I wish her the best. It's a lot of fun trying to search down little tidbits of history to give to future generations. I'm currently trying to figure out game-by-game results for Ben Davis girls basketball, and it's a challenge. Once it's done though, it's there for everyone. My project is easy compared to what she's trying to do.

There are a few yearbooks on the classmates website.

You can also use inspire.in.gov and click on the newspapers link and search for the Indianapolis Star, it has all the past editions except for the last 30 days or so.

I may be able to help you with what you are missing if you want to dm here.

Here is a photo I saw on X yesterday of the Chatard State Championship team from 25 years ago. To save everyone from having to count (unless you love seeing enormously oversized shoulder pads), there are 31 kids in uniform. What’s my point? Every program has to start somewhere. Chatard didn’t get to 85 on varsity overnight.

Looks like 37 in uniform to me, but I'm getting older and the eyes aren't what they used to be.

Chatard listed 66 on the state finals roster that year.  29 were Freshmen.

Any interest in a Hoosier Heartland Basketball thread? I started one on the (GID)basketball forum but doesn't seem like it gets a l lot of action historically, is there another place that is more popular for Indiana HS basketball forums?

I know there is a growing sentiment among people at Sheridan that the WeBo game is pointless, and needs to go away. I'd love to see the Hamilton Heights matchup come back. Maybe a Lutheran/Covenant/etc?

On the other hand, Coach Wright often uses the WeBo game to just try stuff and see if it works. He might be lobbying to keep the game, just as another scrimmage.

Why would these games be any better?

WeBo is a strong program right now and Sheridan should be aiming to be more competitive with them. Replacing them with the any of the 3 schools you mention would probably have the people calling it pointless in a few years as well.

  5. I have completed my 1st step of the "Blue Bloods Spreadsheet".  It's currently 8 pages and has a lot of data in it so I'll try to cover what it does and does not do.

Each class has a page tab at the bottom, with the current class assignments sorted alphabetically. (Thanks to the IHSAA for reclassifying after I started working on this). 😒

On each page it lists all the success factor points each team accumulated per year using the current success factor formula since the all in tournament started in the fall of 1985. It then totals all the points and gives you a yearly average. You will see yearly averages and points earned for the following time frames - ALL YEARS, 1st 28 years 85-2012, past 25 years, past 20 years, past 15 years, past 10 years, past 9 years- the addition of the 6th class, and past 5 years. It does not care what class points were earned in, you carry all earned points to your current class.

Unfortunately I don't think the data is sortable in it's current form without copying it into a new spreadsheet, which is what I did for the 6A leaders page. This is due to how many changes and merges of the cells so I apologize for that, but I plan to eventually do a leaders page for each class.

Finally I'm sure there are mistakes, errors or omissions. I've probably fat fingered  some info into cells it does not belong, or screwed up a formula somewhere. If you see something questionable, let me know and I'll research it and get it corrected. Also some schools have  not played in every tournament or new schools have opened since 1985 and I'll have to make adjustments for them in some of the formulas. I've done some, but not all.

So here you go.......SUCCESS FACTOR BLUE BLOODSxlsx.xlsx

I think it was said earlier - but it would have been interesting to see this list 10 years ago, 20 years ago, and who would have been included then and who isn't now. Two "smaller" schools from Michiana that I personally have always viewed as "blue blood" programs that I don't think have been mentioned yet are Jimtown and NorthWood.

The Jimmies have 22 Sectional, 12 Regional, 6 Semi-State and 4 State Championships. However, the last of each of those titles respectively are 2014, 2009, 2005 and 2005. Since the school has grown into a 3A enrollment, they have not seen the same level of postseason success that they did for the better part of 3 decades.

The Panthers have 18 Sectional, 11 Regional, 6 Semi-State and 1 State Championships. As the case is with the Jimmies, since they moved into class 4A a little over a decade ago, they won a Sectional Championship in 2011 and were State Runner-Ups (14-1 record) in 2016. It has been tougher sledding for NorthWood since moving to 4A.

I still consider both of these programs to be "blue blood" status. However, that is just my opinion.

I'm currently working on some spreadsheets which will show how teams have fared over the years.

I hope to have them all completed and posted here in the next couple of days.

  7. Here is the spreadsheet I created. I did it on the fly here at work, and copied the numbers from the IHSAA and John Harrells sites. But there could be some mistakes since I had to manually enter a lot of the info.

It gives points for each title won, but it's formulated different from the IHSAA success factor points.

It gives 1 point for Sectionals won, 2 points for Regionals won, 3 points for a Semi State, and 4 for winning the state. However it totals all the points for the same season, so if you win State, it's actually giving you 10 points. (1+2+3+4) State runner up would be 6 points (1+2+3) etc.....

I didn't have the time to go year by year to just award points on the furthest step a team advanced to.
