IU Transfer portal (exiting) 2023

Who was the idiot who decided that transferring without penalty was a good thing? This is turning into an absolute joke.

The word 'commitment' has no meaning anymore. If a kid decides to leave, he/she should have to pay back the university what they originally saved in scholarship money.

@BTF  Now, apply that same logic for ya know, Position and Head Coaches who these players decide to entrust them who were supposedly committed to them, where is that penalty?

This lid was blown off long ago, adapt or die NCAA, some would argue NCAA been dead for decades

I hear your argument coach....not sure if its an absolute ideal comparison.  Is it identical between a professional and a student?  Perhaps there should be more accountability for coaches that don't honor their contracts.  No one made them sign longer term deals with guarantees.  It is an interesting discussion.

Transfer portal and NIL has made college sports more of a minor league system than it was before.  Is that truly better for the sport?

NIL and the portal is making it so much harder on the military academies to compete....and they were already at an extreme disadvantage due to admission requirements.

It's a mess, I get it. But you have to draw the line somewhere. It's just out of control.

Nil and transfer portal are leveling the playing field

and you are correct the word commitment means nothing, it never had meaning and will continue to have no meaning

Not sure what coach said but he loved when players committed because he said he knew who his competition was

College sports have always been minor league system, in year 2022, the choice has been made clear they are being compensated with more than just Room and Board and Degrees.

Now, I will wholeheartedly agree the roll out of the ERA of NIL has been very short sighted by the NCAA and they had plenty of years to get ready for this, which SHOULD of been DAY 1 of the Ed O'Bannon lawsuit when filed, but perhaps the hubris of the NCAA probably thought they would not lose that case in court and then here we are, Wild Wild West as they say.

Believe it or not, some organizations actually work out contingency plans in advance, in case Plan A doesn’t pan out. Apparently, that concept is foreign to the NCAA.

Most organizational disasters are not the result of a plan failing, but rather of failing to plan.

Looks like former IU player Dasan McCullough lands with his brother Daeh in Norman, OK.  Surprises me a little...thought at least one of the boys would end up with Dad at ND.

It's not the same thing, at all. I mean, do they transfer when their professors take new jobs? Because they are committing to be a STUDENT-athlete. There is a hierarchy in life... 18 year olds are at the bottom. Comparing the coaches and players never made sense.

STOP IT

You telling me that IU players are committing to the academics of IU before Tom Allen and the program?   For some, academics could be a deciding factor between 2 different schools if they feel that football fits are equal, but to draw the parallelism of professors leaving is comical.

Its ok that players have a choice in the matter, if you don't want your players to transfer, then give them a reason not to.   if they do then maybe you recruited the wrong player
