Thout this b a better game than last yr as LaVille has improved, might still b....... But beating Andrean w a back up QB would b IMPRESSIVE.... id go as far to say that its rare as hens teeth for a small school to overcome that disaster .... jus don't think John Harrell got the memo.....
Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m thinking Andrean is without their starting quarterback too. It will be interesting when and if he returns. He is very very good! Regardless, I think a big question going into the Andrean vs LaVille game is can LaVille defend Andrean’s potent passing game? Especially if it is a nice weather night.

I say the Jays handle them by at least a couple of scores. I’m hoping Spanky Harper comes out this week and gives us his thoughts on the game. Always has some great insight! Coach Lambert and staff will have their Bluejays eating sand burrs off the practice field in preparation for this game. Jays will pounce on them!

I wonder if they aren't the smallest 3A team in the state. It is because of enrollment that they are up right? Not because of SF
Yes that is correct. At that point in time we had 521 students. With the current classes at high school now the enrollment is 480. Then with two middle school classes around 80 kids each, look for the Bombers to close in on 400-420 students next cycle.

Rensselaer enrollment is currently 480. They have two extremely small classes coming up with around 80 kids on each one at middle school. Varsity team this year is primarily sophomores.

The decision in 3A north to bring Delta and Yorktown to Fort Wayne and to add Tipp Valley to 28 is very odd. Almost an extra hr drive for everyone? Makes no sense to me. Decision to move West Lafayette complicates Marian’s yearly waltz to semi state.
In 3A North I agree with you. No idea why they didn’t leave Knox in Sectional 25 where they are relatively close and been in that sectional, leave West Lafayette in Sectional 28 where they have been and relatively close to those schools and put Tippecanoe Valley in Sectional 26 where they are very close in mileage. Very weird how that played out. Tippecanoe Valley has no business being in Sectional 28.

I have always wondered why the IHSAA does not release the classifications when they release the enrollments. I guess I can understand them waiting on determining the sectional alignments, but not with the classifications. When the enrollments are released, just release the classifications as well.
You are making too much sense. I think they get off on making us wait.

So at this point I think you can ask why is there such a huge turnover in head coaches at KV? It pays well, very nice facilities… Why do coaches run from there so quickly?
-
Lights out!!!! Andrean can run clock out. Andrean will win 17-14
-
Andrean up 17-14 and Andrean has the ball at Eastside 36. 2:16 to go 2nd and 2
-
Andrean 17 East side 14 5:13 to go

This has to put Eastside in the drivers seat.
Better make it a 2 seater because Andrean is will have a major say in this too!

From what I have seen in the past the host school will agree to a set fee for use of the facilities. It could be paid by the host school or come out of the money generated and shared by the sectional. From my experiences the school that is hosting the event will get all concessions and the rental fee. The workers are all provided by the school requesting the rental.

Since Miner fan Tom Dawson, aka, ITISWHATITIS, has unfortunately lost his long battle with cancer and can no longer start the Linton Miner game thread each week, I thought I would fill in for him at least this once to start this new season. Tom used to go by USNAVYRET. Back in the day when the Linton team threads sometimes got a bit more "contentious" than they do nowadays, Tom could be sort of abrasive at times. I'm sad that he's gone and I'll certainly miss him. He moved to Linton from Ohio and had a son that played for Linton several years ago, He had resided in Bloomington for the last several years although he remained a staunch Linton fan and went to most games when his health permitted.
Linton has never beaten Southridge but they have a good shot at getting a win Friday night. Southridge graduated most of the starters on both sides of the ball. The Miners return almost everyone from the 8-4 team last year. In last years opener at Southridge, Linton had no offensive punch and lost 28 - 0. Linton moved the starting QB to WB and promoted the Soph backup QB to starter and responded by beating a good Sullivan team the second week. I'm thinking this this will be the best Miner team since the undefeated !A championship team of 2016. The big question is can the be good enough to beat Mater Dei in the 2A Sectional. They never have yet. We'll worry about that later.
I believe North Knox will be a serious contender in your sectional as well as I believe they have several players back from last year’s team.

Where is that program heading? Got to like the progress they made this season. Are more kids getting interested due to the recent success? Do you expect the HFC to stick around and continue to build?
The NCC needs a good and growing KV program. Now if we could just get Munster and Highland to pull their weight.
They seem to load up on a lot of small schools with their non conference schedule. They play Rensselaer (2A), my school Wheeler (2A), North Newton (2A), and South Bend Washington (3A). Only conference wins were Highland (4-5) and Munster (1-9). Lost to Andrean, Hobart, and Lowell. Lost in first round of sectionals to Culver Military. They finished 6-4 and Sagarin was 111. I really like a lot of the evaluations you make DT at times but I don’t see it on this one. I think you would agree for 4A KV to take a true step up they should strengthen that non conference schedule with a few 5A/6A schools. How about Crown Point, Michigan City or even Mishawaka? Just my 2 cents. Merry Christmas!

