Boilernation
19 hours ago, Coach Nowlin said: CANNOT WAIT til tomorrow I heard all summer long that the defense was far ahead of the offense and it looked that way today. Williams missed some throws downfied that he should have hit, but he was spot on in the short passing game when given a chance to throw, IMO. Allen dropped a TD on a nice quick throw from CW and the O-Line couldn't handle the pressure from the Titan D. The amount of QB hurry's he received had to have been high. Wouldn't be surpised to hear the C and Nate "I don't practice" Davis being the ones abused the most. And please, please, let that have been the LAST time Verdell Jones is ever sent back to return a kick. Not only did he dropped a return again, but he managed to kick the ball up field nearly 15 yards to the kickoff team. Unreal. Defense was spectacular. The pickup from Seattle practically lived in the Tennesee backfield today. Loved seeing Gervon Dexter beat 2 OL to get a sack. He worked out with the DE's over the summer. Nice to see Jalen Johnson with the game deciding INT. He was paid well in the offseason.
Coach Nowlin
it was fun just watching Jalen Johnson work from the stadium, picking up things TV doesn't it was outstanding I chose to wore my Peanut Tillman jersey vs my Forte and/or Rome jersey.......KNEW it was going to be DEFENSE who led the way early in this season, rightfully so. 1-0 and finally, good teams win, GREAT TEAMS COVER !!! LETS GO !!! looking forward to rewatching it tonight on TV

Coach Nowlin
Dust settled and rewatching game last night: In no game plan should Everett have more snaps then KMET, of which I want to say I saw he only ran 5 total routes... Top 5 offensive weapons only played 10 total snaps together Keenan Allen HAS to catch that TD MUST ESTABLISH THE RUN, before a million bootlegs #65 is TERRIBLE, however, SIMMONS for TENN is legit dude

This document looks like the high school level, so not sure the focus of level of play regarding this claimed study. Special Teams are one of the most important and overlooked aspect of football gameplan and practice. A study has been done that shows that if a team scores a touchdown on special teams that team will win the game 85 percent of the time. It is our goal to be the very best on special teams that we can. We must be solid in the kicking game so we can score points, flip the field, and have the potential to make big plays. https://coachcompton.weebly.com/special-teams.html

I'm sure the Texans are going to see the way he was abused on tape. Darnell Wright graded out really high. So did Nate Davis, which was a surprise. Maybe because he only played 18 snaps. I love King Poles, but 2 things he did in the offseason irritate me: He had suitors for Velus Jones and refused to trade him for anything less than a 4th. Drafted a Punter in the 4th Round. That could have been immediate OL help. How about the pick 6 Levis threw in the 4th? Talk about a gimme TD. That guy will be holding a clipboard for his career if he keeps making those mistakes. It wasn't even the 1st time in the game that he attempted to be bailed out of a sack with a reckless throw. Coach Nowlin
that punter was being drafted in the 4th round, GLAD it was the BEARS who got him. Concur on JONES, his focus of details vs his extreme athleticism.......DETAILS matter
Boilernation
The Bears could barely attempt a vertical passing game on Sunday because of the OL. The Aussie didn't do anything punting that a FA couldn't do. I know he's a stud, but I would have much rather had help at OL in the 4th. I will politely disagree as I don't see FA punters throwing up 60 yard BOMBS. https://sumersports.com/the-zone/its-okay-to-draft-a-punter/ https://www.the33rdteam.com/case-study-impact-of-special-teams-on-nfl-success/
Coach Nowlin
also: After Taylor was drafted in the 4th, there was 1 OT taken from British Columbia by the Lions, no market for OT 5th round: I GLADLY taken BOOKER that Bears traded back into the 5th for. after pick 144 where they took BOOKER, the following Lineman were taken: Chiefs 159 took Center from Penn St: Took 5 FG/PAT reps Packers 163 took Center from Duke: Took 7 Special Team Snaps Eagles 172 took G from Michigan with Comp Pick (did not take a snap week 1) My point is this, 1 more year of some stop gaps from C/G/G, I think we will be fine there at OT spots and Jenkins is good Guard in my opinion IF REMAINS HEALTHY. But yes CENTER is an issue for sure.

Bash Riprock
interesting article from the AP about passing overall in the NFL week 1. https://apnews.com/article/nfl-quarterbacks-0a1b51e3dc3d77c1f813527becc93268 Kind of an interesting facts about Caleb William's first NFL game in which the writer labeled the Bears game in week 1 as a rare win. Crazy stat about first pick QB's first start loss streak. Joins some pretty good company with Elway. (looking for the positives!!) Rare win The Bears somehow managed to win despite a rough debut for Williams, who went 14 for 29 for 93 yards and didn’t lead the offense on a single TD drive in a 24-17 win over Tennessee. Williams became the first QB picked first overall to win his first career start since David Carr did it for the expansion Houston Texans against Dallas in 2002. No. 1 picks had been 0-14-1 in their first starts since then, with Kyler Murray getting the tie in 2019. Williams’ 93 yards passing were the fewest by a No. 1 pick quarterback who started the opener since John Elway had 14 for Denver against Pittsburgh in 1983. The IOL is a major liability. Maybe it was just a bad matchup against Tennessee's DL, but it's hard for CW to play when the IOL immediately colappses on him. I'm hoping see improved OL play tomorrow night and if the offense put points on the board. I'm sick of watching crappy offense.
Coach Nowlin
Well, we saw how tough Williams is, as he took an absolute beating I wonder how much of the slide protections he was making at the line was his fault vs execution, I mean, every NFL team runs DL Loops and stunts and blitzes ........5 on 5 should not be a sieve........ But at the end of the day, ball with 1:45 left with a chance to win.

Granted it was the Pre-Season, but his accuracy on downfield passes was much sharper. I will NEVER say the Bears should have kept Fields and traded away #1 for the haul. I was in favor of resetting the pay scale on the QB position over keeping someone who still can't throw 200 yards/game in a new offense. But, maybe taking Rome at 9 wasn't the wisest of choices when the OL needed immediate help.

Pre Season: We all should know, Schemes are Vanilla and guys are fighting for jobs, playing against guys #35-85 on the roster. Also, from last night, stats were glaring, CW with just flat out zone defense, was very efficient......Man with Blitz/pressure not so much OL will be addressed in 2025, never pass up on a talent like ROME where he was a top 5 pick in any other draft you drafted a OT at 9 or 11 or wherever Wright was.... I am never one who will just jump off the cliff or say it's been a disaster thus far. Houston Texans was a Playoff Team who won their division and won a playoff game last year. They added a guy who had 17 sacks last year to go opposite of 3rd overall pick Will Anderson, to go along with other very good box players. Sometimes you are just OUTGUNNED and OUT MATCHED up front. Schedule SOFTENS completely in next 5 games. Could be 6-1 or 5-2 after 7 games. I would take that every day. Colts are 0-2 and yes got down the field on Texans (probably bc OL is a bit better) but still didn't win. Then couldn't do anything last week on the road against a back up QB. Like I said, no juggernauts.......
