  1. A bad day for the Mitchell Football program yesterday. Coach Kling is stepping down to take an assistant principal job in his home town of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. His father's health is a concern, and he needed to get back home to assistant his family.

Really appreciate everything Coach was trying to do here. He was very invovled in the youth program. He put in countless hours in the weight room with not just the HS kids, but with our JH kids as well. Top to bottom, he did things the right way. Losing his son Jackson really, really hurts. The kid is just special.

Not sure what is next. Skill position pieces have a ton of potential, but we are very thin and weak on the line. Current Freshman class is strong. Not sure on the JH outlook. I know the youth seems to be interested in football.

Mitchell at Scottsburg (Look for this to be competitive. Varsity has won two in a row. JV has won three in a row. Once again, Kling has gotten these guys better throughout the season. First few weeks were tough to watch. Took a couple weeks for us things out after we lost Turner to injury. Hoping we can continue to build.)

    Silver Creek at North Harrison

    Paoli at Crawford County

    West Washington at Clarksville

  6. Impressed with my Jackets Friday

After being down 27-8 at half, Kling and his staff did a great job making adjustments. We stuffed their run game for the entire 3rd Q. In the 4th, the Mustangs finally got back to their run game, and converted on a key 4th down on the way to a score when the Jackets had it to 27-20. I believe the final was 41-27. Youth shined through. I felt like Jackson Kling was in  every play defensively at LB, and Malaki Goodman showed off his athletic ability on both sides of the ball, both freshman. SO RB Gavin Robinson was lighting in a bottle, with two 40+ yd TDs swinging out of the backfield.

I felt Edgewood played to "not lose" the game in the 2nd half, but finally spread the it out in the 4th, and we ran out of gas.

We have the potential, but we're only going as far as our line will take us. HUGE test for them against Valley Friday. IF we can figure something out on both sides, then I expect a shootout.

I wasn't sure how long this rebuild would take, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if we ended up with 3-4+ wins this year.

  7. Thoughts on my Bluejackets after Friday's scrimmage with BNL...

O Line is a work in progress. We have two starters that will not be ready to go until week 2. Turner is solid at QB. If we can keep him upright, he'll put up some huge numbers this year. RB is Gavin Robinson, who is a really good athlete. Only problem is that he quit in the month of July, then came back out last week. We played him JV in scrimmage and he dominated. Do we throw him in the fire Friday night or give him a game or two to "earn it?" WRs are a bright spot. Kale England and Lucas Gosnell are matchup nightmares with their size. Wigley and Luman bring in some speed.

Bottom line, nothing matters if we can't figure out the line.

Defensively, we are very young. We have 2 freshman starting in Kling and Mullis, but I wouldn't be shcoked if we had 4-5 freshman starting by the end of the year. Physically, they are ready, but this will be a learning process. BNL looked very good offensively, but it was just a scrimmage.

Another concern I have is depth. Coach Kling has done a great job of building numbers back up,but I'll be curious to see what we look like down the stretch in the 2nd half this Friday.

I was impressed with how we got better throughout the year last season, and hope that will continue. Once this freshman class gets their feet wet, Coach Kling will make a jump with this program. Hopefully it's sooner, rather than later.

I thought Mitchell was the most improved team in the conference from the start of the season to the finish and once they settled in on Ethan Turned at QB, it made all the difference. Along with Turner, looks like they bring back Kale England at FB, Lumen Ashton at RB and Seth Fountain on the OL, all of who will be seniors. Defensively they bring back Wigley Kyzen at Safety, AJ Sarver at CB, England at LB, Lumen at CB, Turner at S, again all of these are seniors too. All together they had 14 juniors last year so I even though those freshmen are talented and I expect to see some of them in skill positions, they should have several experienced kids on the field. I kinda expect to see Mitchell finish the season with a winning record this upcoming year.

Biggest question for the Jackets is the line on both sides of the ball. Return almost everything in the skill positions. Ethan Turner is the guy for the full offseason, excited to see him throw it around in the fall.

