Illinois Moves Football to Spring OFFICIAL

Let's see if people start praising the IHSA for moving football to the middle of flu season.

Mind boggling and irrational.

Middle of the flu season? Flu season usually runs from october through February.

So you are ok with playing football in October and November (start of flu season) but not the end? Got it.. Smh.

Per the CDC ‘flu activity peaks between December and February, but activity can last ars late as May.’

And ‘Stat Guy’ please look at the graph on the CDC site and tell me which month is the highest? How does it compare to October and November (which only about 1/2 of teams advance to in the playoffs)?

You really should learn something other than strawman arguments. Anytime you say ‘So you’re saying...’ and then try to rephrase someone’s opinion to fit your narrative, you are only showing your ignorance.

That is not necessarily a bad thing. Ignorance can be cured.  I’m looking forward to helping some of my students with it when I return to the classroom soon.

Coach, this is a realistic plan.  Volleyball cant be held indoors this fall either...

March to June football will be OK for one year...

But where is baseball and softball in this plan. Summer?

The best thing about spring football is that it allows fans back in the stands in some way...we have time to plan

Football is the money maker.....To have it this fall with few or no fans is a losing proposition....

..and all senior boys get a chance to play football AND baseball, right?

That will be interesting to see the grind that may put on lower class kids (Jr & Soph). End football in May and then go back for the 2021 fall season in July/August.

This. This right here.

Apparently I may be in the minority on the whole "let's move to the spring," but I'm telling you, medium to long term I just don't think it will be worth it. I want kids to play, no doubt, but I think we're going to see a lot of burn out in places that go with a spring option.

I just don’t see it as a thing.  Or maybe it will go over like basketball at the Summer Olympics...

Worth what? Its one year. One season. Everybody gets their chance later and nobody risks unknown circumstances now.

This is not a permanent change.

If the alternative is:   2021 Seniors lose their final year.   This is better, I would guess.

Maybe I dont know football players but I believe sophs and juniors will gladly play more in a smaller 'window' so older boys can get that final year.

Very much so, the kids I know don't care when the season is or how many games...they just want to play.

Its not like it would be a full season, 15 games...you are probably looking at 6 or 7..regular season+ playoffs...so at max 12 or 13 games...maybe less.

Id imagine baseball probably gets moved to early June to early july.

As always there are pros and cons to all things.  Moving Football to the Spring will most likely eliminate your D1and D2 athletes that are Seniors.  No D1 program is going to want their recruit to play then if they haven't already opted for Early enrollment.

I wonder if having baseball and softball during the summer might be a better thing than the spring anyway?

I've always thought may to early july was best. I think that's what Iowa does...too many seasons have cancelled games.

On the flip side.. I know there's at least one d2 conf thats playing in spring, same with ivy league.. So the kids that potentially would enroll in january probably wouldn't be able to.

Is it one year?  Are you sure about that?  Positive?

The goal posts keep moving on who we are protecting most and what the entire goal of this thing is.  A vaccine guarantees nothing even if it is produced in gross quantities.  The fear porn has been spread so widely that many folks will never mentally recover and keep their kids in a bubble because they don’t know who to trust.

This is great news for Craig Buzea, who is fighting a battle against leukemia.  Perhaps more time off will give the coach a chance to return to the sidelines and lead his team in spring 2021.  Go HF Vikings!!!   Good luck Coach Buzea.

Football will run until mid May.  Playoffs past the first two rounds of what is Regionals here, is TBD based on conditions.   Baseball will start mid May, and run through the end of June.

My son will be playing freshman Durham this year, and I personally am a little concerned about the quick turn around to his sophomore football season, but I would rather this option than cancelling the season.

Should be an interesting year over here.

Kicking the can down the road could be kicking it onto a landmine.  There is no reason to believe things will be any "better" in the spring particularly if rudimentary case counts are the metric.

Correct.
