Yes, I believe I should have a say in how my tax dollars are spent.  Unlike you I don't blindly trust the government.

I wasn't raised in a household under a privileged union umbrella of artificially high wages, Cadillac insurance plans and pensions, but I'm opposed to taxpayer money being used on a soccer stadium also. Indy just isn't going to support soccer enough to get any return on this investment.

And you probably weren't raised in a household where between around 1977-1984 my father would go to work every day not knowing whether or not himself and others would be laid off and out of job by the end of the day, primarily due to company mismanagement.    Or forced by that same union to take a pay cut during those lean years in order to help keep the plant open.

And your obvious sour grapes concerning "Cadillac" insurance plans and pensions is duly noted.  If you want a real "Cadillac" insurance and pension plan you need to look at what retirees from the Teamsters get.   No, the UAW has been gutting it's members pension and insurance plans for decades.  They are not what they used to be.

Not sure how you jump to extremes about trusting govt.  People can desire city improvements being sometimes led by local governments without "blindly trusting government".  Hard to have good dialogue with extreme comments and stereotyping.

Help me again to understand on this proposed cityof Indianapolis project how YOUR tax dollars are being spent......

I don't think it's a matter of right or wrong. I think it's a matter of do you want the investment in your city or the one next door. These venues provide a massive amount of entertainment for family and friends.

Sure, that investment is great. If it is private investment

My tax dollars?  It probably won't effect them.  But it will possibly effect the tax dollars of friends and family living in or around Indianapolis.   And they need to be educated on the long term consequences of such government largesse.  That they, their children, and their grandchildren will be paying for it for the rest of their lives.   Heck, it was previously stated that taxpayers are still paying for the Hoosier Dome.  Doesn't that raise warning bells for anyone?

Thank you for your honesty....

Your friends are indeed fortunate to have you doing their thinking for them.  Shame they must lack the ability to educate themselves and draw their own conclusions

Because when it comes to government it is the logical and correct view.

Government has no business building football stadiums, or upscale apartment complexes, or shopping areas, etc.   Period.

That is certainly a view that you've developed.  There are many views on what a government should and shouldn't be.  What a religious system should and shouldn't be.  What an education system should and shouldn't be.  Insert choice in there where you'd like.  You're a product of where you come from.

Grow up. Sorry that you obviously have no family or friends. Or least none that will listen to you. Echo chamber and navel gazing to the max.

I googled this and nothing came up. Is this your idea? The first of it's kind? What size venue are you thinking for this?

Somebody's angry.....(sorry, stole that line from you)

So I obviously have no family or friends.  Nah...that's not true.  I am blessed with great family and friends.  Perhaps, I just don't feel like I have an obligation to "educate them" with my own personal views.  Big difference.

Do you think anyone is truly listening to you??  On GID?

You don't find it a tad interesting that you feel obligated to share personal views, when you aren't required or even asked to donate a red cent or an second of your time for an investment??  Yet, you have "friends" that value your opinions anyway?  It may be worth some time to self-reflect and seek some feedback to ensure your views are indeed valued.

What if I told you that I’m just less libertarian than you? I haven’t voted left or right in years…but the idea some libertarians have that you can just cut off all taxes and government overhead and things will run smoothly is foolish.

I have no problems with local/state governments using taxpayer dollars to better their communities.

Hilarious that I’ve let you go this far calling me essentially some socialist liberal when that’s not the case at all. Im more of a centrist who is opposed to federal government overreach on individual liberties than anything.  If a local community wants to use taxes to make the lives of their community more enjoyable I’m all for it.

you just keep making all these assumptions about who I am as a person and it’s the biggest swings and misses.

here you are yelling at a millennial thinking he is some lazy liberal socialist who wants free handouts and yet all you’ve learned about me is far from that 😂😂

I think this is strike 4 by now…you should have stayed in the bullpen before rekindling this argument

This is really ironic coming from the guy who constantly shouts about the latest moral crisis to no one on the OOB forum.

I'm assuming there's a PO Box where we send our investments? 😀

I would say the same of you, but it's clear you choose to live in a de-facto echo chamber, so such feedback would only serve to reinforce your sense of moral superiority.

I have never espoused such an idea here on the GID. The is a place for government in our society, but it should be minimized as much as possible.  And our current government is not minimal in size, scope, and power.
