Yep… and just like the Finals, Ticketmaster got their hands in at the casino too…crazy what TM gets away with…maybe the Taylor Swift debacle gonna tame the TM beast for awhile? Time will tell…

Yeah, back then we would just hop in the VW and drive to Karma Records or The Stone Balloon in Broad Ripple to get our tickets and accessories. No Ticketmaster fees.

That must have been some type of Festival. Or not in Indiana. Tickets jumped from the $7 range in '79 and '80 to around $11 in 1981 here it appears just from a quick perusal of my stubs.

As ticket prices spiral out of control, touring is in many cases the main revenue stream they have.
My wife and I were discussing the expense of a stadium show as we were waiting for what seemed like hours trying to get out of the Stones show in Nashville last fall. Side note mad props to Indy on their ability to move people out of large venues. At any rate given the costs that have to be involved, coordinating between multiple agencies and local government, not to mention crew, security, staff, rent, etc. I’m sure the bill to the acts is immense, thus huge ticket prices. And if you’re mega stars, your tickets will command 35K a seat. Hell I paid 400 bucks for my son and I to see Bob Dylan last fall at IU Auditorium…..AND IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!

I don’t begrudge Taylor Swift making a gazillion dollars on a tour, where I struggle with this mess is the grift that happens once the tickets are sold. The system is set up to favor a select few who then game the system to make themselves rich without adding any value to the transaction. I want to see that 12 year old kid get a ticket, be exposed to the art, perhaps it sparks something, perhaps it’s just something to bring a smile and shake your ass, either way that’s what live music is about for me. What ultimately happens is that 12 year old is denied access and for me is the real tragedy.

TM also went to "dynamic pricing". Basically, the higher the demand for tickets, the more they charge. They say it's to eliminate the touts (aka scalpers and reselling services). What that means is they are now doing the exact same thing those people do. Maybe we can get to a point where TM is shown to be a monopoly and has to break up. That said, venues and artists can help control this. Ford Field does not use TM. Artists can set their ticket prices as well, but most just leave it up to Live Nation to schedule dates and set prices.

Finding non-TM venues is rare.

Yes, it was something called the Texxas Jam aka the Texas World Music Festival.  Pretty cool shows and well worth the money.  Went one year when Ted Nugent, Triumph, and Sammy Hagar were there and, during Hagar's set, Emmett from Triumph and Nugent came back out on stage and played Zep's Rock and Roll.

I only attended when the shows were in Houston as they held them in the Astrodome which made all the difference in the world vs. the Dallas shows which tended to be outdoors in the Cotton Bowl in the summer in Texas.

I recall ticket prices being much less in the late-70s when I started attending concerts.  I think Boston was around $10 on the Don't Look Back Tour in 78/79.

Ahhh ... the days when a trip to a record store actually meant something ... and the fact that they also sold concert tickets made it even more special!

If the policy at LOS for this weekend is the same as the large band competitions walk up sales still had to submit the Ticketmaster fees!  Heck of a deal, show up in person and still get charged.  I had to rethink the process this year and makes me wonder how much the rebate is that Ticketmaster gives back to the venue.  And the best part was only the North gates were used for some of the events meaning a nice stroll past Payton after you had your e ticket.

Be safe traveling to all.

Anyone know the parking fee for this year? Is that cash only or debit/credit? I know inside the stadium is no cash.

Don't recall the amount, but I think I paid cash earlier in the season at LOS parking for the Harrison-West Lafayette game.

Should be between $15 - $30 cash depending on proximity to the stadium for lots manned with the obligatory flag person.  The garages may accept cards as well.

You know who owns Ticketmaster right?

I was aware of the merger, a quick perusal of several online articles leaves me feeling like I need a shower.
Once again I don’t begrudge the acts getting everything they can, but we’re ALL (acts, venues, and ticket buying public) being held hostage by a monopoly that has been allowed by the FTC. TM and LN have bought, begged, and stolen the competition.

Yes...but how much did the parachute pants cost?

That sounds like a pretty dang good show!!  Saw all of those bands separately except for Foghat.  REO and Heart a number of times.  Always front row seats for Heart and Nancy Wilson back in the day......😉

I never owned a pair of parachute pants or Zubaz, but will admit to a couple of pair of Jams shorts.
I can recall when tix hit $20, I thought the world was ending.

Grew up in Texas and was an officer in FFA.  My fellow Future Farmers barely tolerated my album-rock tendencies, but parachute pants would have killed my barnyard creds.

Saw REO winter of 77/78 for $1.02 courtesy of Louisville WLRS 102 concerts.   They were celebrating their first gold record.

You can't beat Gary Richrath for blue collar guitar work.

The way I remember, they played for over 2 hours because they found out the day before they scored their first gold.  Think they get a local band to open sice it was pretty much a free concert.

A lot of good music came out of the Champaign/Chicago/Detroit arc.  My first concert was KISS in 1976, and I was introduced to Bob Seger music that night, he opened for them.
