Butler Basketball

Watching the Butler/Xavier game and the Bulldogs are getting whipped 29-11 on their home floor. Xaiver's leading scorer is from Indy averaging 19.2 point per game. Another player from Indy, a freshman sporting the number 1 jersey, averages 5 points. Butler has one kid from Indianapolis. So my question is............where is the loyalty? Why do our best kids choose to represent other states? Do our kids not realize that there is enough talent in our state for Butler, Indiana, Notre Dame, and Purdue to be the best four teams in the country? They just need to stay home. A marquee player from Fort Wayne chose Louisville last year..............sad.

Like eliminating turnovers and defense Archie Miller at Indiana understand this is one thing that ultimately lead to the demise of Tom Crean. IU has two kids coming from in-state in next years class and what I believe is a true 50/50 shot at Langford he also brought in Ed Schilling as an assistant the guy who got Kris Wiliks to go all the way out to Southern Cali for school. Purdue has went after these kids as well and gets them from time to time but outside of Swanigan is lacking as well. ND will always be more of a FB school but I still think Mike Brey might be top 5 best coaches in the nation so he can recruit from anywhere and be just fine. As for Butler they have a short pool of kids to choose from, they will never really stand a shot at the 5-stars why? I dont have the answer maybe its just the never Mid-Major underdog feel Butler has turns off the 4/5 star in state kids? who knows , Butler also has to deal with the academic standards that will turn some kids off.

I totally agree with you too many talented players are leaving the state I understand that programs like MSU, UK and U of L are gonna get the once in a every couple of years 5 star guys like (Gary Harris and Trey Lyles) but guys like Trevon Blueitt and Bryant McIntosh should have never gotten out of the state of Indiana it is sad I think AAU gets kids more exposure to programs outside of the state is a big part of it as well. Hopefully New guys like Miller and Jordan and change that for the new program and Purdue can ride this wave of success and continue to strengthen its in state recruiting. No doubt all 4 teams should be NCAA tourney teams every year with Multiple kids from the State of IN

Wow. As a member of the Big East and two finals appearances in the last decade, I would think the "Mid-Major" feel would have been long gone.

So how did Blueitt end up leaving the state?

Article from Inside the Hall in 2014..........."At last weekend’s Hensley Memorial Spiece Run-N-Slam Classic in Fort Wayne, Bluiett listed Butler, Michigan, Indiana, Purdue, Depaul and Cincinnati as the schools that he felt had made him a priority, in that order." So if Butler, from the city he grew up in, showed him the MOST interest, how in the heck did he end up at Xavier? And to add insult to injury, he defeats his hometown team and puts his index finger over his lips to hush the crowd. That was absolutely pathetic and shows the kid has no class whatsoever. I wish there was a way for the City of Indianapolis to ban him from entering the city ever again.

IMO, Butler is the most attractive place in the State of Indiana to play basketball, followed close behind by Notre Dame. Those two programs not only offer a good education, but also consistency in the win column. Indiana and Purdue? The names speak for themselves. So our state is represented by the Big East, ACC, and the Big Ten. The three best basketball conferences in the country. Yet a kid from Indiana can't seem to find a school in his home state good enough to attend.

Butler offers a good education. A winning tradition. Hinkle Fieldhouse. And a pretty cool city that has a lot to offer. Yet our state's best athletes prefer to go elsewhere. Butler's coaches use them as a launching pad to coach at Ohio State. Butler should be a destination school for a coach and a top consideration for a player. There's something about "The Butler Way." It developes both coaches and players.