Kids continued to fight and get better throughout the year. Give Kling credit, plus he is also doing a great job with working with the JH kids. I think you'll see a slight increase in the win total each year, and the incoming freshmen class group will be "the year" for us when they are seniors.  This season's W total just hinges on a lot of questions on the Line.

All right guys....here's the winning picks. I did the research, talked to the coaches, evaluated the rosters, and read DTs interviews. No stopping me this week

North Posey at Paoli- After running the flex all season Paoli comes out 5 wide and refuses to run the ball. Forcing North Posey to do the same. Its a firework show. Big 12 would be proud. Not a single run happens in this game and the rams pull it out in OT 70-69.

Providence at West Washington- All 3 of Providence seniors are scared to death. They've never seen a grass field. They are scared to step on it. After Coach Lowery leaves the hose on all night Thursday only 1 team can handle it. WW leads 70-0 and only the final play JR QB Kenton Chase takes the ball and kicks in backwards in celebration giving Providence a safety. Final Score WW wins 70-2.

East Central at Silver Creek- East Central comes in the favorite and plays like it. They literally leave the varsity behind and let the JV play. They didn't wanna risk an injury but the problem is Silver Creek started basketball prep. Neither team wants it. Silver Creek accidently makes a 63 yd FG. Wins 3-0.

Corydon at Southridge- After Corydon coaches watched the film they had a defensive revolution.....youre allowed to play 11 guys. They let 23 yr old senior LB Frank Smith play for first time and he completes the defense. Southridge can't handle it. He finishes with 20 tackles, 8 for loss, 4 sacks, 2 FF and 2 INTs returned for Tuddys. Corydon wins 14-0.

Heritage Hills at Charlestown- Last year Charlestown sent an OL to Kentucky to battle in the SEC. Little did everyone know they stole his DNA and the clones are complete Wednesday. After a day of practice the new OL is ready and they run QB sneak all game. HH gets 3 possessions all game but on final play Charlestown gets the score and the 2 pt conversion. Charlestown wins 22-21.

Triton Central at Brownstown- Reed May has been a legend. This night he adds to it. After all week in the lab studying film he comes up with ultimate game plan. He pays the refs. Triton Central racks up 230 yds of offense but 290 penalty yds on 31 accepted penalties. Luckily it's at Brownstown so the only Victim is the Triton Central bus on the way back that the players destroy. Brownstown wins 24-20.

There it is. Clean sweep for our conferences. Appreciate the fun as always as alot may disappear for offseason. Ill be here attempting to keep up with the rumors and news. Be safe friday!!

I'd love to continue into basketball, but that might be a lot of work for someone. 😂

  10. Mitchell at Paoli

    Tell City at Crawford County

    Perry Central at Mater Dei

    Springs Valley at Providence

    West Washington at Eastern Greene

    Silver Creek at Jennings County

    Scottsburg at Corydon

    North Harrison at Southridge

    Charlestown at Salem

    Brownstown at Brown County

    Clarksville at Eastern Pekin

  11. Crawford County at Paoli

    Perry Central at West Washington

Scottsburg at Mitchell (I feel very guilty making this pick, but we've been bitten by the injury bug Friday night, as well as the JV game last night. Hoping I'm wrong!)

    Springs Valley at Tecumseh

    Brownstown at Indian Creek

    Corydon at Charlestown

    North Harrison at Silver Creek

    Salem at Eastern Pekin

Drove by Mitchell other day. Field looks great. Turf is amazing. What's the cost? Daughter has a piggy bank with WW name written on it. 😂

A LOT! Not sure what it is exactly. I just know we had $17+ million that had to be spent through a bond/grant or we lost it, but that's for everything. Whole town is shut down for the game tomorrow night! Schoolboard grilling out before the game and fireworks after the game. I just hope we see some during the game. 🤣

I want to see it. Loved the mocks of the field house, as well.

Fieldhouse moving a long as well. Should have a roof over the weight room and wrestling room in a couple weeks I believe.
