My apologies on the position mistake. Would totally echo this for Lawrence County as a whole. Serious changes need to be made. Don't think this new "transfer portal" rule from the IHSAA starting June 1st is going to help either. Think you're a superstar? They end up at Bloomington South (Basketball and football have been hurt by this the last 3 years at BNL). Want to be a big fish in a small pond depending on the sport? Go to Mitchell, Shoals, Orleans, etc. Will be interesting who and when this hire is made. With girls basketball wrapped up at BNL, one would assume this is this at the top of the to-do list.

Last Thursday's board meeting ended with a "no candidate to vote on at this time." The talk around the county is that it will be Eastern Greene OC Brayden Tidd, who is a Bedford guy. A lot of current assistants are growing frustrated, starting to interview at other places for new coaching opportunities because they feel they aren't getting a fair shot. Time will tell.

Just heard that this guy is out now? Something to do with a background check? I'll just shut up and we'll see what happens at the board meeting tomorrow. haha

Pending board approval, BNL will hire Calvin Burnett Jr. A former Indiana Wesleyan assistant, who has spent time at Trader's Point supposedly??? Not sure on the timetable for those stops, but his social media shows a lot of IWU posts this past season. Welcome to Lawrence County, Coach!

BNL Update: The coach from Texas (Steven Stanley from Liberty Christian HS) has officially turned it down. BNL offered, he said he needed more money, BNL got it to his asking price, but then he ended up turning it down after all. Disappointing. The rumor is that it is down to two local candidates, and at least one of the two has been brought back in for a 2nd interview this week. I know girls basketball interviews are taking place this week as well, so not sure on the timetable. I do not envy first year AD Adam Yates this week. A lot on his plate to say the least!

What I'm hearing on Bedford: It's between 3 in house/local guys, and a coach from Texas. Guy from Texas is interviewing this week. It's my understanding his wife just took a job locally. As far as teaching, the only real hope is that the strength coach retires, which gives this guy from Texas an opportunity for a teaching job. Outside of that, don't think there will be any thing open at the HS. With Jeff Hein leaving for Mitchell AD, not sure what they will do with his classes. I think he was business and maybe study hall??? Could be wrong on that, but I do know the HS lost 5 teachers last year and did not fill the positions. With the dropping enrollment numbers, I think they are trying to slowly trim down the staff at the HS. Should know more in a week or two.
