NLCTigerFan07
Wonder if NorthWood and Valpo could make it work this week as both teams are without opponents and have already lost 1 week of their season previously.

I wonder if this won’t affect Chesterton because it was a coach, not a player. The coach is the person you would have to be in close contact, and the MC players are close contact, would Chesterton quarantine for being a close contact of a close contact? How many levels of contact tracing goes too far?
oldtimeqb
I don't like the headline of this thread. I guess "suspends season" is technically correct, but I thought after reading the headline they were done for the year. "Suspended for two weeks" is a lot less jarring to read. As far as Chesterton - 48 hours prior to symptoms is the worrisome timeframe. Depending on when the coach started showing symptoms, Friday night may not be in that window.

The statement from the MCHS athletic department was posted at midnight and clearly states, “Wolves Football Program Suspended”. Indian72
It just shows how careful adults and students need to be. I would suspect more of this happening at any time 1
PhilLee
That's ridiculous. ONE coach has a fever and he's considered a "close contact" of 100 football players? And this shuts down the entire football program for 2 weeks? Are these coaches living with 100 players? Otherwise, there is ZERO reason to be doing this. Feel bad for the kids who are being forced in this school system to be under these idiotic rules. 4

Indian72
What is ad the actions of one individual could cause the season to go away. I hope the person did not know he had come in contact with and did not do somewhere that could have lead up to it. Why you have to follow the guidelines totally
Howe
I work in a manufacturing plant with over, 1,000 union workers where 80-90% refuse to wear masks . Our plant never shut down and had five people test positive for the coronavirus on two seperate ocassions. The company implemented a mandatory mask policy on May 04. The union workers refuse to wear masks or social distance and the union supports their workforce. I observe hundreds playing cards at picnic tables during their break and lunch periods. They sit in groups of four and no one is more than two feet away from the other three workers. No one is wearing masks or social distancing. The plant has worked 6-7 days per week since the coronavirus outbreak including all 31 days in August. There has been no further spread of the coronavirus for the past 124 days. Virtually no one is wearing masks or social distancing. The human immune system and herd immunity is the key. All of this social distancing and wearing cheap non medical grade masks from China is nonsense. 3 1

Not that I agree with them doing so, but the company would be in for some fines by the State Health Department which I would imagine create action with the Union. The Health Department has been issuing fines to places of business not in compliance with the mandates.

The legal counsel of the company obviously fears losing an arbitration hearing or a court case. OSHA toured the plant three weeks ago. The union workers still refuse to wear masks or social distance. I'm confident herd immunity was reached in early May.

They cant ignore a contact with kids who are under age. Adults can take health risks. Kids, legally, cant. The school had to do this. The season is not over for MC. Hopefully none of the players or other coaches are sick. Obviously Howe doesn't trust science and that is why he still follows the herd immunity idea. For Herd Immunity to happen safely we need a vaccine until then we need to slow the spread so our hospitals aren't overrun with the sick. The stupidity of the uneducated is why we are in the mess we are in right now. If only we listened in May and June and opened slowly, wore masks, and avoided large gatherings we would have this much more under control. All kids would be in LIVE school and we would've avoided a lot of sickness and death in our country.
Howe
I laugh at these people claiming “science” supports the strategy of sheltering in place and wearing cheap non medical grade masks from China as protection from the coronavirus. Most of the people in Education have been locked out of their schools for the past five months while listening to fake news. It is business as usual in the manufacturing plant where I work. Approximately 800-900 workers ignored the mask and social distance rules. No one has tested positive for the coronavirus for the past 124 days. Virtually no one has worn masks or practiced social distancing for the past four months.

United Auto Workers are guaranteed a 40 hour paycheck regardless of whether they show up for work or not. August and September are extremely hot and very busy months in automotive plants. It will be interesting to see if the Japanese, Korean and German owned auto manufacturing plants in America are experiencing the same issues.
