    Who is learning to block?

I was down in your area, Franklin, when my kids were going through and they just told kids to get in the way or push on another kid.  All the coaches were worried about was how to get the fastest kids to the outside and score.  No Mechanics taught at all.  Hell, we still had kids at the high school level chicken wing blocking.

  2. When I was there in the 2018 season the head coach got $6000 to split between assistant coaches, as they see fit.  The head coach was also able to negotiate their contract the year after I was there.

When I started my teaching Job and coaching under Marty in 2014, I did the drive from Franklin from July to October (Bought a house in town in October).  It is a tiring drive and some late nights, especially Friday nights and turn around to be back on Saturday morning.  Franklin is a great town and hard to leave.  I still have many friends down there.

I truly hope that Coach Riggs sticks around.  Those kids have been through so much and they deserve to have someone to believe in them and willing to stay and see them through this rough patch.

  3. In my short tenure, I was able to line up six outreach opportunities for our team.  It helps when your assistant coaches are connected to the community.  Get in contact with your local government agencies.  The parks and rec department gave us two jobs, the street department gave us one, we partnered with our unified teams, we worked with local churches to do repairs and maintenance, and some of our athletes went to retirement communities and played board games with them.  Other opportunities that fell through were helping with the VFW, painting fire hydrants, and helping tear down eyesores.

I just don't see it. All the talent at Elwood is either in the stand, at home or transferred. It will take a few years for them to get on track!

Elwood is a work in progress.  I feel they have a chance, but will need to execute.  Last year we knew we were going to have a couple of lean years with freshmen and sophomores playing.  This might have been pushed back a year with transfers.  Ron knows what he has and is getting experience for the younger players.  Win or lose these kids are doing what they can, but they are a few steps slower than the teams they are facing.  Coaching longevity and player buy-in will determine how Elwood does in the future.

    What is an Argyle anyway?

The Argyll is a Scottish Warrior. At least that is what I was told by by a dearly departed friend.  As a new teacher I first thought it was a sock and another teacher thought it was a cat.  Julie told us we were stupid, she had a way about that, and explained about the warrior
