Guest DT
Therer are some interesting conference affiliation discussions going on in varios active threads. This is always a popular topic on The GID as everyone has ideas on what is just the best fit for each and every school in the state. Once we come out of COVID, I believe schools will take a hard look at where they are at and we might see some more movement. I see 3 current conferences that each have their specific challenges : North Central - old dying industrial towns living on the glory of past hoops success. Conference Indiana - always talk of defections and reshuffling Circle City - Big school / small circle setup is not the best The Big 12 consolidates key football centric members of the 3 conferences : Here is the line up : TH North TH South Bloomington North Bloomington South Columbus North Southport Lafayette Jeff Lafayette Harrison McCutcheon Roncalli Chatard Brebeuf
Bobref
You could swap Guerin in for Brebeuf. Otherwise, it looks pretty good. Cue the whining about travel in 3...2...1

Footballking16
Decent parity but don’t understand the need for a conference that doesn’t allow every team to play one another and effectively crowning a conference champion? That and you eliminate any possibility of scheduling out of conference, thus effectively ending long time rivalries; Chatard-Cathedral, Columbus North-East, etc. It’s a no for me.
Gipper
The folks in Lafayette don’t like going to Terre Haute and I bet that goes the same for Bloomington and Columbus. Even Southport is a haul, especially for Harrison.
Gipper
I don’t think Roncalli should be in a Brebeuf can go either way.

Hoosier Hills, but that would involve lots of travel, and the Midstate could possibly work. Or has that ship sailed?

Gipper
Why is there a need for a 12-member league. I think 8 is a better guideline. Edited September 24, 2020 by Gipper

Lafayette to St. John 85m Lafayette to Merrillville 81m Lafayette to Crown Point 79m Lafayette to Munster 94m Let's get crazy and go with this Super Conference: Big 14 West: Lake Central, Merrillville, Crown Point, Jeff, McCutcheon, Harrison, Munster Big 14 East: Portage, Valpo, Chesterton, LaPorte, Michigan City, Penn, Elkhart You get your wish with Munster, who can compete in every sport besides football, finally joining the "Duneland" members. 6 Division games, 1 crossover, 1 "Championship Week" similiar to what the Hoosier does, 1 OOC game. Muda69
The Sagamore Conference will need to change as well. Towns like Lebanon and Danville, along with the Tri-West area, are slowly but surely becoming part of the Indianapolis bedroom community urban sprawl and will grow too big for the primarily small town/rural-centric Sagamore. I am all for it and agree that there should be some new conferences out there. Especially with Conference Indiana falling apart. I just had to say that about you DT lol

You know, I was being a little silly (it does happen, kids), and am surprised it got this much traction! How about vertical as opposed to linear? Crown Point, Jeff, Harrison, Lake Central, McCutcheon, and Merrillville would comprise the South and Chesterton, LaPorte, Michigan City, Portage, and Valparaiso would be in the North. Gipper
Munster could very well be the potential 12th member, but are they happy in the NCC? Conferences are about much more than Football, I think it would be very strong in basketball and baseball as well as girls’ sports because apparently some Duneland schools are taking... The problem is the time zones.... The present-day DAC is all in the same time zone. There's no incentive for Merrillville, LC, CP and Munster to travel into the Eastern time zone in 20 IHSSA sports/ How would they benefit? Now if we had 'virtual sports' where kids stayed home and played each other in cyber space without ever going outdoors. . Then this could go!!!! Just visualize yourself on the Chesterton swim team coming back from McCutcheon High School on a snowy Thursday night with a Calculus exam the next morning.

As we all know, this is not a perfect science, we can scheme it up as much as want but the schools make the ultimate decisions. Lafayette Jeff and Richmond have probably been playing ball ever since Grandpa Gipper was tearing it up as a fullback on the A. J. Kent High football squad. I don’t think the ADs of the NCC want to walk off so quickly...
