40% of the state has turf. I have accounted for all but 6 schools in the state of Indiana (Attucks, Fremont, Prairie Heights, Eastside, Tindley, and Shortridge). 11 schools don't have their own field, so they were thrown out of the equation all together. (Ev Memorial, Cathedral, Ev Mater Dei, Covenant Christian, SB Wash, FW Snider, Chatard, Ritter, Luers, Boone Grove, Scecina)

97% of 6A turf

72% of 5A turf

58% of 4A turf

28% of 3A turf

21% of 2A turf

8% of 1A turf

122/302 schools overall.

Ritter uses Marian University as it's home field, it is turf. I believe they have a long term deal and barring MU making the jump to D1, I don't see them playing on a Friday night any time soon.

Not their field though. I've actually watched a Ritter game at Marian before. Solid venue.

I googled it and maybe I just saw the soccer field was turf. Odd.

Correct.  Their Lacrosse/Soccer Field has turf, but the football field is Bermuda Grass.  Absolutely beautifully maintained grass, I might add.  Looks just like turf on film.

I hadn't seen the field. Gf just got confused about which field there was turf. Thanks for the help.

It would be a lot better if we could siphon money off the tax payers like the government schools.

Dwenger is getting theirs built without the aforementioned “siphoning.”

Also, Prairie Hts, Fremont, and Eastside are all grass surfaces.

I have a question, observed this thread since it's inception. Like the graph and the info, very interesting. The original post said it was for a discussion point. What was the point? Pro-turf vs. Pro Grass? Turf injuries vs. Grass injuries? What are we discussing? 6A can afford turf better than 1A? Just wondering. Not being negative, just as a fan wondering how we will use this info or is it something that is of value as a coach?

He is trying to convince his school board to get turf.

Other than that it was out of my own curiosity.

This is exactly why I posed the first question! We are trying to convince our school corp, and School board, as to why we want/need To move to an artificial surface!

Thank you, now I understand. Again it has been interesting to follow your research and development. Best of luck with your endeavor.

I've been privy to some of the numbers of doing this. My opinion is you can't justify the initial cash outlay.  Consider it a capital improvement, much like renovating/new construction of a facility. Once it is installed, maintenance/replacement is justifiable. From what we have seen from early adopters, the surface itself will last 10-12 years. With the cost associated with surface replacement it is cost effective if you're spending anything at all in maintenance on your grass surface.

Those are all the places I've been for football or track or driven past in the last year. So those are all I can confirm. Oh, and Pioneer is grass....the reason we had to play the semi-state 2 years ago at Logan instead of Pioneer...not that it mattered LOL

Pioneer plays in a swamp.
