Guest
Class 3A North Semi State Game Preview Brebeuf Jesuit 11-2 at Mishawaka Marian 10-3 Q&A with Marian Head Coach Michael Davidson Question 1 Congratulations on reaching the final four Coach to you, staff and team. Coming off your regional win last week, how is your team handling its success at this late point in the season and what is their collective mindset as you begin game prep for Friday's semi state contest? Response Our guys have had a great head on their shoulders for the past 6+ weeks. Going back to our last loss (week 6 vs Penn), our guys have had a great focus and energy about them every day. Their mindset after Friday and throughout this week has been one with great intent, focus, and energy. They have gone into each week with the expectation to win but also a focus on what it takes to win. Question 2 Looking at game film of your opponent this week, what are their primary areas of strength and who are some of the playmakers that your defense will need to neutralize in order stay in the game and put your team in position to win? Response Brebeuf has a great QB with great weapons all around him and great protection up front. We're going to have to find a way to make him uncomfortable both by mixing up coverages and by trying to get pressure on him. We must limit their WR's big play ability. Question 3 How does your base offensive package match up with the personnel they will be countering with on the defensive side of the football? Response We have our hands full with their defensive line and their speed in the secondary is second to none. We'll have to have our best game up front protecting our QB and also establishing the line of scrimmage in the run game just to have a chance. Question 4 At this point in the season, teams are generally very evenly matched relative to speed, size and skill level. What are some of the intangible elements that need to break your way in order to pave the path for a trip to Lucas Oil Stadium on Thanksgiving weekend? Response Any time you make it this far, mistakes are amplified. We must eliminate penalties and turnovers to move on. In the kick game, we'll need to clean things up and not give anything away (points or a fake). And defensively, regardless of what happens on a particular play we must be relentless on the next as their offense is capable of scoring on any play at any time.
