Guest
Im really surprised to see a guy like UC Head Coach Luke Fickel allowing this kind of glorification of high school athletes during the recruiting process. The photo sessions and posing and self aggrandizement are just way over the top in the current environment.

tango
I agree 100% HHF. The smell permeates nearly every level of sport.

Titan32
It's pushing these kids to be type of player they don't want them to be down the line....just dumb.

So @HHFis this player-driven or bro-coach driven? (Of which Luke Fickell would be a prime example.)

Social media provides the platform for these kids to profess to the world "how blessed they are to be honored with a scholarship offer from Southwest Technical State College of the Ozarks" At this level, does anybody really care outside of the kids immediate family and maybe a few teammates and friends? Some of these coaches are pretty smart guys. What I don’t understand is how anyone with half a brain can’t see what sort of attitude this treatment breeds. Combine this with promises of NIL deals and you are making it very difficult for these impressionable 18 yr. olds to avoid an entitlement mentality. The result is that the concept of “team” is lost. Football is the most demanding sport in terms of teamwork leading to success. @temptation’s observation above expresses it succinctly. That attitude is absolute poison in a program. It’s a pretty tough sell to get a kid to embrace the attitude that he’s a cog in the big machine, when everything else you’re saying and doing tells the kid the opposite.
