According to Indiana State Police, Ingles was traveling southbound in his Jeep on I-69 in Madison County around 3:43 p.m. when a Toyota sedan, traveling north, drove into the median, went through the dividing cable barrier and collided nearly head-on with Ingles' vehicle. Ingles' Jeep veered off the road where bystanders found him unresponsive and pulled him from the burning vehicle. Emergency personnel were unable to resuscitate him and Ingles was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 50 years old. "Cowan Community Schools is heartbroken with the tragic passing of beloved teacher, coach, mentor, and friend Mr. Ingles," Cowan Community Schools said in a statement. "He was an extremely popular teacher that had an amazing impact on the lives of countless students in our small community. The entire Cowan Community grieves with his family during this difficult time.
