SIAC Week 10 - Sectional Round 1

Recommended Posts

SIAC teams and who they play in sectional round 1

- 2A - Mater Dei @ Tell City - Finally playing teams their own size.  Will MD continue dominance of this sectional?

- 3A - Vincennes @ Owen Valley - Is QB1 back?  Do they rest him another week?

- 4A - Bedford North Lawrence @ Harrison - Can Harrison get a surprise win against 6-3 BNL?

- 4A - Jasper @ Bosse - Does Jasper repeat win against Bosse or does Bosse score 80 and win?

- 4A - Memorial @ Central - Is QB1 back or is he done for the season?

- 4A - Boonville @ Reitz - Will Boonville catch Reitz sleeping again?

- 5A - Castle - bye week

- 5A - North - bye week

Sectional 24:

BNL @ Harrison - BNL 28-17 (know nothing about BNL, but Harrison isn't good)

Boonville @ Reitz - Reitz 47-0 (its not gonna happen again for the Pioneers)

Memorial @ Central - Memorial 38-0 (the Bears are chicken soup for the Tigers' soul)

Jasper @ Bosse - Bosse 36-31 in the upset (Wagner is a dawg at Enlow)

Sectional 30:

VL @ Owen Valley - VL 21-0  (Alices don't need Hunt until November at the Jewell)

Sectional 40:

MD @ Tell City - MD 28-7 (and Poseyville anxiety starts increasing)

They're good. They have a very dangerous QB/RB combo. Only losses were close games against good teams. Don't see any way Harrison stays in the game. Reitz (assuming they win) will absolutely have their hands full, especially having to make the long trip there.

Sectional 24:

BNL @ Harrison - The Stars have a very strong QB/RB duo that would cause any SIAC team problems. I think despite their trip to Evansville, they come out of this one with a big debut win.

Boonville @ Reitz - Tough to evaluate. The Pioneers surely have additional confidence knowing last year's result. But the Panthers should be extra motivated to not take it lightly because of that. This could be a close one but I don't think the Pioneers can go to Reitz Bowl and win.

Memorial @ Central - Perfect game for the Tigers to get back on track. This will be a game where they can get their QB moving forward more comfortable. Tigers win in a blowout.

Jasper @ Bosse - I think there is a very real chance Bosse can pull off this upset, especially at home. However, I think Jasper has improved more than Bosse since their last matchup. If Jasper can put together long drives and finish them, they win this comfortably. Keeping the ball out of Wagner's hands is key.

Sectional 30:

Vincennes @ Owen Valley - OV has fallen quite a bit after last year's run. VL has shown how good their defense is and that they do not need to score a bunch to win. I doubt Hunt is back for this game, but could be soon. Alices win this one and probably shut them out too.

Sectional 40:

Mater Dei @ Tell City - Despite their record, the Wildcats have improved and are playing good football. Right on cue for a playoff run, as usual. I think they win this game easily, increasing the anticipation for their matchup with NP.

Sectional 24

Bedford NL 42 Harrison 7 - Warriors fail to wake up the echos of Ryan Hales and CJ Hedgepeth, the authors of the last Harrison team to win a sectional in 2015.

Boonville 14 Reitz 35 - Panthers make up for the close loss last year.  However, a Reitz assistant coach is forced to run the stairs of Reitz Bowl every day next week after exclaiming, “Hey Pioneers, have you had Benough?”, after Ben Davies throws his second TD.

Memorial 48 Central 7 - Coach Hurley cancels his membership in the Coach Prime fan club after the Buffalos embarrassing loss to the Stanford Cardinal 🌲.  Bryan Harsin reaches out to the the Central Bears about the prospect of an unpaid assistant coaching position.

Jasper 35 at Bosse 32 - Coach Lewis instructs staff to deflate all of the practice balls and shows a nonstop highlight loop of Herschel Walker, Red Grange, Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, and other great running backs to emphasize the Wildcats run first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth…identity.

Sectional 30
Vincennes 26 Owen Valley 13 - Coach Salters arranges a FaceTime between Luke Lindsey and Curtis Painter to get Painter’s insights into playoff football (Somewhere Jim Mora has a heart palpitation at the mere mention of playoffs).

Sectional 40
Mater Dei 28 Tell City 26 - After a narrow win, Coach Goebel, recalling a chance meeting he had with Abe Lincoln in his first year at Mater Dei, awkwardly shares with a befuddled Coach Webb his favorite Lincoln quote, “I will prepare and some day my chance will come.”  Coach Webb shakes his head as he thanks Goebel.

This is the week the SIAC connects to the state on Sagarin.  Only VL (-51.53), MD (-28.37) and Harrison (+8.65) play non-SIAC opponents.  Expect major downgrading of the SIAC on Sagarin as those three schools will likely under perform collectively (-71.25)

Still not sure what it means. As I understand it, it takes a few weeks and even with that, Sagarin has never won a football game... Good luck to the Panthers. I expect you all will win big..

No, but one can dream of the day when pesky high schooler's don't get in the way.

Maybe speaking out of turn here- but would not surprise me if TC gives MD fits. Their RB’s see no joke and run extremely hard.

The spirit of Coach Goebel and the Wildcats lives rent free in Jets' GID stream... 8 - )

Mater Dei heads over to Tell City for the 13th overall matchup between the two schools. Mater Dei leads the all-time series, 8-4, and has won 4 straight against the Marksmen. Tell City is looking to beat Mater Dei for the first time since 1992. Both of these teams have seen different directions, as MD has had a down with a record of 2-7, but has been in competitive games with some of the top-level teams in the SIAC. Tell City did take a couple of punches in the face in their conference division. However, Tell City is looking to beat the defending 2A State Champions right off the back, while the Wildcats are hoping for a postseason push.

The Alices head up SR-67 to Spencer to face Owen Valley. The Alices are off to their best regular season since joining the SIAC at 6-3, while doing so the last couple of weeks without QB1. Owen Valley has had a rough season after two great seasons in 2021 and 2022, falling 3-6 on the year in the WIC-Gold. The Alices lead the series against Owen Valley, 5-2 all time. As they try to make some noise in 3A with the near return of their QB, while OV hopes to upset the Alices at home.

Preview
A rematch of the thrilling game last season when Boonville beat Reitz 28-27 at Boonville. However, Boonville heads to the Reitz Bowl against the undefeated SIAC Champion Reitz for a 2nd straight year. Boonville had a good amount of roster turnover from graduating a lot of seniors from last year, but managed to get a 5-4 record. One of the best teams in 4A and State, Reitz achieved B2B SIAC titles and is looking to avenge last year's loss against Boonville and make a deep run in the postseason. As the Panthers are balanced on the offense and defense.

The newcomer in Sectional 24, BNL heads down on I-69 to Evansville to face the Warriors. BNL had themselves a successful season going 6-3 and nearly winning their conference. Judging by their schedule, their three losses were close, but to good teams. The Warriors suffered another losing season after seeing some success last year. It could be a quick game tomorrow night, as BNL looks to tie the series against Harrison.

This one will be one of the most electrifying games in Southern Indiana, as Jasper heads down to Enlow against the high-powered Bosse Bulldogs. The Dawgs are led by QB Wagner, who is one of the most electrifying players on the field when he plays. On the other side of the ball, Jasper is one of the most run-dominant teams year in and out in the SIAC, as they led it again this year. I already know this game will be a high-scoring/yardage game!
