5A Semistate - New Albany @ Cathedral Nov 19th (@ Tech)

Recommended Posts

It's almost game time and thank God!  It'll be good to get to the game and leave the peripheral things to others.

I hope to see a lot of Irish fans in the Tech stands tonight.  The sun is shining and it's cold, which mean that's playoff weather.  Dress warm and bring your loud voices.

Irish win 52-13

Irish junior Carson Johnson rushed for 232 yards in the first half.  No Irish starter played in the 2nd half.

Looks like Zionsville vs. Cathedral in the 5A final next Friday at LOS.  Game time estimate 7PM.  Can't seem to get any scores on the Harrell site tonight.

The Irish need to get better offensively. Won't effect this game in particular. They will likely win this game. They have to get better if they want to beat Michigan City or Zionsville come Thanksgiving weekend.  Defense looks good but offense needs to get better. Just an outside prospective

I think the Irish offense rebounded quite nicely this week lol. But that DEFENSE… 😮…

Any updated thoughts now?

Yes they did, and they have had the potential and have shown it at times through the year. When I said get better it wasn't about QB play or running the ball etc. It was about mental focus (no dumb penalties that put you behind the sticks, not missing assignments, blitz pick-up, not holding onto the ball, etc etc) Just the mental focus.

Wasn't a dig on anyone just if you want to be the best the mental focus has to be there. At times they have shown that 100%, other times they have had a lapse in that. They will be fine.

Zionsville will present some challenges (much more than New Albany did) I would say behind Center Grove, Westfield, and Brownsburg that Zionsville will be one of the Irish's toughest tests. I would place New Palestine right behind Zionsville (DC defensively but they had struggles offensively when they had to put Tracy at QB due to injury of their QB).

One stat jumps out to me

Irish had 2 penalties for 15 yards.  I THINK this is a three-year game low?

Way to go Carson Johnson, so proud of that kid.

That is one of the improvements I felt needed (with my comment of getting better). Having that type of performance (focus and discipline) makes them a much better team.
