lol...ok, but your original point was about Dullaghan...he had moved on before that point as well, to Purdue and West Point. He came to BD for the 84 season.

Really not sure why you continue to reply; your original point is long lost.

Is this why Carmel always qualified for the playoffs?

Carmel was so good they caused most of the schools in the Conference to go out of business.

Quick story about Coach DD.

We were at a camp some 10 years ago.  We were walking back from lunch.  Coach Wimmer of Fishers, had a meeting w/ his offensive skill players.  Coach DD and I stopped to listen.  As we continued to walk, he began telling me Wimmer's excellence w/ TE play.  Really breaking it down.

All I can tell you is, after that 5 minute conversation, I was ready to pad up and run through a wall for that guy.

The guy can flat out coach.  LOVED playing against his BD teams from 93-95.

I didn't know you guys played in '93. Knew about the '94 and '95 games. How did the hold your '93 offense to 3 points? Wow. Did you guys click late in the season. I know you lost to Portage in week 1 and murdered us in Regionals.

Yes Sir.  4 year contract.  I graduated in 96.  I was 0-3.  I was the QB in 94 (@LC) and 95 (@BD).

We moved our OL around from the beginning of the year.  A bunch of starters on the OL were seniors/juniors.  After the switch, we went to 3 sophomores.  We just clicked and got on a roll.

Opening play @LC game 1 vs. Portage.  P kicks off to LC.  We ran a trick play...a throwback on the KO.  Portage stayed in their lanes.  Pick 6.  We were down 6-0 after 4-5 seconds.  Whoops.  LOL

McWhirter was a tough back.

@Bobrefon the game???

That's the gist of it.

Coach D is the best storyteller.

When Coach D retired, I sat down with him to do a 30 minute interview. After 57 minutes, he had to go. He talked about his career in coaching, and he talked about what brought him to BD. He wanted to get back into high school coaching, and he'd been back from West Point only a few days with Dr. James Mifflin, the principal at BD, contacted him about their coaching opening. Coach D remembered playing BD in 1977 in the Sectional and how they drubbed him. He said he knew that BD was a sleeping Giant. He came, chatted, and secured the job.

First two years, he went 8-11. It went much better after that.

I was a student at IUPUI, and he was a guest speaker in one of my classes. He could have gone on for hours. It was a great class. He did mention that when he met with the Principal, AD and Superintendent, they asked what he needed. He said we need to go visit Chuck Stephens at Franklin Central. They had recently been a State champion 3 years in a row. They looked at the weight room, and saw that he was actually teaching a class and DD looked at his administrators and said THAT is what we need. They did not even blink and said done. The rest is history.
And his fee for that day? A large bag of popcorn from the concession stand at the Natatorium. To this day, he goes out of his way to say hello, and ask how I am doing....and I was a senior at WC his first year and BD. I can only imagine how well he treats people he likes. 😃

He treated the janitor the same way. I can only imagine the number of people he has touched in a positive way in his life. I never forgot how he treated me, a 17 year old kid who didn't even go to his school.

Our head coach and Dullaghan were NOT friends at all. We were only ranked 3rd or 4th going into that game.....the ONLY time I ever heard Coach Stauffer come close to swearing.......we are going to prove to everyone we are the best damn team in the State. Final score was WC 61 BD 8.....and we did not let up.

I definitely remember seeing that game in the BD/Warren series highlights. That was Coach D's first year at BD. Interestingly, 1984 is the only year Warren and BD did not play in the regular season since 1937.

That was a regular season game though. It was my senior year, and was the last game of the season.

The regular season was still 10 games in 84. There were just 4 playoff games then as well. Our sectional game was against Washington, Regional was against North Central, Semi State was against Martinsville, and we played Hobart for the State Championship.

OK, that makes sense. And the all in didn't come until 1985.

Correct...I may have forgotten a LOT of things over the years, but my senior season ain't one of em. 🙂

Sorry! It actually solves a mystery for me because it didn't seem reasonable that BD would drop Warren for one year and pick them up again. I mean, they've played EVERY year since 1937.

Plus, if they dropped them, it would seem to be a two year deal. Home & Away then picking up again after. Just seemed weird.
