    image.png.773dd580dd40e9d4978fde799636442d.png

and even further back to 2014 so far

and back to 2009 which is as far as Im willing to go. so not just a new rule this year.

Yep I saw that today.  Can't believe it's been in place that long.  Either way, I'm not a fan of it.

Mater Dei's three road games have spanned 465 miles (one way).

    91 miles to Linton

    199 miles to Triton Central

    175 miles to Beech Grove

In year's past, Mater Dei would have been home this week for semi state.  That's not the case this year because of this rule that was added:

*If regional winner has not hosted either sectional final or regional, that school will be the designated host.

Not sure that makes a lot of sense.  It doesn't take travel time into consideration at all.  Instead they have another 4 hour bus ride up north.  Scecina's travel time has been much less.

MD’s sophomore QB has a brother that is on NPs team. Some of the MD players live in NP school district. On the flip side some of NPs players attended a MD grade schools and then chose to come to NP for high school.

MD has grade schools in three counties (Posey, Gibson, Vanderburgh)

Both of Wunderlich's parents are MD graduates

Well of course injuries are a concern.  I just meant they are lesser of a concern due to having such a large roster.

Let's take your freshman team argument from a few posts back.  In the 2019-2020 school year, Mater Dei's freshman class was 128 students(right in line with other schools in the sectional except Linton who is a little smaller school).  Linton's freshman class was 105.  Assuming half of those are males, MD had a 64 kid pool to possibly play football and Linton had 52.  So Mater Dei get's 25 + of those kids out playing football and Linton doesn't have enough to form a team(in your words).  Numbers wise, there's not a big difference between the 2 schools class size wise.  Isn't it part of the equation for a football head coach and program to get as many of those kids out playing football as possible?

I definitely get your take...  it is nearly double.   Take away the 12 frosh and it's still 63.   Linton has 12 freshman too who play on special teams.    I am sure both teams have kids not dressed for one reason or another... at this point injuries or quarantine issues.   I know Linton is down 3... hopefully not 4 or more!    Looks like enrollment wise Mater Dei is 19th in 2A... Linton is 49th.   I'd be interested in Luers roster... or say Andrean.. .who is 42nd in 2A enrollment wise...

Yes that is not all the freshman football players at Mater Dei.  I believe the freshman team had around 25 kids.

75 - 42?  Who usually wins that "fight"?  As I said, they have their numbers and why they can be successful against some of the bigger schools.   When you are only looking for 22 starters, having 75 to choose from is a big advantage over  most other schools, even some bigger classes.   I get they play one of the toughest SOS in all of 2A but they are best prepared to play that SOS than most 2A teams.   And yeah I get they have a great head coach but it starts with the numbers.   MD has them.  Anyone else in 2A with a bigger roster?

I think what would make more sense is to compare the number of football players to total enrollment in the school.  You act like Mater Dei has 1500 students.  Mater Dei has 492 kids.  Linton has 391.

I don't know of a time that siblings went to NP and MD and the better athlete came to NP.

What happens a lot is that there are kids that get the benefit of playing in Mater Dei feeder leagues and Mater Dei travel(all star) basketball teams, all the while knowing that they will be going to North Posey.  So these kids not only get all the coaching resources, but they are probably blocking a kid that would otherwise make the team and attend Mater Dei.  I'm just saying this stuff goes both ways.

We have it in wrestling also, one brother wrestles for Mater Dei and one wrestles for North Posey. Seems to be happening more and more We have a teacher at North Posey who has a daughter in high school, a 6th grade son at NP, couple younger children that will attend NP, but her oldest son (7th grade) left NP school district and entered St. Wendel Catholic School this last year. He is no longer playing sports with the NP kids, now plays with the Mater Dei kids.

Yeah this happens the other way around too.

    you are basing your opinion

off of what, please tell STC.

I am sure you know tons about the Pats

but tell us what you know about the Tigers attack?

The only thing easy in the Dirty Burg are

lap dances and boogie night girls!

My concern when I evaluate Lawrenceburg is their defense.  I don't like that they gave up 35 points to Batesville.  If you look back in recent seasons when they've had to play really good teams, their defenses just haven't been able to stop anyone.  Because of this, Heritage Hills will control the line of scrimmage with the flexbone and keep the Tigers high powered offense off the field.  I'm not a big believer in a sophomore quarterback being able to win a game like this either.  I expect Heritage Hills to force several turnovers.  Nothing against Lawerenceburg and they may prove me wrong, but I'm not going to bet on them until they do.  I will say their stadium is one of the best venues I've ever been to.

Without Reitz and Castle taking a hiatus for softer sports, the SIAC is a shadow in football of what it once was. Yes it is good to see Central restored but I'm not sure how long that will last. Perhaps the injection of new blood will help.

I get what you're saying in regards to Reitz and Castle.  Maybe you don't have that one dominant big school team in it this year but in my opinion there were a lot more chances to actually lose a game this year.  There have been years when Bosse, Harrison, North and Central were not very good.  This year it was Harrison and maybe Bosse to a lesser extent.  Reitz found themselves a bit the last 2 or 3 weeks of the season so they were not a terrible team either.  Also, when you play that many solid teams I think there's a greater chance of injury.

Castle is always 4-3 or 5-2.  It’s puzzling imo. Should roll siac most years. Kinda gives you an idea how good SIAC was this year.

Castle cares more about their band than their football team.  Still a tough place to play for teams that want to pass with the ridiculous crown on their field.

I mean no disrespect to Triton Central, but I just don't see this being all that close.  I realize common opponent match-ups can be misleading, but TC lost to Indian Creek by 8 and MD flat-out pounded Indian Creek in a running clock game that was never even close.  I really expected IC to give MD a game.  With what MD has done the last 2 weeks to 2 good 2A teams, what does TC do?  How do they stack up to Linton and North Knox?

I'm not sure how the 2 teams stack up but they didn't do MD any favors with the early start time Saturday.

  12. I think Linton has played enough quality teams that strength of schedule shouldn't be a factor.  Both teams are much improved from last year.  Linton runs an offense that Mater Dei doesn't see too often and it'll be interesting to see if they can deal with it.  This game will most likely be decided by the offensive and defensive lines, as most games are.

So subtracting the Sags gives Linton a 1.33 advantage.  But if you add in the 1.45 points for home field, that makes Mater Dei a .12 point favorite.  Whew!  Linton is still the underdog!

I'm wondering how accurate Sagarin is now with the introduction of the running clock.  Mater Dei drops after winning 56-0 against a team they could have probably beat 150-0.

This should be a good game against 2 tradition rich and well coached teams.