6a Merrillville
5a Valpo (if still 5a?)
4a Hobart
3a Hanover Central
2a Wheeler
1a Parke Heritage
I agree with you that Wheeler has the horses to compete for a state championship next year but I also thought they would be playing for a sectional championship this year til they got hammered by Rensselear so not really sure anymore.

Andrean's loss means they remain a Class 2A team for two more years, right?
Or 1A. Word on the street is they had 376 students on count day.

Covid has had a devastating and long term impact on many high school athletic programs across the state. Unfortunately, those who could least afford to deal with the impact of Covid are being hit the hardest, and their ability to compete in this brave new world has been compromised.
Conversely, wealthy school districts and PPs have the deep pockets and overall resources to navigate the pandemic and come out stronger on the other side.
Given the events of the past 12 months and the outcomes that we have seen playod out on the athletic fields across the state, its time for The IHSAA to step back in and revisit the issue of competitive balance between and amongst its member institutions. One of COVIDS unintended consequences has been to further the competitive gap between the haves and the have nots, taking an ever dwindling number of post season contenders and further reducing that once again.
Two findamental changes are needed to further addrewss the widening gulf that is separating the haves from the have nots, especiually in high cost sports such as football.
1. Roll back the Success Factor to include Indiana Public Schools only.
2. Institute the Mandatory 2.0 PP Multiplier, whereas all PP schools will have their actual enrollments multiplied by "2" to achieve class designation.
We are seeing a new period of emerging PP dominance, due primarily to the PPs ability to better manage and manuever their way thru the COVID Pandemic. Most observers will agree that common sense would dictate that PP football programs generally play "up" during the regular season and "down" during the post season. This reality defies all good logic and common sense, and clearly has a negative overall impact on competitive balance within the classes.
Under this new proposal, PPs will accept their new 2.0 Multiplied Classification, or have the option to contract their football program. There are several throughout the state that might seriously consider contraction.
Below is a recap of the new enrollment numbers to be used for classification purposes :
Roncalli 1188/2376 6A
Cathedral 1099/2198 6A
Dwenger 1015/2030 6A
SB St Joe 857/1714 5A
Brebeuf 791/1582 5A
Guerin 761/1522 5A
Chatard 714/1428 4A
Marian 645/1290 4A
Ev Memorial 609/1218 4A
Ritter 566/1132 4A
Luers 542/1084 4A
Mater Dei 497/994 4A
Heritage Christian 462/924 4A
Bishop Noll 460/920 4A (Contract)
Scecina 427/854 4A
Andrean 414/828 4A
Covenent Christian 365/730 3A
LCC 287/574 3A
Ind Lutheran 225/450 2A
Traders Point Christian 128/256 (Auto minimum 1 class bump)
I have read that Andrean’s current enrollment is in the 370s. Correct me if I am wrong but that number is approaching 1A. Andrean I believe would dominate 1A football.

The move in from Marian Catholic High School from Illinois is a huge upgrade for Andrean at QB. They are heavy favorites to come out of the North.

I believe Coach Nowlin is referring to the incident in 2005 when Heights beat Tipton in the last couple minutes of a sectional game and a certain mother of a player came onto the field after and planted something on it. To be honest, I can't remember what it was that she planted. I've always thought that time period was when the rivalry was at its peak.
Interesting rivalry. According to Sagarin Tipton is favored by 11 plus they are highly ranked and beat a very solid Central Catholic team. I say Tipton 35 Hamilton Heights 7. Then would Tipton represent that side of the conference for the Hoosier Conference Championship in Week 9? I could see them and West Lafayette being a shootout!

Anyone have an idea how the teams in the Hoosier Conference will do their Week 9 crossover with the screwed up schedules from Covid?

I'd like to see the Bombers start a series with the Linton Miners. I've noticed that the Bombers have a couple of non conference games on their schedule. Why not drop Munster? They aren't a very good program in 5A. In fact they are ranked last in 5A. They could always schedule the game on a Saturday and maybe play at a neutral site like they did last week with North Knox to avoid a long, long drive. I believe the two programs are similar and think it would be an epic series. And it would give the Bombers some southern exposure while giving the Miners some Northern exposure. Your thoughts Coach?
Actually I believe the Bombers were supposed to play Twin Lakes that weekend. Munster was a close last minute convenient pick up.

May play again in the Regional.
Coach Shanley has big school assistant coaching experience too. He was on Mike Kirschner's staff here at Ben Davis.
Would love to see Lafayette Jeff pick up Ben Davis for a 2 year contract.
