  1. Hey Donnie—. Welcome back!   I’ll take a shot at this.

Seeger - Defending conf. champ and lost a very good RB.   I believe they’ll be very good again this year and  possibly repeat at Conf champs

Covington - new coach again this year with limited talent and a poor JH program to feed it.  You are correct about Coach Brown.  He got it done.  Unfortunately, it won’t be this year for the Trojans

FC - Herb is herb.   The man can coach and if a play is working, he’s running it 475 times in a game until it’s stopped.  The older Acton will lead this group but will it be from QB or RB.  Do they have the OL to protect him?

Attica - I don’t know enough about this group to make a call.

SV - When do the sectionals start?  That’s when I care about SV.   They have to break through soon, right?  The gold and black visors will have talent and battle for the conf championship.   Circle your calendars for the late season game vs Seeger.

NV - As long as Crabtree is there, they’ll be strong.   They return their QB, who is a threat.   Although their biggest loss may be on the coaching staff.  Coach Blank is/was a talented football coach

RP - All anyone asks about RP is how they replace their all-state RB.  I’ve headed they changed the offense to 4 and 5 wide.  Or maybe not.  Time will tell how they will be with opening week games against 3A Pike Central and @ #6 Carrol (Flora) in week 2.

PH - Coach Rector might be nicest man alive.  Truly, a great person and a team looking to climb another step back in the post-Moore era.   They return several players from a forgettable season last year.   We won’t know who they are until after their week 1 home game Vs Linton.   Week 2 will tell us a lot about PH in their game against West Vigo.

The only bright side is I don’t have to watch @KAllen ‘s bald head streaking around the town square since he’s getting bottle service in Vegas surrounded by lingerie models. #rockstar

I only mentioned the score from last night because you keep bringing up some 8th grade game. I don’t think a group of teenagers needs revenge taken out on them by an adult over something that happened before they had pubes. I swear to God I don’t

Completely agree.  As it pertains to the RP JH, they are a solid group.   It could be argued that the B team (7th grade) has played as much as the A team in many games to avoid being disrespectful or getting kids hurt.  We aren’t other JH teams in the conference that refuse a running clock or call timeouts up 35+ just to get the ball back.   That’s bush league shit.   In fact, in a game vs SV Thursday, RP was winning 26-0 with 1 min to go in the half. SV drops a bad punt on the field.  RP’s next play is a TD pass (first forward pass of the season for their team) to make it 36-0.  Running clock is official in play and B team goes in and no more timeouts called.   What’s amazing is the opposing coach, facetiously yelling from the opposite sideline about how classy the coaches from RP were, yet said same coach forgot he’s the one who called timeouts two years ago in a game to make sure his team could score 50 in a game that was far from being close.   Like you said, the issue isn’t kids, it’s overzealous coaches padding stats.   Ill continue to agree with Coach Crabtree - anything goes until there’s a 35 point lead and then BOTH teams take steps to keep the game respectable.

Again, there’s no revenge to be had, only a group of kids that refuse to be someone’s doormat or homecoming every week in high school, which we all know RP was and has been for many years.

  4. 9 minutes ago, Donnie Baker said:

But what about the 8th graders?

Same.  It was 24-0 four minutes into the game and the B team (7th grade) played 2.5 quarters of the game with a running clock.   I don’t care if it’s varsity, JV or junior high, if a running clock is accepted, timeouts aren’t being called,  no passes are being thrown and all the backups are in, there not much more a team can do to avoid scoring other than teaching the opposing team how to tackle or not fumble or throw interceptions.

The irony in this conversation topic is that you aren’t the first to questions RPs scores this year at multiple grade levels. But I don’t recall anyone having a level of concern for some of the TR teams, RP teams or even the last Rox team and current PH teams or FC teams the last few years.   There’s some level of empathy, I’m sure.   But ZERO sympathy.   It’s 1A football.  The regret is that Coach Good, who I’m friends with and took a great career move, didn’t stick around to take a few of these L’s

You groin eaters have anything to say about the RP score over Attica or do you just bitch about the FC 8th grade team? I gotta go

Nah, Coach.   There’s no short term memory problems at RP.   I believe the RP staff kept receipts for every score against them over the last 15 years.   No team should have issues with RP scoring a few points on them.   Its just unfortunate that multiple coaches in this conference peace out before it’s their turn to take it.
Kuddos to Coach Sanders for staying the course and being patient enough to see some success.   He was apart of many games in which Herb, Crabtree, Good, Moore, Barrett, etc we’re dropping 60+ on his squads.
But, with that said, the JV played half the 2nd quarter and entire running clock in the second half.

