be similar to what the plan was for regionals in basketball. I still believe either the season gets cancelled midway or we just move it to spring. 34 minutes ago, Titan32 said: Did you think “numbers” were going to go down after our reopen? itiswhatitis
Gotta love it. They wait until now to make masks mandatory, yet there will be no punishment if you are caught not wearing one. Wearing masks should have been mandatory from the beginning. They go 4 months before deciding this is the correct move. People are STILL going to ignore it even though it is one of the methods recommended to stop the spread of the disease. And why should they wear one if there are no consequences if they don't. I see this as contributing to more fights, etc in every day society. Indiana could have been a national leader in this months ago, but apparently someone was worried about hurting someone's feelings or taking someone's decision away from them. by making this mandatory. You reap what you sow. There is not going to be a season. . There could have been, but not now. Too late to close the barn door once the horse has escaped. One human life is too many to lose. They speak of a few hundred deaths being acceptable. How tragic and how shallow. Edited July 27, 2020 by itiswhatitis

There will be lots of solutions district by district. To do this right it there isn't a one size fits all solution. Football can continue in Indiana without 100% of schools participating. There is just too much data from around the world that clearly show opening up schools won't change the trajectory of hospitalization or death rates. It also appears most schools will have a virtual option. I like that fact that if there are folks that truly fear for the safety of their child they also will have options. I say that in full view of the sun that there are places in this country that won't have a lot of options.

LCCAlum
I think the IHSAA is kicking the can and letting the schools make the call. Someone can correct me if im wrong, but I believe they even put out that if kids are doing online learning from home they are still eligible to participate in sports. That to me is them saying "Hey schools, ball is in your court" if you want to play we will be here to run the tournaments. This is very different to the approach they took during the Boys Basketball tournament. It's going to be an interesting next 8-10 days. There may just be a handful of programs still playing by the time the playoffs start. The IHSAA will press on. What would be interesting to see happen, is see which programs are still playing at the end and reclassify those teams; maybe even reduce the number of classes.
