I noticed as well. Don't get me wrong QB1 for the Irish is very good and he will develop with his green WR's as the season goes along. Just in my opinion (take it for what it is worth as I am no guru) if the Irish get more balanced their offense will be very dangerous as those WR's come along with the QB. I feel #22 looks to be a very solid RB and just didn't understand why it seemed they completely abandoned running the ball with him. He did show some flashes in the 4th qtr. A couple of those 4th qtr drives are where the Irish offense could be. It is early in the season and they will get better. Honestly both teams will.

For right now I think BD and CG are at 1 and 2. Then Brownsburg at 3 once they shore up and improve in the secondary will be in discussion with 1 and 2. HSE, Cathedral, Lawrence Central, and Westfield throw them in a blender and whomever pops out is at 4, and I could toss Fishers in there I just need to see them against a team other than North Central or Pike. The Potential is there for the Irish, but they have some work to do, and they will get some tests on their schedule to keep checking where they stand as they improve.

After watching the replay, this all makes sense...

I’ll agree with you here with one caveat. These two junior classes from Cathedral and Center Grove have a history. When these junior classes were freshmen, they were both touted as one of the best ever for both schools. CG ripped through the MIC undefeated and CHS ripped through the tri-state P/P undefeated in 2018. They faced each other in a very contentious battle both with Cathedral winning 14-7 at the CG middle school field. Point being, they have angry history.

As for state titles is all that matters, I’ll be immodest and absolutely agree at Cathedral. With the abundance of state title caliber programs, any accomplishments short of an IHSAA title don’t get any love on campus. Sectional, Regional, or Semi-state titles are rarely mentioned.

Agreed, and don't get me wrong, I understand the importance of Sectional/Regional/Semi-State/State Titles & the High School sports programs (all sports), I just hate how AAU/Travel Ball/Club Ball has taken away from the High School programs all over (especially Indiana) just because of the National/Collegiate-experience/exposure...I fear that athletes will soon steer clear of High School athletics for fear of injury and lack of exposure they can get from AAU/Club/Travel Ball, which is where a lot of kids get Regional & National looks from Coaches/Schools.

The “real prize” of course, is a state championship. Poll the Cathedral & CG players and coaches. Not one of them will say their top goal is to “put Indiana football on the map.” If that happens, all well and good. But that’s not where their ultimate focus is ... nor should it be.

Don’t need to poll them, been there and done that, lived it...At some places it’s an expectation...”If it happens, all well and good “ is IHSAA talk...In my opinion it’s not looking at the bigger picture

I get what you're saying. However Center Grove under Coach Moore has been predominantly a "Wing T" team, yes they run some spread stuff on occasion. I don't think there is much for CG or Cathedral to hide Offensively or defensively that they haven't already shown on film. Both coaches are basically this is what we run come stop me, not much fancy. Do they have some trick plays? I would say probably and they probably wouldn't use them in this game (unless they want to throw something on film to make a future opposing team prepare for). I think you will see both team do what they usually do and may the best team win. I definitely don't think either team will be saving themselves for the tournament.

Agreed, I was also trying to figure out what the “real prize” is (quoted previously), I think for both programs, the “real prize” is actually a yearly expectation...The ultimate prize should be putting Indiana Football on the map, comparable to the top programs in the Midwest/Country...

It looks like this old fan will be home again this week.  The game is sold out and I'm without.  I hope someone decides to televise this one.  Channel 23 has Ben Davis at North Central scheduled.  Maybe they will change that when they find out their ratings will be double for the Irish/CG game.

    I think it’s televised here...

    They do.

And great question, single dumbest rule the IHSAA implements.

Agreed...I think this is what clouds the thought process with football fans, and thinking when comparing athletics' in the state of Indiana...Yes, the State Championship in all sports is the team recognized goal throughout the state, but National Recognition is the ultimate goal...Center Grove, Cathedral, and other great programs should have the opportunity to play other schools, from other states, regardless of distance (if the particulars can be worked out) in order to boost our great state athletic programs...When I think of all the great INDIANA Football, Baseball, Basketball, (any other sports) programs that have come-n-gone, I wish they could see where they stack up and play the best there is out there...The Herbstreit Classic was great for Cathedral, not belonging to a conference, and being locked into games has helped, and the mindset of National recognition has helped.  If Indian sports wishes to keep up with AAU/Club Sports programs, they better figure out how to figure it out, and help support schools who cant $fund$ it...MyHumbleOpinion

I think Elder is as dangerous as either of the previous GCL teams. They took a full-strength LaSalle team to OT and had St. X on the ropes until late. This is an extremely dangerous game. I would expect nothing less than a 3 or 7 point game like X/LaSalle. I’ll cautiously make the Vegas line of  Cathedral -3.5 due to home field. Cathedral is 1-5 against Cincy Elder with our last win coming in 1930.

    GCL Pre-season Scouting Report:

    Elder
Coach Doug Ramsey's Panthers took some major hits on the roster due to graduation with the GCL-South's top rusher and No. 2 passer Matthew Luebbe gone as well as tight end Joe Royer and offensive lineman Jakob James to Ohio State and lineman Luke Kandra to Louisville. Top tackler Colton Sandhas is also gone.

But, they tend to replenish in Price Hill with many of the youngsters growing up dreaming of playing in The Pit. Many in last year's shadows will now have the opportunity to shine, including junior Drew Ramsey who followed Elder's recent tradition of being in the offense as a receiver/back while waiting for his turn at quarterback. The Panthers remaining have much to prove after falling short in the DI finallast December after entering the fourth quarter with a 14-7 lead on Pickerington Central.

"People are going to doubt you now because you think about the guys we lost," Ramsey said. "Two guys going to Ohio State, a guy going to Louisville, a quarterback that threw for 4,000, rushed for 2,000. We lost a lot of talent. That's what happens in sports. Some of these guys have to assume those roles and play at a high level."

Drew Ramsey of Elder runs the ball against Ryle Sept. 27, 2019.

Players to watch: Drew Ramsey was 3-for-5 passing last season, but two of those went for touchdowns. Back at his natural position, those numbers should improve. As a utility back as a sophomore, Ramsey ran for 319 yards and four touchdowns and caught 61 passes for 633 yards and five scores. One of his targets could be tight end David Larkins, who backed up Joe Royer last season. Larkins has committed to play at Appalachian State.

"Why not us?" Larkins said. "Just because we lost so many people, so many high-rated guys, why can't we make a run for state again?"

On the line, Drew Beckenhaupt will lead the way. The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder has committed to the Toledo Rockets.

Agreed, they look good on film and are well coached...Penalties and turnovers should decide this one.
