Gibson Southern (8-0) at Boonville (6-2)

Recommended Posts

This will be the 31st meeting of these two teams since the consolidation of Fort Branch, Haubstadt and Owensville High Schools in 1974.  Boonville leads the all time series 17-13, but has never defeated Gibson Southern in the six meetings during the Coach Hart era.  Both teams are undefeated in PAC Big School conference play, thus the game at Boonville on Friday night will be for the PAC Big School conference championship.  Boonville's two loses are to 3A (7-1) Southridge and 2A (8-0) Linton-Stockton.

I believe its gonna be a dog fight to the end.  I wouldn't be sleeping on them.

As bad as Boonville would like to win this game, especially on Senior night (at Boonville, right?) I highly suspect this will be at least a 3 score game.  Boonville's QB is very good, but Coach Hart will shut him down.

This will be one of the scores I will look up tonight and if it is a running clock, it won't be much of a surprise.  That is probably why it has gotten so little press.  This is in no way to be offensive toward Boonville....they are a pretty good team.  GS is in a different place.  A game that would get some press?  Gibson Southern and Reitz.  That is a game that many would like to see.

Idk.  I expect GS to win but I just don’t know what to think of Boonville.  I think they are better than what many think….but GS’s defense is also playing so damn good.

this isn’t to take anything away from the offense as the offense is amazing…but this defense might honestly be better which I think would be a first under Hart.

outside of that….sectional draws definitely take away a lot of attention.

my prediction is 28-17 GS

this halftime box score is kind wild to me.  Gs has been in 3rd down 11 times….they have ran 53 plays…18 first downs….that’s like an entire game.

outside of the last td where roberts went 71 yards for the score, Boonville is giving them an absolute game and making them earn everything.

19 3rd down attempts…7 4th down attempts…..

61 rush attempts?!?!?!? 400 yards rushing from GS?

Whatever way is needed to get the job done. PAC Champs!

This game was, uh, interesting to watch. BV scored 14 points and had a kajillion and seven rushing yard average in, like, 3.9 nanoseconds. And and then... basically nothing. Spurts here and there. Admittedly, my butt was starting to get puckered tighter than a snare drum after that second one. But the boys appeared more or less unphased. They came out the next drive, buckled down, and TCOB from 3.9 nanoseconds on.

Whatever game plan BV had on those first two plays 👏 👏 👏

Not sure what they had planned from third down on, but a top notch start.

I saw on Twitter that after the first 2 plays for Boonville, they were held to 155 yards the rest of the game.

I feel like this year there has been a number of games where the opposing team scores first and it’s a good battle in the first half…then the 2nd half comes and GS has made all the right adjustments and the players just take it to another level.

I was gonna buy one, but no #IB ... What gives?

Your son can get that NIL money now, right? Can he and Coach H sign one for me?

Should have snuck an IB into that design!

GS is on another level in developing 1 way players in the PAC. Being a part of a winning program is commendable. 2 platooning at any level requires depth. GS has that. The best player on the field was Boonville’s Clay Conner. Never left the field O, D or special teams. Several tackles, INT, 90 yd run for TD.
24-21 had it interesting in the 2nd half. Boonville wore down end of 2nd and the 4th.

I feel like the playing 2 ways thing is a little overblown sometimes.  GS does have players playing both ways at times…I mean Delong has been playing in all 3 phases of the game all year just like his older brothers did

Tbh….I don’t understand how other teams can have 50+ kids on the team but still start 6 of them on both sides.

It’s one thing when you have a talented kid who rises above the rest and earns other roles because of how great they are…and it’s something else when players don’t step up and coaches are forced to play the same handful of kids both ways because that handful of kids are the only ones giving their best effort

The Conner kid is a very nice athlete, but at the end of the day they rode him too hard (in this old dudes humble opinion) and always fell back to him in literally EVERY key situation (they have other kids very capable).  It would have been nice to see them design something for him other than...."drop back and take off".  I felt bad for him by the third quarter, he looked very very beat up and was getting less and less effective at that point.

Went through and looked at the play by play on digital scout and found this pretty interesting

-Boonville ran 39 plays

-the first 2 plays went for 174 yards and 2TDs

-Kyle Sokeland reported that the next 37 plays went for 155 yards total.

-of those 37 plays….10 of them were either a sack or TFL. Another 8 were either a run for no gain or incomplete pass.

- 18/37 ≈ 49%….so basically after the first 2 plays, it was a 50/50 chance than Boonville had a positive play…and that’s without factoring in penalties/turnovers/fumbles.

it was certainly a great start for Boonville but looking deeper into it….titans defense pulled it together quickly and went back to doing what they have been doing all year.