  6. North Vermillion @ Rockville- NV in a shutout unless Coach Rector dials up the Billy Bettis playbook and sling the ball around 50-60 times tonight    Otherwise, it’s a running clock.  The Rox finish the season with NV, RP and FC - three very physical teams.   NV 45 Rox 6

Riverton Parke @ Attica-  My sources tell me that the RP coaches deleted the SV film from Hudl and moved on   From JH to Varsity, Attica’s skilled kids and horses are nonexistent compared to the Ryan Good teams   Panthers get healthy this week give the Rox the choice between SV film and Attica to scout for next week  RP 42-6

Seeger @ Covington-  Seeger wins in another WRC blowout this week   Having the chance to watch Covington last week, they do throw the ball with much more effectiveness than they run   I don’t see how this happens vs Seeger’s DL    Seeger 35 - 13

South Vermillion @ Fountain Central-  SV was bigger, strong and faster than RP at every level last weekend, plus their number’s are strong.  I don’t see how FC hangs around in this game.  Herb may have to get back to a JH game a refuse a running clock before his next win in a couple weeks.    SV in a route.  I can hear the SV fans chanting in unison from across the Wabash River, “We want Linton!!” “We want Linton!!”

Probably the funniest post ever! I swear to God it is.

Agreed.  Any post that starts with “the xxxx team is the best ever” always has recency bias.    I don’t even know how good the 1983 Mustangs team was, but if the Ultimate Warrior is lining up on the field, I’ll take them.  😃😃.   (I also heard he played in the Terre Haute youth league)

  8. Attica @ NV - Back-to-back losses for the Falcons equals bad news for the Ramblers.  The Ramblers have only scored 25 points all year.  Running clock.  54-6

Covington @ Rockville - The flying jets sweeps simply don’t have enough offense to keep up with the Trojans.  Covington 42-12 in a game I may go watch, sit beside Billy Bettis and take notes.

FC @ Seeger - I don’t see how this one is close at all.  Seeger’s horses up front on the DL aren’t going to allow FC to run their QB lead and counter as they want. Seeger wins big at home in Herb’s reunion tour stop.  52-14

RP @ SV - tenderloins vs visors.  The Panthers are coming off of a big homecoming win over NV without their starting QB.  A three game stretch of Seeger, NV and SV ends this week, followed by Attica, PH and Covington.  Panthers take this in a close one 22-21  with Coach WRC123 watching from the endzone.

  9. Covington @ Wildcats - D1’s and visors by 20+.  The SV vs Seeger game in a couple weeks will be a must-watch.

FC @ Attica - There might be 35 total players between both teams   If this is anything like Herbie’s junior high team, they’ll refuse the running clock and use timeouts to score more.  Mustangs by 50

NV@RP - Panthers in a slugfest  34-30. Rumor is there will be some Rockville fans coming to the game taking notes on the double wing offense

Rox @ Seeger - Seeger is starting to figure out who they are and using both backs well   After this game, you may see Bettis and Batty wearing their Rox letter jackets on the sidelines until week 4 of next year

I figured since I’m not coaching anymore and the legend himself Kevin Allen was on here, I couldn’t let him be the sole representation of Parke County.  Looking forward to talking football!

    FC over Covington 35-21

    PH over Attica 28-7

    Seeger over RP 35-34

    NV over SV 41-35 2OT

NV over SV.  - The sun sets on the visor tonight.   Falcons in a close one.

FC over Covington - Herb’s boys play hard and he’s got a couple kids that can go

RP over Seeger - call me a homer, I don’t care. I own it

Rockville over Attica for their only win of the season.  First one-win season since the pre-consolidation Moore era in which TR and Rox only won one game each.

