HHF Week 1 Spotlite Games
**********************************
With Week 1 just ten weeks out, its not too soon to take a look at some key matchups to open up the 2022 Indiana High School Football Season
Below are several good matchups to keep an eye on :

Elkhart at Concord
New Elkhart head coach Romison St Louis makes his debut with the Lions against the very solid Concord team from the Northern Lakes Conference. Key opening contest for Elkhart to see what direction the new staff will take this rising program.

Evansville Memorial at Jasper
Huge week 1 matchup between SIAC favorites. Jasper still smarting from last year's first round playoff exit after ripping through a 9 and 0 conference slate. Memorial returns several D1 level players.

Greenfield Central at Plainfield
Travis Nolting has been building the GC program to this point and will have his biggest, deepest, strongest and fastest roster since arriving four seasons ago. Brian Woodard enters his final season at Plainfield and the Quakers will contend in the Mid-State Conference with speed to burn and several talented offensive athletes

Hamilton Southeastern at Lawrence Central
Key HCC-MIC matchup featuring an HSE team that will challenge Westfield for top honors in the HCC and a Lawrence Central outfit that features one of the states most dynamic players in Defensive End Josh Mickens.

Andrean at Merrillville
Neighborhood rivals clash featuring the state's top player Drayk Bowen of Andrean, and elite D1 prospect Justin Marshall of Merrillville. Pirates depth and overall physicality have helped them dominate this series recently. Bowen will need to be the difference maker to get the Niners over the top

Brownsburg at Ben Davis
With Center Grove finally out of the way, Brownsburg may now have a path to the 6A state championship as the Bulldogs have a deep and solid team with an experienced quarterback and several D1 prospects. Giants will again be talented and will keep it close

Carol at Fort Wayne Bishop Luers
Lures is loaded and a solid 2A favorite from the north. Caroll needs to win this game and do what it is supposed to do as a 6A School playing at 2A School, public or private.

Castle at Evansville North
The focus will be on Joey Paridaen's North Huskies who have been building for the past several years and have a big, deep roster and are ready to make a move towards the top of the SIAC. Castle is a conference blue blood and won't roll over easily.

Columbus North at Decatur Central
DC is a 5A State title contender with Cathedral finally out of the way and up in 6A. The Logan Haston era begins at Columbus North and the Bulldogs will be looking to make a very strong first impression.

Harrison at West Lafayette
Big test for a big and strong Harrison team that intends to make a push towards the top of 5A this season. Coach Terry Peebles will have his biggest and deepest roster since he arrived at Harrison. WLF will reload and continue to be the 3A school that plays 6A football week after week.

Cathedral at Lafayette Jeff
Another Lafayette school in the spotlight as Jeff gets a chance to show a statewide audience what it can do against the 2 time defending 5A state champs. Cathedral will roll out another powerful roster and feature the states top QB prospect in Junior Danny ONeil.

Chatard at Brebeuf
The Trojans drop back down to 3A while the Braves step up to 4A in a big week 1 PP clash . Big test for Brebeuf to see if its program has risen to the excellence and consistency levels that Chatard displays every season.

Kokomo at Leo
Kokomo drops down to 4A and becomes an immediate state title contender under Austin Colby. Former Northrop HC Jason Doerffler takes over at Leo after Jared Sauder stepped down after 13 seasons and will be looking to take the Lions deeper into the state tournament. Great week one matchup!

Mt Vernon and Noblesville
The Marauders will hit the field for the first time as defending state champs, and despite several big holes to fill left by graduation, Vince Lidy has big numbers and plenty of talent to make another run this fall. Noblesville has 3 D1 offensive linemen and a stable of quick and elusive running backs returning in what will be a pivotal season for HC Dave Sharpe's program.

Lowell at Crown Point
Expectations are rising as Craig Buzea enters his second season at Crown Point. Buzea was hired to lead the program to DAC titles and state playoff runs, simple as that. 4A Lowell is a formidable opponent and this rivalry, the state's longest, always produces a low scoring dog fight.

Rensselaer at Kankakee Valley
Former Lowell HC Kirk Kennedy returns to Northwest Indiana as the head honcho at KV, and excitement for Kougar football is at an all time high given Kennedy's state title pedigree. The Bombers hold their own in this 2A-4A rivalry, and Chris Meek's team always comes to play, especially when the Cracker Barrel is on the line.

Delta at Muncie Central
Delta debuts as a 3A program and Chris Overholt has a team that can challenge in the post season. New Coach Kyle Padgett will hit the field with his Bearcats for the first time in a major rebuild that should happen quickly and decisively for MC. These two will likely be conference opponents in the not too distant future.

Warren Central at Center Grove
Not too long ago this was the marquee matchup in the state. WC just announced it is dropping CG from its schedule after completion of its MIC commitments. CG getting backed into a corner recently. Booted by The MIC. Turned down by the HCC. Dropped over the past several years by Whiteland, Decatur Central, Roncalli and now Warren. No wonder the CG AD decided to head back to the farm.

Knox at Winamac
Russ Radtke has not had his usual success since taking over at Knox. Josh Burgess debuts as the new HC at Winamac. Both schools have their sites set on a run at the HNAC title, along with Triton, Pioneer, LaVille and North Judson in what should be one of the states best conference races.

Linton Stockton at Parke Heritage
Brian Oliver's Miner Machine keeps grinding out wins (91-22 in 10 years at LS) and Dan Rector takes over at PH following the departure of Brian Moore, who built the program into a 1A contender over the past 4 seasons, including a 10-3 mark in 2021.

“With Center Grove finally out of the way.”

LOL.

Once again, a bit premature?

As always, I’ll keep receipts until November.

Mater Dei was the 2A runner ups last year. But Jasper vs Memorial is going to be a great game in 2 months!

Why doesn't the edit function allow me to re-enter this thread and correct the memorial error?

This one has just been announced that it will take place on the big stage at LOS in Week 1.  This year provides a unique opportunity for Harrison to face all of the Lafayette area schools:  Jeff and McCutcheon as part of the NCC, West Lafayette to start officially, and LCC the week before West Lafayette for scrimmage.

If you are a FAN...Arrive Early!

This thing could be done in an hour!  Coach Doerffler may need a year or so to fully apply his 'system' to Leo...

3 Yards and a cloud of dust!  Woody Hayes might like this matchup.  😐

Good test for Carroll right out of the gate. This will be the battle of co-conference champions. The Chargers will be pretty jacked up in wanting to avenge their loss to the Knights last season.  Was Carroll just a one year wonder last year? Or has Dinan's program taken that next step? You get the feeling that this team is right on the cusp. Luers will be ready, that we know.

Obviously biased here - but the Michigan City at Warsaw game should be a good one to start the season after it has been moved up from the second week slot. This is the 4th game of the series, with the Wolves holding a 2-1 edge.

Michigan City will look to start strong in their follow up to a semi-state run in 5A last year, while Warsaw has high expectations going into this season bringing back a lot of experience on both sides of the ball, including their QB, which is vital in the Bart Ball offense.

I think Liptons will kick The Woofs ass, I swear to God I do.

Why did Coach Moore leave PH?

The public reason is to coach with his son Scott at North Putnams. There’s also rumors that The Woofs fans and admin thought they’d get farther in the tournament than they did and are disappointed they didn’t.
