2016 3A South Semi-State- Brownstown Central vs Lawrenceburg
- 1

It was presented to the IHSAA executive committee and the sending proposal is listed above in my original reply.

If I remember correctly, In regards to seeding, they felt if they seeded for football they would need to seed all sports and all sports didn't have sagarin ratings. We didn't understand this line of reasoning since all sports also don't have 6 classes. The AD's loved the idea of seeding since there was a chance to make more money at the sectional level which went directly to the schools in each sectional.
In regards to the success factor, Bobby Cox liked the 2 year plan over our 4 year plan.

In 2012 the IFCA formed a 14 member committee with myself and Ryan Gallogly {Brebeuf HS} as Co-Chairmans. We put together a 3- part proposal to the IHSAA that included- Part 1- 6th class, Part 2- Success Factor and Part 3- seeding {see below}.
I polled all the football playing schools Principals, AD's and Head Coaches in the state on all 3 proposals. Principals- 83% of the principals voted & 85% voted YES, AD's- 86% of the AD's voted & 85% voted YES, Head Coaches- 96%of the head coaches voted & 91% voted YES.
We presented are proposal the indiana Athletic Directors committee and they voted 24-0 in favor of are 3 part proposal. Then we presented it to the IHSAA and they approved the 6th class, they approved their version of the success factor {ours was for 4 years not 2} and they did not approve seeding.

I apologize for reposting but it was pointed out to me that in #5 I convenientely left out the distance from Sullivan, Linton & North Knox to Tell City. I added those mileage comparison, which except for Sullivan to Tell City the other 2 are still shorter than the drives in the approved sectional 39.When you look at a map there are 16 teams in the south, 8 teams in the southeast {sectional 39 below} and 8 teams in the southwest {sectional 40 below}, which would have been two perfect geographical based sectionals. Then sectional 37 would have been Indianapolis then to the West, while sectional 38 would have been Indianapolis then to the East. Both sectional 37 & 38 would also have been better geographically which I describe later on.This would NOT affect the 4 northern sectionals.CLASS 2A SOUTHERN SECTIONALS BASED ON GEOGRAPHY37- Cascade, Christel House, Greencastle, Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter, Indianapolis Scecina Memorial, North Putnam, South Vermillion & Southmont38- Eastern Hancock, Heritage Christian, Lapel, Northeastern, Shenandoah, Triton Central, Union County & Winchester39- Brown County, Brownstown Central, Clarksville, Crawford County, Eastern {Pekin}, Mitchell, Paoli & Switzerland County40- Evansville Mater Dei, Forest Park, Linton-Stockton, North Knox, North Posey, Perry Central, Sullivan & Tell CitySectional 40- was an easy adjustment, why was it changed??a} Past 3 years Linton-Stockton & North Knox have been in sectional 40, why move them to sectional 37?b} South Spencer dropped to 1A, Sullivan dropped to 2A, easy switch, put Sullivan in Sectional 40. Hopefully you will take the time to look over the approved Class 2A sectional assignments and realize that there is a better geographical way to align the south. With inflation and the rise in gas prices it would benefit all schools to align the sectionals based on geography.Thank you for your time.Reed MayHead Football Coach

Where did you get that I was ok with anything? I just stated the success factor rule?
Unfortunately for us the IHSAA did not reclassify last year. Our enrollment would have put us in 2A, {our enrollment as of last week was 475}. We finished the season at 11-1 but we got beat by a very good Lawrenceburg team in the sectional championship game and if we would have won, we would have played the 3A state champion {Gibson Southern} in the regional. Like yourself we were NOT ok with the IHSAA not reclassifying last year. Believe me, I wish we had been in 2A last year, but we weren't.
I would also like to say that Coach Buening and I are very good friends and I want nothing but the best for Southridge HS. Hopefully, the IHSAA will reclassify this year and we both will be back in 2A.

The success factor formula states that, If you are up a class and earn 2 or more points over that 2 year period, that school would remain up a class.
Since both schools were up a class for only 1 year, it will be interesting to see what the IHSAA decides to do with both schools.
Western Boone was 3A last year. 2021- they received zero points. 2020 they were 2A- they won state, they received 4 points.
Chatard was 4A last year. 2021- they received zero points. 2020 they were 3A- they won state, they received 4 points.

The Indianapolis Star had an article on this topic, January 28th. Paul Neidig's, the IHSAA commissioner, stated the following.
1} The IHSAA is planning on reclassifying this year.
2} Each School's IDOE enrollment numbers will be released in the next few weeks.
3} Once those numbers are verified, the reclassification will take place.
4} Success factor adjustment will be based on the 20-21 and 21-22 school years.
5} Once classes are created, realignment committees will be selected to create new sectional groupings.

Do you have us {Brownstown Central} in your tournament? We would like to have our varsity in the Big State and our JV in the small state if you do not. Thanks
