The SIAC Thread

Castle just beat Vincennes by two TDs and it wasn’t even that close.

I would have Castle at #2 and VL 3.  I can sort of understand how the Knights got bumped coming off a loss while Lincoln won, but we just aren't far enough removed from their match up just 11 days ago.

But I would love to rewind that game and erase the Lincoln fumble right before the half just to see if things played out differently...probably still a VL loss but it certainly would have been closer. Castle just had everything going offensively that night.

I agree. Reitz #1, Castle #2, Lincoln #3 & Memorial #4. Hopefully we can shake that up a little bit this week.

Projected SIAC clinching scenarios (my attempt at an NFL playoff scenarios)

Outright

Reitz 9-0

Reitz 8-1

Reitz 7-2

Shared

Reitz 7-2 + another 7-2 team(s)

Conclusion: Reitz has pretty much got the title in their hands following their win over Castle. A win over Memorial this weekend gives them an Automatic share of the Title, and potentially wins it outright. However, they can lose to Memorial and Mater Dei, but still be abled to lay claim to their first SIAC since 2017(shared or not). If Reitz does somehow lose their next 3 games (including Week 8 against Bosse), this could be a lot interesting, but a very slim chance of happening.

Elimination watch: Memorial, Vincennes, Castle, and Mater Dei

All the 4-2 teams will be looking at Memorial this Friday for their title hopes, in my opinion. A Memorial loss unofficially seals it up

Love the move by Brunson

Move makes zero sense to me. You’re 7-0 and siac champs and finally over .500 as HC at Reitz. They all ain’t gonna be pretty. Enjoy a victory, learn from mistakes and move on. JMO

Probably because Reitz hasn’t been a penalty heavy team for most of the season. Pretty sure they had like 9-11 penalties throughout the game. That is how I understood it

This isn’t the first time that a “bad game” happened to this team. He had to make the point that bad play is not ok. And he did it in a public fashion. I’m ok with it.

Won’t be a popular opinion but the SIAC is a bunch of average teams and 1 above average to good team. Thinking of the top teams over the last few years, I think those teams beat this years top teams pretty handily.

Had the same thought, other than Reitz, it has been an interesting season

Week 6 Observations

Mater Dei took care of business against Bosse and improves 5-2, as a big matchup with Reitz is brewing. Bosse continues to struggle unfortunately.

Harrison wiped the floor with Central last night with a a very strong performance by Deshawn Brown in his first career start at QB. Central looks like they have packed up their bags and looking towards to next season.

Huskies beat Vincennes in a thrilling matchup to gain some momentum heading towards the end of the season, as the Huskies have a decent chance at finishing 6-3. Sounds like Vincennes struggled a bit defending against St. Louis and a few other problems.

How about them Wildcats in Jasper, after almost blowing a 22 point lead in the late 2H and facing an OT game, Jasper ends up winning 43-42 in OT against Castle. Castle had some problems early on, but they did enough to force a very good OT matchup and taking the lead. However, Jasper decided to go for the win and got it. Sounds like this was a very good matchup

Game of the Week

Reitz is the new King of the SIAC, as they secured the SIAC title over Memorial last night. Reitz was very dynamic all around, although they made some mistakes throughout. However, that didn’t bother them whatsoever, as the Swarm Defense was too fast for the Memorial. It was also the Thomas show last night too, as the senior WR/DB had 1 TD and 1 INT, plus a few big gain 3rd down conversions. Now and interesting question arrives for the Panthers, should Vera remain at QB? While my Tigers did lose, I am w surprised that the defense did pretty well holding down Reitz to only 3 offensive TDs, and forcing 3 turnovers. Offensively, Memorial was all over the place, and not scoring within the 25 yard line twice towards the end really hurt their chances. But when you play the #1 team in the SIAC that will happen, I do think Memorial will be fine overall, as a potential sectional matchup is being anticipated!
