TigerFan20
Since they discussion has been in the SAC thread. What does everyone think about the SIAC switching to Divisions?
tango
It would require adding at least 2 more conference schools, which I think is very unlikely. I like the idea of having the ability to schedule non-conference opponents, but also know we had trouble finding opponents at various times. tango
MD would object to being stuck with all those teams except GS. Boonville can't compete in the SIAC in any sport except softball and just isn't coming in. MV (who has been suggested) really doesn't add much value. Plus, adding schools limits scheduling flexibility of the top schools in other sports too. Because there are a lot of moving parts, I don't see the ADs adding schools just to tweak a relatively minor, football-only issue.

MD would have 4 open dates to fill and would likely rotate thru the Big Division schools, seeing most regularly. I could see Mater Dei playing their 5 divisional games, 3 BIG crossovers and one traveling non con to Indy.

Alduflux
Harrison is bigger then Memorial. If you put Memorial in the top division for competitive reasons (which I would) then MD should be in the top division also. I don't agree that the SIAC has to expand to go to a division format. They could do that with two divisions of five. There would be plenty of cross division opportunity to fill out schedules. The key is having schedule coordination between divisions. I also don't understand why Boonville or Mt Vernon would be interested in joining the SIAC or why the SIAC would want them. There are other programs that should be targeted to join along with GS. (Admittedly other programs are content with their current set up) Additionally, why did the SIAC expand to begin with? If it was to improve competitive scheduling then having divisions would improve out of conference opportunity. If it was to alleviate scheduling problems then they should leave it as is. Tell me you don’t know Coach Goebel without telling me. The closed conference and zero effort put into football scheduling are not viewed as problems by those who would have the power to change it. The only way the conference will change will be if one of the non-Vanderburgh schools decides to leave.

Now 6 years after expanding to 10 and going to a round robin, they are ready for change.

Surely Reitz and Memorial do not want to lose the gate revenue, so they will gladly schedule MD annually as two of their non divisional games. I know this will come as a complete shock to you....SW Indiana doesn't want our need to schedule "Indy" schools. It's not our charter to help elevate the play of that part of the state. We also don't need the Indy media. We kind of have a really good "pocket" (no pun intended) of football going down here. Go talk to the Region guys...LOL. 4

Just in a parallel universe I'm just a local yokel from podunk southwestern Indiana (and a tranplant from Illinois, at that), so forgive my geographical ignorance for anywheres beyond the dirt road between my tobacco drying barn and Wal-Mart, but I thought Columbus North was located in Columbus, Indiana? Is that the same as Indianapolis, Indiana? I get confused any time I have to travel past the big oak tree that old man Jones planted back in 86 just off the Big Road. That's a quarter mile north of where the Dollar Store is now, if you were wonderin'. At least move your parallel universe north a bit, if not a couple years back. 1
