WHME knew the rights were available.  They didn't offer 1 cent for the rights.   They thought they were entitled.  So, talk to Chuck.

That doesn't address the discrepancy I brought up. So instead of blaming WHME -- which has done more for high school sports than any TV station in the northern part of the state -- could you possibly explain the discrepancy in how regions of the state are treated by this TV deal?

My point.... if you are going to show all the other Class Games for free on Cable TV.... make arrangements to show ALL of the Classes free on TV.

That's not fair to parents and fans.   That's unequal.

People will say.... but it's only $15 or $20 bucks and it goes to a good cause.... Fine.... CHARGE EVERYBODY $15 or $20 to watch all the ballgames then.

This is the feeling I have living in the northern part of the state, as well.  There is no one in the Bally Sports Indiana service area that is paying that much per month for that cable channel.  The IHSAA is well-aware that Bally Sports Indiana doesn't reach into the north, or else they wouldn't have allowed WHME to air the games for all those years.

So, basically, they are punishing people in the northern -- and as I read this, the southern part -- of the state. It truly is an unequitable situation. Not to mention, you are completely missing the opportunity to get the casual viewer who might come past your game and see your product for a while

I get the fact that the IHSAA controls the rights and can do what they want with them. But to run the media campaign "this is your IHSAA"?  Apparently, that's only true in the markets that receive Bally Sports Indiana.

Here's a proposal to the IHSAA.

In today's wonderful world of technology which allows every Semi-State game to be broadcast on IHSAATV, why not play half of the games (2A,4A,6A) on Friday night & half of the games (1A,3A,5A) on Saturday? It seems like a win-win for all fans. More tickets would probably be sold (passionate HS football fans could attend multiple Semi-State games instead of having to choose one) along with more PPV purchases. Every state finalist would still have a full 7 days between their Semi-State game & the State championship game.

    Saturday is for college football.

This is WHME TV46 game of the week.  With it being Semi State, i don't know if they will livestream it or not

but it will air on 46 @ 11:00 Friday night and re-air again Saturday morning @ 9:00.  Chuck and Bo in the booth and North Judson's

own Charlie Adams roaming the sidelines.  Should be a great semi state game and the atmosphere should be incredible.

They are not the livestreamers this week.

I thought they got a syn turf field a few years ago when they passed referendum. I may be wrong though. I've been to numerous games there and it is a classic high school stadium, not a cookie cutter type. It may be over 60-70 years old or more. I may have to go to game.

Stadium was built back in the 1930s. Pictureque setting. But they did not get synthetic turf.

    Can u recommend any eateries/bars?

There's a ton of stuff within 10 minutes of the school. Evil Czech is a good craft brewery up on Main Street.  There's a Hacienda on Lincolnway a few minutes from the school if you want Mexican food. Rulli's is a good Italian place. Plenty to choose from.

Parking will be your biggest issue. If you can park in the school lot, go for it. Otherwise, the streets around the stadium are narrow and fill up fast.

Frank Karczewski will have to start his head coaching career delayed.  The SBCSC school board won't meet until August 1.

This is misleading. While Karczewski still has to be formally approved by the board, he has been working with the team since it returned from moratorium on July 11. While still behind almost all programs, it's not the drastic circumstance people are being led to believe.

Does the current NHS gym still have the stage at the end??  I could be dating myself by asking this question....

It's not really a stage, but an alcove of bleachers where they pack the student section. It's unique, for certain.

I wouldn't say one hit wonder, and I think it's very early to make that type of assessment of the Elkhart program. There was at least a small but vocal voice in this forum that took Elkhart's success as a sign that it had emerged as this dominant force in Northern Indiana football. I think many of the same structural forces that hamstring Penn or any other of the larger schools outside of Indy affect Elkhart and will continue to affect that program.

I was able to get back to town for the previous two games (St. X and Elkhart) and here are some takeaways. In the same way that St. X was from a different planet than Penn--100 man roster with just two Sophomores on it, a defense of mobile six-footers, dynamic game changers, etc.--Penn is and is likely to continue to be a lesser version of that when compared to Elkhart. I don't know anyone of great significance was out for Elkhart, but they had about a 65-75 man roster while Penn still keeps about 100 guys on the "varsity" roster. That makes a difference. Both teams struggled in special teams play--Elkhart was poor in a number of these aspects, but I've also never seen such poor long snapping for Penn--and neither side had reliable quarterback play in the passing game.

The ingredients for sustained, consistent programmatic success are there for Elkhart, and it is unfair to expect that program to emerge fully formed after last season alone. However, I have also been critical of the NIC and the impact that the conference has on both of these programs especially when you look at competition at freshman and junior varsity levels. Objectively speaking, the size disparity between the members of the big school division effectively puts a cap on the development of non-varsity players at the larger schools.

When you say "I don't know of anyone of great significance as out for Elkhart"....they had 20 players out with injuries (many of the season-ending variety), including arguably their three best players. They are significantly depleted. However, you are correct saying there really wasn't a phase of the game that Elkhart played well that night

  10. As much as I enjoy the shots at South Bend politics and school board, let's see if we can get this back on the rails.

The NIC "East-West Division" (i.e., Big Boy Football)...should have another interesting race.

Marian has to replace the QB, but has plenty of experience at the skill positions. Only one starter returns on the offensive line, but injuries caused many of those reserves to get experience during the regular season. I would look for the Knights to be togh again.

Elkhart lost a ton to graduation, but they have the league's best receiver in Donovan Johnson and a speedy running back in Jaiven Sharp. They lost one of the DC's and the OC, so we'll see how that changes things. I think they'll still be pretty good.

Will Penn be better without Powlus at QB, since the offense seemed to centered around him? Alec Hardrict is legit speedster in the backfield and a lot of experience returns on defense.

Will Casey McKim's second year result in the Cougars going back to the option? It's the most experienced offensive line coming back and some young, exciting backs. The Cougars could be ready to make a run at the conference crown.

Adams is another team with most of the o-line returning, some good skill people back and about half of the defensive starters back.

Older history would tell you St. Joe belongs in this division, more recent would say they should go the North-South. Bryon Whitten has to replace his QB, O-Line and D-Line and play everyone mentioned above. Good Luck.

As for the North-South, Bremen has 4/5 of it'[s o-line back, an experienced QB in Ethan Nunemaker and about half the defense back. If the Lions can find a solid running back, they should be a force to be reckoned with.

Cory Stoner at Jimntown has the division's most electric player in Johntu Reed, but he has to find an O-line and patch some holes at linebacker.

John Glenn returns 19 of 22 starters. A healthy Nathan Creed at QB had the Falcons playing well before he was hurt against Bremen. It could be a banner year in Walkerton if he returns to form.

Todd Stammich had a prtty young team at Washington last season and they made strides at the end of the season. The defensive line is the biggest question mark that has to be answered.

Justin Kinzie's Riley team had problems scoring points last year, so the offense has been the focus of the off-season. You wonder if things might change a little bit in terms of the system they run on the South Side.

And then there's Clay, which at least got a win last year. They haven't had two in a year since 2014. We'll see if that's possible.