Good luck to all teams and stay healthy!

Well it Friday so time for my picks.
Crabtrees and the Falcon will shred the (small) Trojans

Seegers by as much as they want.
    South Vermilions in another blowout.

Im taking Riverton Parkes in the closest game of the night but the Ponies might surprise everyone.
    I gotta go

The RP/FC game was hard fought between the two teams.  Both teams played hard and a late score by RP sealed the game.   I can confirm that up 6 with 3:00 to go and the ball, RP did have their starters in the game.

Who covers?  by saying neither covers, does that mean you are taking the underdog?

I would assume he means neither covers the O/U you set (58 and 63).

SP @ PH:  it’s not 2020 and the teams are completely different.   It’s hard to bet against the state-champs-or-bust Wolves, but I believe Coach Sage gave South Put enough bulletin board material to work with.   Throw in a couple rain drops and a few roster changes and I’m going with the Big Dog’s boys.  SP 35 PH 21

Covington @ RP:   Upset of the year. RP 30 Cov 28.  Yes, I’m a homer, but who doesn’t want to see a Chuck Sorrel vs Brad Sanders bench press competition at midfield — rematch, circa Franklin college 1998?

Hopefully, you are just trying to be a part of the gimmick in this thread.  Do you honestly believe they have a chance at a ring?

No, I don’t.  And no gimmicks here.  PH, at best, wins the sectional and faces a very tough opponent in the regional and starts basketball season the following Monday.

  14. I took the plunge and donated.  Here goes the predictions…

PH Grizzlies @ Attica:   This will get ugly early.  It’s state champs or bust for the Wolves. On to round 2…

NV @ SP:   SP 42 NV 28 Game of the week.  Can the Big Dog’s boys respond from last week’s shellacking’ by Linton?  I say the do.  NV finishes 5-5 on the year

FC @ Covington:  Covington 50 FC 20  Too much offense for the Mustang’s to handle. FC finishes 3-7

RP @ Cloverdale:  RP 55 Cloverdale 12.  RP gets their first sectional win since the 15/16 season

Speedway @ Seeger:  Speedway 35 Seeger 20 The cities boys from the west side come to Williamsport and handle business.  Patriots end the year 5-5

SV @ LCC: LCC 35 SV 21.     D1’s finish a surprising 4-6.  And there’s no more complaining about Catholic schools recruiting, right?

  15. Attica vs SV.    SV 60 Attica 6 D1’s flex their D1 muscle in their tune up before facing Lafayette Central Catholic in two weeks

Covington vs RP - RP 24 Cov 20. This game will be a rematch in two weeks.   Coach Brown plays it safe and preps for the sectionals.

FC vs PH -   PH 52 FC 14.  Moore on this game later

Seeger vs NV - Game of the week.  Falcons  30 Seeger 21.

    4. Coach Brown won’t be returning as coach at Covington, making the job very attractive for a coach to get a stud QB as a senior  (Source: Billie Creek village parking attendant)

    5. Hot seat watch for Barrett at SV.   The shine is fading (Source: SV class of 1996 alumni during conversation in Bridgeton)

    6. Montezuma cruelers donuts are better than the Rockville cruelers, even when a PH coach is cooking at the Montezuma shack.   Kuddos

    7. All eyes on the South Put/Linton game this Friday.   (Source: anyone who follows the sectional and wants to see a SP-PH rematch from 2020)

  16. Upset alert - Seeger 18 SV 6.  Down 12-6 with the ball and 3:14 to play, the D1’s throw a pick 6.  I’ll stand corrected on my assumption the wheels were coming off of Seeger.   Kuddos to that staff for pulling it together and getting what appears to be a nice win.

There are no scenarios, Coach.  It’s not real.   (And I’m a homer)

But if it was real, I don’t see any scenario based on coaching, recruiting, opponents, playoff schedule, weather and fan base that PH isn’t a 30 point favorite in every game all the way to the state finals.   State finals or bust, per the bookies, of course.    Go Grizzlies!
